Why Is TBD So Dead?

There used to be a lot of threads on Big Doggie, a lot of debates and back-and-forth. Now it's got next to nothing. So, all right, MERB is good competition what with its special features and everything, but TBD has been around a while and has some advantages of its own. Why is it being left flat on its back?

For my part, I got tired of the moderator and his attitude. I don't mean the fact that you can't say "fuck," etc. -- I can live with that. My problem was the particular guy who had the job of moderating and the way he used it to build his ego. He went out of his way to act like Little Big Man and that drove me off.

Did others have that problem or was other stuff also going on? Given all the ex-TBDers here, I'm hoping to learn something.

Well, this topic is dying the death. I guess TBD is so over no one even wants to talk about it.

My opinion of TBD is that it is really not aimed close enough to the local market to really mean anything to me. If you want to chat about $2000 an hour porn star dates, it's nice. But realistically, a resource has to be VERY tightly focused to keep things moving.

Also, big egos can make for a blowout. Thankfully that has only happened a few gentle times here, and things usually sort themselves back out within a few days.

What can I say? MERB is free, almost non-moderated (except in extreme cases) and the people who are here talk about the girls from here that are actually real and available. We talk SP, MP, incall, outcall, streetwalkers, and SJ... most boards / sites don't handle that range of topics as neatly and simply as this does.

Proof of product is in the TERB board, at a million views a day. That's something.

Okay, that's why a guy who never used TBD isn't using it now. I'm more curious about why people who used it once upon a time have now decided to dump the place. But I guess hobbyists agree with Satchel Page: don't look back.

The real reason that this once-popular board is now dead is because most of the people now posting on it are terribly boring.
The board is boring, period. Where have all the interesting people gone? To MERB, i suppose....or maybe they just got tired of being harrassed by idiots or censored for stupid reasons by the Man with the Giant-Sized Ego.

I would guess that the real reason TBD has changed is that most intelligent hobbyists were shook when last year or so the owners were arrested with some local people in Tampa Fl where the board is based including some local Ladies.
If you followed the case, the authorities confiscated the servers which had everyone's info and if you were a member credit card info, etc.
There ensued a lengthy court case that got hung up with the fact that the authorities threatened local hobbyists to come forward and I believe this case got away as some prominent local people and possibly some politician's would have been exposed if the case went on.
While they "won" this case (I believe the authoirities hit a brick wall and it was finally dismissed due to not filing on time) the reporting in newspapers throughout the US shook many of us awake.
Based on Us laws these computer servers should have only been physically based off US soil to protect everyone.
This is from my memory and I might have some facts wrong but it is the jist of what happened.

TBD bust

The board remained popular and very active even though the owners of the board and several espys were together fighting it out in court against a County Sheriff in Florida. TBD did go dead, however, as soon as MERB showed its face and became more and more popular, quite a while after the TBD accusations were thrown out of court.

What happened in the States with TBD could still potentially happen to both MERB and TERB here in Canada. The TBD owners (and advertisers) got into trouble mostly because of the profits gained through ads by independent espys and some agencies. The authorities wanted the charges to be similar to 'making money from someone else prostituting themselves'. In other words, pimping. As we know, pimping or making money off someone else prostituting themselves is a no-no in Canada's legal system. The last time i checked, which is right now, there were still many visible ads on this board by escort agencies.

What happened in the States two years ago with TBD could happen here also. Let's hope that Murphy's Law doesn't show it's dirty face again.

You make a whole of sense, but by the same token major newspapers and the Yellow Pages could also be shut down. After all, they do make money from SP and agency ads.

Local LE has visited newspapers and suggested they could be charged with living off the avails. Some papers reduced the number of ads, others said they could not be expected to police their ads and would be willing to go to court over it.

I think this had something to do with so many advertisers now being registered companies.

Anyway, this seems to have blown over here.

In Montreal, the JDM and Voir are very good at spotting stuff, and keeping just this side of "living off the avails"... those of you have been around for a while will remember when they use to have exact measurements and such on the girls. That all got wiped out a few years back.

You have to remember that the laws in the US are significantly different than those of Canada.

Go figure...
