Deliceaux Mei Mei on 1023 St Laurent in Chinatown is an old-time chinese place that has brilliant BBQ. Their duck and crispy roast pork is superb and great value. Get yourself a half duck with some rice and you'll be a happy man. Probably one of the best in North America.

recently gave DMM a try... via Fantuan app.

Ordered "1 lb BBQ ribs" their photo showed some ribs (with rib bones, we all know, the kind that hangs from a hook by the window).

Here's what they sold me (PIC) Are you kidding me. There are no 4-5 inch long rib bones even chopped into cubes. This was some knob of pork dried a FCUK sold to me as ribs GTF out of here. $12 down the tube.

Oh by wait..... there's more.... 'two items' rice. So I chose some duck and roast pork. I get some dried out tough(see the pattern here?) leg section (where's the sexy ribcage section)

roast pork was unremarkable. $13.

and to test them out I ordered a General Tso... Insipid...

Likely the worst general tso I have had the displeasure of testing out in a decade. Probably on par with GT from a out of the woods Chinese takeout that makes it for a locality where there is zero Asian cuisine to compete with, yeah it's like that.

Dried out, pre fried, stored few multiple days refried chicken little dice sized pieces of protein so tightly wound, so fibrous, it would stick into my teeth. $14.50 tossed.

Also ordered a beef with broad noodle $16, which is on the higher end for this particular dish. Meh, another waste.

Entire experience, a complete disaster, as TRump would say.

Man, I'm so sorry. I haven't ventured downtown in ages, so it looks like quality has really dropped. Maybe they changed owners?

Dunno. I'll put it this way because when I window shopped by one afternoon in the past (but didnt buy) to scope the business out it looked as okay as any other than the decor inside was worn, patrons were inside dining. The hanging roasted pig looked as good as any, I would say my experience was a disaster, no them necessarily.

Basically I was STIFFED. You know sometimes these places that have the two-three meats plus rice or some type of noodle, they accumulate less desirable pieces across the service day and put them aside. This is where I suspect it got salvaged, to me. Ordering in person can have its merits as you can see and advise what cut you want. That is the case with the duck. That being said I have ordered for delivery from these places before and they do the right thing/treated my order with respect with regards to a multl meat combo. This one was shameful of them. I made a complaint to my delivery service hosting them.

But I'd be hard pressed to think their BBQ duck can be toward the best in North America because there's quite a few places on that scale to contend with in North America.

What I got was not BBQ ribs. That was horrible, got stiffed on that one too. Their general Tso suggested to me no one buys that dish from them and their stock is stale/ no inventory turnover.

My favorite place is Beijing in Chinatown @Skym. I've been going there for the past 15 years. Always delivers!

That's the name of the restaurant? Beijing?
Yes. Been going there myself for a very long time. Ownership may have changed recently, maybe someone can confirm. But, the food is still way better than most.

I have been going to Beijing for many years and they are fantastic. It's usually hard to get a table there and the seating is cramped but as I said earlier they make the best Shrimp with Lobster Sauce I have ever had. They use a little black bean sauce in the sauce and it's AMAZING. The only thing I don't like about it is they serve the dish on iceberg lettuce leaves which tends to soak up some of the sauce. I don't like having to fight with lettuce for the remainder of a delicious sauce LOL.

My favorite dish at Beijing is the XO Chicken. Spicy, and mix in their delicious fried rice and you've got yourself an awesome meal. My second favorite dish is the same as EB. Their shrimp with lobster sauce is pretty amazing. Last thing, try the hot and sour soup, that's really good as well.

Outside of Chinatown

Aunt Dai has pretty authentic Taiwanese.

Kazu for Japanese.

Jako (former Ganadara not the Bar) for Japanese/Korean fusion.

Junior is a nice Filipino restaurant.

Junior is good but expensive.

It feels like every dish there is at least $30 plus tip
