ain't it the truth

Brilliant Post Beav! so much truth to what you wrote, man i cant wait to hear "sour grapes" take on this, more jibberish i am sure but on a friday night with a glass of French Red , it will be worth the wait! :p

if owners like the Royals or other bottom feeders would INVEST the $$$ that KING GEORGE gives them, then baseball would be more competitive all around, (save the crap sox fans that the Empire would just spend more, cause if they did then the same "said" royals and others would be getting more as well) ...it all comes down to who cares about the fans the most and who cares about their bank accounts, in the case of the Yankees, and the Steinbrenners, they actually care about both! , but too many owners dont give a CRAP about their fans.... guess thats the ugly business side of the game, o well.... Merlot? your take please?

You bring up a valid point. There are a lot of teams in MLB that could spend more, but they choose not to. The Yankees spend more than other teams, and not just on payroll but also on scouting and player development and facilities, because Steinbrenner has ALWAYS been committed to putting his profits back into his team. He wants to win, and he has never cared more about putting money into his various other businesses than winning, unlike some other owners who have been accused of using luxury tax payments to defer losses or expenses in their other, non baseball businesses. This is the disgusting other side of the coin that you never hear about in the media because IT DOES NOT SELL COPY. But the truth is that if those same owners gave a crap about the alleged inequity in the system, they would do something about it. They don't, because under the system they are guaranteed money and rewarded despite not using all resources to win like the Yankees do.

jman,

There is ZERO chance of the Yankees ever signing Manny Ramirez because they are looking to sign high integrity, high talent type guys who will not be disruptive clubhouse influences. The team is no longer being run by George Steinbrenner who often made impulsive signings. The team is being run by a consortium of very smart people including Cashman, Levine, Newman and Hal Steinbrenner and they value players who have high character and high talent - guys like Sabathia and Teixera. Manny Ramirez is a player of significant talent but this year he showed signs of a decline which may be swift, and he is not good defensively. He will back in the AL as a DH within 2 years, but not for the Yankees.

A Rod has only been a distraction off the field, and after he came back this year he was not a distraction. He has never been viewed as a clubhouse cancer on any team he played for, nor have Swisher or Damon. Swisher and Damon are free spirited type guys, but they are great teammates and have never been viewed as clubhouse cancers.

Anyway, let's get back to the subject of this thread.

I heard that the Yankees may not resign either Damon or Matsui and may be going after

Drum roll please................................................................................

http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/article/2009-11-06/matt-holliday-expected-reach-open-market

Now wouldn't that be a heist, also look for the Yankees to sign Lackey who is a George Steinbrenner type of player, a very tough intense player who is also a very good pitcher, let the raiding begin:D.

PS- Great thread SK, now why didn't I think of starting something like this.

Anybody seen my friend Nim(AKA Merlot) lately?, I think that the poor fella is taking this Yankee World Series win too hard.

By the way Nim is short for Nimrod:D.
