Edit: Oct 2022 - DMM has really dropped in quality. Do not go.

Deliceaux Mei Mei on 1023 St Laurent in Chinatown is an old-time chinese place that has brilliant BBQ. Their duck and crispy roast pork is superb and great value. Get yourself a half duck with some rice and you'll be a happy man. Probably one of the best in North America.

Dobe and Andy, about 5 minutes away, is pretty good too but value @ Deliceaux is better. Keung Kee is also good if you're bringing out your family and want to get a few dishes.

Mama Bangkok, on the second level of 1616 St Catherine, is the most authentic Thai food I've had in Montreal. Give it a shot!

Anyone on merb ever try Bar Ganadara?

It's a popular bar on st.catherine that serves Korean food & drinks. They're located near Moose Bar if you know where that is.

They also got a huge terrasse and the place is packed every day. Lots of Asian hotties go there too.

I honestly can't think of another downtown bar that has many Asian women go there.

I've been thinking of checking it out. Plus I love korean food!

I've never tried it but I heard good comments about it.
And I do like Mama Bangkok. One of the best pad thai in the city.

Yes, it's ok. The food and service isn't great, but it's a decent place to get a drink.

I actually went there with an SP who wanted to check it out. Actually, that entire street are places SPs took me to lol. Ganadara, Seoul Chako, Kampai Gardens, and a couple other places on that block...

None of them are that good for food. It's mostly for early 20s kids to get drunk and hang out at.

Kampai Gardens definitely have a lot of Asians. .. Probably the best spot for hot asian girls

It used to be a great place to pick up strippers since they used to stay open 'til 4:00 4:30 am! Lots of memories from that place, now the only pick up I do overthere is for the food, which is still good. Lobster, cantoneese or ginger, is a feast.

Kiyomi in Lasalle is pretty good, but overpriced… It’s ok once in a while to feel “fancy”

why does restaurant named restaurant bejing, basically have a regular Chinese menu as opposed to running Bejing food as one should think.

This is one reason i never checked this place out. but based on the mentions to this thread i did.

i really did want to ask that to the woman at their front desk, perhaps next time. Tried several dishes, one test was their General Tso.

thanks, I never tried DMM, as I usually hit keung kee and restuarant Ethan just to its right (not for bbq tho) will keep it in mind. i did step inside and it looked busy and dingy. nice roasted pig.

i had to pick from DMM or bejing to taste test and i went with bejing first. was goning to try among other things, Bejings peking duck but they told me there is a duck shortage due to flu. later i assumed she was trying to tell me its this breed, as we can see other places clearly window hanging regular bbq ducks.

Why? Because that's what the market wants. I guess there're more tourists than actual Beijing citizens in Chinatown so they're catering to the crowd.

I was told by a Beijing native that Aunt Dai (not Chinatown though) serves very authentic Beijing cuisine. Next on my list ...

The reason I couldn't let that thought fly of my own is because this restaurant did not just open. If it did, it can possibly be explained that way as you presently suggest.
And I didnt fully spot check but there's probably not a single Bejing item.

For instance the first 'regional' Chinese cuisine to pan out in lets say North America would be Sichuan and if a Chinese restaurant of this kind would open back in the day, it would name itself whatever, but on the menu it would have the regional section but also have the Cantonese platform.

So I just find the Bejing name in this case, rather amusing. Tempted to inquire them.
