Wrong, Korbie. The Dow was down about 400. When time ran out on the bill and it appeared that it wouldn't pass, the Dow plunged 300 points in 10 minutes. It "rebounded" to where it is now pretty quickly.

free market bullshit!

Korbel said:
As I look at CNN and the stock indicator. The failure to pass the bill...so far...has made the Dow go back up. Wall Street does not like this package because it restricts the free market. When the stockbrokers thought this bill might pass it was down over 705 points, now it's only down 450 at the moment.

What "free markets"? Years of deregulation started by the Democrats and accelerated by the Republicans have ensured that these markets are anything but free. They are corrupt and rotten to the core.

If they do not pass something, it will be total mayhem on Wall Street and Main Street.

They don't need any republican votes to pass it.

Roughly:
61 Republican votes for
140 Republicans against

Don't try to blame this on the Dems.

Do the dems not have a majority. If all dems voted for it, it would pass. Do you not know anything about congress?

Mazingerz,

Thank you for providing an English translation of your post. All I'll say is that if we go down, you (Canada and Quebec) go down with us. Who is your biggest trade partner and who buys most of your beef? You should not have too much glee in our misery because it is soon to be yours as well. The problem in our markets will have an effect on markets worldwide. The small business owners looking for loans are not going to be getting them - either in the USA or in Quebec.

All of you guys who don't speak French... The post above this, courtesy of Mazingerez, is just for you. Now you know what you're not missing.

That has to be one of the most unacceptably rude and hateful posts (IMHO) I've ever read... The French version is even worse than the English one.

You know, there are a lot (millions and millions) of hard-working, good people in America who do not deserve the mess their government has made (and allowed to be made) for them.

Stick to French. I need to put that garbage back on the ignore list.

The Americans have that they deserve. Throwing their silver by windows and taking so risks, that's which arrives. I hope their economy goes effrondrer. They like to say in other countries how living but they connot able to managing them own economy. They are the laughing stock of all the world.

In tsarist Russia a visitor to a farming village during a crop failure asked a local farmer how things were going. The farmer replied "Very well, thank you." Surprised by the answer, the visitor asked for an explanation. The farmer replied. "Simple, the neighbour's cow just died."

Eastender -- it's almost the same as the old "cut off your nose to spite your face" expressinon... ridiculous behavior clearly to all but the perpetrator.

Maz,

I think it has EVERYTHING to do what I said, and you have provided zero information to the contrary. I don't take it as a personal attack since I am not an American. Don't you see the paralells?

EB,

You touch on a very important issue. Small business loans. The basic issue is that banks make loans but they do not extend credit (terms of payment, etc).
This is the domain of the manufacturer, importer, distributer. If the banks do not extend such loans then alternative arrangements become the norm.

Presently the Chinese economy is booming. To sustain their level of growth, the Chinese have taken steps to prop-up the American dollar. If they were to dump their American dollar holdings it would do serious harm to their economy and the American economy. One possible scenario is the Chinese manufacturers entering into actual partnerships as opposed to business partnerships with American and Canadian concerns. This has happened in a few cases already at low level niche markets. This would have very serious consequences for the American and Canadian working class and up to and including mid management not only short term but could create a situation that cannot be reversed.

All of you idiots who think this is solely a U.S. problem, get ready for a rude awakening. Did you notice that our Prime Minister took a moment today to say he is ready to help the U.S. during this financial crisis.

He is not doing this out of the goodness of his heart. Calls were placed all over the world today because this thing could lead to a major collapse of the global financial system.

All the more reason go get get laid before the Apocalypse.:p

Very true, the Toronto Stock Exchange was down 900 points. Guess where a lot of Quebec pension funds have their money invested ?

It's hard to understand how isolationists think sometimes - it certainly does not appear that they do so with their heads anyway.

Your shallow views highlight your ignorance and you are insulting French Quebecers and all Quebecers like me. Nelson Mandela is not on any U.S. terrorist list because he opposed the war in Iraq.:rolleyes:

Well...............while the gesture by our prime minister may be appreciated it has about as much impact as a child's contribution of their piggy bank savings.

BTW wouldn't HDH prices drop sharply after the financial Apocalypse?

Canadians coming to the rescue of the U.S. financial system is like us coming to the rescue of Bill Gates.

As for escort rates in Montreal, my prediction is they will follow the stock market down into the abyss.

I wish the Fed can open its discount window to me so I can replenish my coffers and put the money to good use.:D :p
