When the going gets tough the tough get going. But when the going gets tough for the Habs and the Leafs they both lose. Not exactly a surprise. Now even the Islanders have a chance - 2 games left, Philly and Jersey. Jersey will probably keep the Landers out but you never know.

Come on JC, show some chutzpah and for once make a bold prediction. I promise I'm not going to hold it against you if you pick the wrong team. :D

In Mtl's favor... they have far better goaltending. (With Raycroft in the Toronto nets, Mtl would have far better goaltending even if my grandmother replaced Halak and Huet.)

I can't believe I'm actually in agreement with you on this one even though I don't know your grandmother, albeit it's equally applicable if you put in any grandmother who can move. :D

This is getting scary Pablo - I also agree with you on something: namely that the Habs will remain Canada's team no matter what happens on Saturday. The alternative (Leafs) is too dreadful to contemplate. (I could live with Calgary, Ottawa, or Edmonton - even Vancouver - but not the freakin Leafs!)

A smart gambler only bets when the odds are in his favor so I avoid predictions unless I'm really really confident. Thus, I do predict that the Leafs and the Habs will not win another Cup in our lifetime...but nothing would surprise me whichever team gets the final playoff spot this year because each of the 3 possibilities has some things in its favor and some against.

I'd say that the Landers are the long shot because although they have a game in hand, and although one of their opponents is Philly, the other is Jersey and that's a tough row to hoe...unless the Devils rest some key players and we don't know that yet.

For all the reasons I said in earlier posts, I think Habs-Leafs is a total toss-up. I hope the Habs win because even though they're certainly not my team, they're far preferable to the odious Leafs.

In TO's favor: home game - both these "teams" are far better at home than on the road.
True for the Habs (Home: 26-12, Away: 16-20); False for the Leafs (Home: 20-15, Away: 19-16) - Other than that I agree with your analysis.

The Laffs lost 5-2 - the Habs will get at least get 1 point on Saturday and take 8th place, while the Maple Loafs will hit the golf course :D
But the Habs 16-20-3 road record is a matter of concern and, frankly, the perspective of Huet returning in nets for such a critical game after being away for so long adds to the concern. With Halak in nets Saturday, Habs stand a good chance though with Huet, I'm not as confident.

Toronto is 8-0 in their last 8 games at home.
Habs's record is 5-15 since 1999 in Toronto.

Lets just say that the odds aren't in the Habs favor.

Your results (8-0) are tainted.

The real results are 5 wins and 3 ties

Were there not any ties since 1999 ?

Congradulation to the leafs(notice I didn't say Laughs) and to Doc Holliday who must be living on a cloud right now.
Enjoy it while it lasts Doc.I admit that if the Leafs play Aubain insted of Raycroft they might have a chance against Buffalo.
That is if Islanders loose tommorow.A huge IF!

The Habs were pathetic, like they have been most of the season,at leats since Dec.23.

Yeah, Carbo should have gone back with Halak. If it werent for Halak, the Habs wouldnt have been in a position to win Saturday and make 8th spot, so he deserved another chance after a bad game.

If it werent for the flu bug earlier in the year, Montreal would be a lock for the playoffs, and probably would have advanced at least as far as the conference finals.

Spoken like a true Habs fan. :p Every team has an excuse. The Leafs have actually lost more man-games to injury than any other team in the league this year including some of their better players like Sundin, Tucker, Peca, Kaberle. So you can't blame them not being in the play-offs on the flu. Simply put neither team was good enough.

Exactly! It wasn't flu or injuries that kept either of these duds out of the playoffs, it was lack of talent. Good riddance to both of them.

I had a great time this weekend listening to RDS & reading local papers. I've never heard so much negative crap about the Habs in years!! I'm actually very surprised that they didn't force Gainey, Carbonneau & Koivu to carry large crosses along Ste-Catherines street yesterday, and get them to walk all the way down to the Bell Center for their cruxifiction. The stuff people were saying about their beloved Glorias....simply awful!!

p.s. Am i the only one who noticed Bill Gillette (team owner) standing on his feet & applauding the Leafs after their victory on Saturday night? When the camera zoomed in on him, i said "what the f****???"

Yes Doc you were probably the only one who saw "Bill Gillette", since the Habs' owner is George Gillett Jr.

Luckily Laurence Olivier is dead (like the playoff dreams of Montreal and Toronto). Yes it was a great movie.
