It is clear to me that white supremacy was the cause of the imbroglio (it is also the cause of alopecia). We must stamp out racism (and alopecia). I also nominate Will Smith, his wife, Chris Rock and all the other black celebrities in attendance for Emmy awards in 2022.

"This was staged."
You probably think the attack on Jussie Smollett by white supremacists was staged too. And I bet you think that Hilaria Baldwin is not really Spanish either.

#1 Chris Rock’s joke was in poor taste. Ridiculing someone with alopecia who choses to own it and shave her head is just as insensitive as poking fun at a woman with a double mastectomy who has the courage to wear a tank top. Not. Fucking. Cool.

#2 Will Smith has a big time agent. You know, the kind of pro who can conjure up a small army of reps at a moment’s notice to spin an acceptance speech around a PR nightmare. If you wanna acknowledge the fresh prince’s acting chops, credit him for those fake tears as he held his golden statue.

#3 About that little speech… The whole part where he laments “the crazy things love will make you do” sounds exactly like what a wife beater would say. Fuck that. If you can’t keep your emotions in check and lose it that bad, you’re a danger to yourself and others you “love”. Give your balls a tug and get professional help. You need it.

#4 I sincerely hope the Academy take that award back from him. Assaulting a performer on stage in front of millions is the kind of bullshit that will set a very dangerous precedent if it gets glorified. I don’t care what Rock said or even if the whole thing was a stunt, Smith walking away from this without consequences would be the worse.

That’s my two cents.

Or, err… four, actually.

I think the OP means that the "slap" was controlled. Smith was very careful in the amount of force he put into it. If he really wanted to, he could've taken Rock's head off with a good punch in the face.

Smith was definitely PISSED though. That was no act, lol

Sorry but you guys who think this was staged don't seem too familiar with the entertainment business. The Academy Awards is supposed to be a prestigious, classy and mostly serious tribute to the film industry. It's the most important event for the industry. The Academy would never endorse people rushing the stage and beating on each other. It's not the Jerry Springer Show.

The question is whether "toned down" violence, whether real or staged, is acceptable as a part of a live TV award show. Apparently 12 members of the Academy had what was reported to be a very "heated" debate about this and what should be done to punish Smith for his actions. The reports I read suggested rescission of the Oscar from Smith is unlikely, but other punishment for his antics is likely.

Will Smith would not destroy his "nice guy" reputation for some stupid stunt in which he won't benefit

maybe he just hits like a girl;

There have been rumors floating for years that Smith is both a Scientologist and gay. These are the same rumors that dogged Tom Cruise and John Travolta; that they joined the Church of Scientology to cure them of their gayness. Not that it really matters but that may explain the girly swing.

It did occur to me that a guy who is genuinely mad is not likely to slap “like a girl” He’s more likely to punch at the face if he’s really angry. If he backs off a bit you might see a two handed push to the chest. I’m no expert in any of this but the clips I saw made it look like one of those fake punches you see in movies where the camera angle disguises the fact that the blow didn‘t actually connect.

You saw what everyone else saw. It looked a little phony and not a true expression of spontaneous anger from an alpha male man as opposed to a girlie man.

Will Smith portrayed Muhammad Ali in the 2001 film Ali and for that role had 7 hours of boxing training every day for months. He knows how to hit someone and trained for it.

In regards to the Scientology rumors, of the 3 actors you mentioned (Travolta, Cruise, Smith) Travolta seems to have been the most aggressively dogged by the gay rumors. He has been defending lawsuits by male massage therapists for years. This article is about one of them:

Around the corner
Will Smith seems perfectly ok with his wife fucking around with other guys but a comic makes a joke about her hair and he goes ballistic.
Then he cries afterwards, what a fucked up pussy, he lost his balls a long time ago.
Typical Hollywood entitled nutcase that all the hero worship has turned into something normal people can’t even recognize.
I have zero respect for these kind of people, liked him in Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.

I do think that many Hollywood Celebrities live a cocooned existence and are "fucked up pussies" as you put it. Many of them like Nicholas Cage and Wesley Snipes are incapable of handling their own financial affairs and are forced to file bankruptcies despite acting careers in which they made $100 million or more. They are out of touch with reality.

Will Smith's entire acceptance speech seemed like a halfhearted explanation of his behavior earlier in the evening. If any of you haven't heard it, I suggest you listen to it. It's incredibly bizarre how he ties in his own bad behavior in slapping Rock, with the role for which he was accepting an Academy Award, noting how Richard Williams "fought fiercely for his family." I almost interpreted him as trying to say that he was still in character as Richard Williams and still "fighting for his family" when he bitch-slapped Rock. It was the most bizarre Academy Award acceptance speech in history (excepting Marlon Brando's in 1973) and yet nobody is talking about it as it was also overshadowed by the slap and ensuing controversy.

Apparently it's an open marriage between Will and Jada. The joke was in poor taste but still he should have kept his composure and dealt with it. Seems to me that all this drama and talk about his marriage to Jada is obviously messing with him mentally. I think it's time to pull the plug and move on like 99% of celebrities and divorce. Hopefully they can remain friends. These celebrities live in an altered reality
