Winter tires on yet?

I had my winter tires put on last weekend before the snow started. I think that Dec 1 would be a more appropriate deadline to have winter tires installed.

Mine were put on myself on the 14th of november where it was a nice +7 degrees.

I agree Dec 1st is a more realistic date for mandatory winter tires.

I'm glad I don't have to abide by a deadline and can put them on when I feel the time is right. To drive several thousand KM's when there is not a snowflake in sight burns them up real quick. Got them on about two days before the first storm, and if I was late would just have to drive more carefully. These winter tires are no replacement for being careful and giving yourself extra time to get to your destination.

Be prepared to buy new winter tires every 2 years! Winter tires wear out fast in the summer heat.

Morocco, I hope you are joking. Univac is right, winter tires wear out so fast you will have to change way more often. That is extra costs.

Most new cars come with 4 seasons. No choice to buy winter tires.
With an old car, if you keep it more than 3 years, it is cheaper to get a full winter tire set, including rims. You change tires yourself in a parking lot.

In summer, at 30+ temperature and hot asphalt, winter tires could come apart with high speed aggressive driving. Asphalt temperature can climb to very high under heavy sunshune. Combine this with the heat generated by the brake disks, the heat generated by tire friction on the road and the strain of the tire being pushed in all direction, that is a recipe for disaster. This is not just winter tire wearing faster, they can fail.

He is not joking. You would be surprised how many people drive all year with their winter tires on. All you have to do is check tires at a shopping center parking lot to see that 10- 15 % do not switch over to summer tires at the end of the winter. It will take a high speed blow out and people killed on the highway before the law is passed to make it illegal to drive all year on winter tires.

Everyone should have their tires on rims, it just takes 20 - 30 minutes to jack the car up and put them on yourself. Slide under wheelie jacks can be had for $30 on special these days.

The garages want $15 to install your winter tires on rims and then $9 to balance the tire. At $24 per tire times 4, twice a year in fall and spring, the cost with tax is over $200 a year. It is just cheaper to buy rims and do it yourself. Over the life of the tires you are saving.
