Web sites pet peeve

Excuse me while I air a pet peeve about most of the Montreal agency websites. Most seem over designed by web designers and graphic artists who never use the websites.

I have computers with big monitors and fast internet connections. Why make the pictures small and force me to only use a fraction of my monitor to navigate? I have to click multiple times to see pictures or mouse over. Just put them on the screen and I can scroll if they don't fit.

There is one website I like that is simple and functional. I'm not going to mention them by name because they seem to have difficulty answering the phone or returning calls these days. Which has resulted in me spending time look at other options for my trip.

Am I alone here in my web site complaints?

Yes!;)

There was an old thread that complained that an agency web designer "screwed up" because the pics didn't fit on the screen and the user had to scroll around to see everything. Are you that troubled when an extra click is necessary? We can't all have big monitors & fast internet connections like you...

-------------

This isn't directed specifically at you, stripley, but after seeing so many recent threads criticizing agencies for EVERYTHING they do, it seems that too many member have too much time on their hands and/or need to get laid!

Regards, and Party On! (Happy Canada Day & Independence Day):D

Hello Stripley,

Nope, it's annoying. But, I live with it.

Cheers,

If only I knew...
Agreed! Over-designed and way too much fluff. Now if owners can finally learn to stop paying web designers. I'm certain owners can find something to do with the extra money they'll save!

Nope. I agree that many agencies' web sites suck.

Specific complaint: they use "flash" programming, which makes it impossible to resize the pages and pictures to my monitor.

Even worse are the sites which use black background and white (or gray!) text with flash programming and small fonts (I run at high resolution). This makes it almost impossible to read on my monitor, which usually results in me immediately moving to another site.

To the owners: There is seldom any reason to use flash. Good websites are supposed to be designed to be easily viewed on all kinds of different monitor sizes and resolutions. Get new web designers!

Right Kepler,

Keep it simple. DON'T put users in a situation where they have to add software to their computers to use your website. Pictures are critical. Maek them easily viewable and at a size worth seeing.

Cheers,

Visit site
I will also suggest that they do not add music to the sites. I find it annoying, and some of us want to view the page without attracting the attention of others around us. I know that I can turn off the sound on my computer, and usually there is a switch on the page, but usually the music is playing before I know that I need to turn it off.

Absolutely. Sometimes I listen to music on the computer, leave the volume on a loud setting and forget to put the mute back on. Later I visit a website with music late in the evening and it's is blasting sound before I have a chance to reach for the speakers.

Huge peeve.
