A lot of you guys are watching in dismay what looks like a horror show with all players over par, but the US Open is actually the one professional golf tournament that does not bullshit the viewer. Many other tournaments are birdie festivals at which the PGA pros can whack their drives 300 yards and spray some golf testosterone all over the fairways and greens. The US Open, however, is the true test of golf. Par means you played perfect. The fairways are narrow, the rough is deep, and you hit it straight or you pay, it's that simple. This is how golf is supposed to be played. You want to show off and hit a 330 yard driver to draw oohs and ahs, go try and do it. It is actually great to watch some of these PGA pros and their oversized egos get beaten up and eaten up by the course. The winner of this tournament will be a true champion of golf.

I find it humorous for the eternal runner-up in the US Open Phil Mickelson (6 times now) to have led this tournament from the start and finish 2nd again. Lol.

Something is missing with Mickelson. He always has chances to make something happen. He had a birdie putt and blew it at 16th. Very makeable putt. He just cannot seem to get over the top at majors. Close but no cigar is the story of his career. He may be lacking in the guts department.

I think Mickelson has left way more majors on the table than what he has won. He should have about 10 majors won based on his level of talent and that is why I feel something is missing with him.

By the ways, the top 3 players in the world were shamed by Merion. Woods 13 over, McIlroy 14 over and Scott 15 over, finishing in the same order as their rankings.

Mickelson might not be able to go all the way in the Open but 6 second place finishes ain't too shabby.
