 Miss Universe Canada contestant Jenna Talackova has been disqualified from the competition. (PHOTO: Model Mayhem) She may look every bit the part of a beauty queen, but Jenna Talackova has lost her chance for the crown because she was born a biological male.

The 23-year-old Miss Universe Canada finalist was disqualified from the competition after it was discovered she had undergone sexual reassignment surgery, reports CTV.

National director of Miss Universe Canada Denis Davila told the Toronto Star that while they consider Talackova to be a "real girl," Miss Universe rules stipulate that contestants must be a “naturally born female.”

Davila also told the Star that Talackova indicated on her registration form that she was born female. Talackova was disqualified the same day she revealed she was in fact born a male.

According to a statement from Miss Universe Canada, Talackova was disqualified because "she did not meet the requirements to compete despite having stated otherwise on her entry form. We do, however, respect her goals, determination and wish her the best."

In a 2010 interview, Talackova said she knew she was a female at age 4 and began hormone therapy at age 14. She underwent reassignment surgery at 19.

Talackova told CTV she's "not giving up" and is consulting a lawyer. In the mean time, Miss Universe Canada has removed all photos of the Vancouver resident from their website and another woman has taken her spot.

The scary part is that she's hot and no one ever knew till now. Which means that she fooled alot of people to get to this stage. I would have no problem being seen with her.

I don't get this? I can see not allowing a M to F Transgendered person not participate in woman's athletics. In the case of athletics, she was born a man and therefore has the bone structure and muscle mass of a man and gains an unfair competitive advantage. There was a recent male long driving champ who decided to don a wig full time and wear dresses and now he/she wants to play on the woman's golf tour and compete for prize money? But this beuatiful thing? She was born male and this is a huge handicap to overcome and not an advantage. This is not the fugly Renee Richards playing tennis.

I just don't understand how you can be born a man and look this good as a woman 20 years later. She would have got my vote for overcoming the handicap of being born the same gender as me...sort of like the GI that had his leg blown off but runs marathons on a prostetic or the Olympic swimmer that spent his childhood in an iron lung.

That's the problem... she fooled a lot of people. When they sign up for the competition the rules state that all contestants have to have been born female. She wasn't born female and she lied when she signed that contract or agreement or whatever the hell it's called. So she violated the rules of the contract and she was disqualified. If she had won and it came out later, the result would've been the same because whoever finished second would have raised all kinds of shit.

She'll end up with all kinds of press and publicity out of this anyways.

Why does this sound so much like a very long and intimate google relationship and a great desire for much more?

Why does this sound like a long and intimate google relationship now gone into shock?

So would a female-to-male transgendered person still be eligible according to the rules? I'd like to see that. Or rather not.

To be fair I think they should disqualify all fake boobs.:)

Anyway there are all kinds of proper, non-discriminating contests http://thechive.com/2010/11/10/sexy-beauty-pageant-im-in-9-photos/
When you go to some asian MP, be careful when they ask if you want the "extra".

I'm glad she is going to fight it!
You'd think we were living in the 1990's.....

Well,

I suppose in a world where so many archaic prejudices still exist the ambush tactics proving her qualifications are justified because of her "righteous" goal. Maybe everything she did was fair in view of the disadvantages of actually having the guts to be...hmmm...TRUTHFUL. After all if an apparent woman can harden the right judges penises, and enough of them, to get into the contest I guess her point is proven. Or maybe all the preceding is just BS and what she did was a deception, regardless of who she is now.

I don't think looking the part is enough. If the contest is for women then the contestants should be "women". That doesn't mean narrowing the definitions to exclude anyone like Jenna Talackova if she meets the gender rules. If she is really a complete woman now in all ways then I don't see any issue with her participation. But I don't think definitions should be broadened to include anyone who doesn't meet fair gender qualifications but can fool people.

I don't care much about beauty contests. In too many ways they're about who can make you drool more and little else. But I don't think they should become a game where anyone can deceive their way through them in a stunt to make a publicity splash for a political point.

http://www.thehollywoodgossip.com/2...to-compete-for-miss-universe-crown-after-all/

So she is a great looking complete "woman" and the contest directors have decided she should be included. How nice that she won't have to LIE any more in a competition where integrity is supposed to mean something...even if we know hotness is the real point. Ohhhhhh baaaby. ;)

Cheers,

I can't wait until I turn 65 (if I live that long  ) so that I can finally have some anti-discrimination group to fight for me. Right now every ethnic group in the world has some organization to back them up, woman have organizations to back them up, gays, lesbians and 'transgendered' have groups to back them up, even animals have PETA. But if you're a white, heterosexual male over 18 and under 65 (soon to be 67 in Canada), you're pretty much hung out to dry. Shit...we can't even stare at a hot babe without someone crying sexual harassment and don't even try to open a men only tavern like in the old days or the womens groups will drop a sledgehammer on your balls.

I miss the '70s. :D

And I disagree with Emily.

They should give a fair chance to women who are not sculpted or even worse transgendered and not rip them off with fake standards.

Otherwise it will be a marketing show for the best plastic surgeons and not for natural beauty.

I as a man am the primary audience for beauty show and I want to see a competition between natural women and not a bunch of ex-men who cut their genitals, took hormones and implanted fake boobs.
I feel betrayed. And I should be. Should I now question if this beauty queen is an ex man? Don't we even have a right to know what we are looking at?

And what should a natural women feel who are naturally beautiful, who have done no harm, that they can't even win over an ex-man? Well that will def "increase" their self esteem... So there is nothing fair in this bullshit and supporting it is just non-sense.

And I know that I am right and I know that every reasonable and sensible person will share this view.

Its a metaphore for life: don't trust anyone who's too pretty! :)

In his novel "Chelsea Horror Hotel" Dee Dee Ramone writes: "I have never met a real woman in my life who can cultivate sex appeal as much as a t.v. Maybe because a big part of sex is theatrical stuff"

don't even try to open a men only tavern

Yet they have women-only gyms...

Why not simply have a beauty contest for the transgendered? (Explicitly excluding those who haven't had sex changes!)

Perhaps, plastic surgeons, cosmeticians and drug companies would be interested in being sponsors.

Update - Decision reversed

According to CNN, the Miss Universe beauty pageant has reversed it's decision and will allow Jenna Talackova to participate, undoubtedly because of all the protests and negative publicity - http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/03/world/americas/miss-universe-transgender-contestant

After initially disqualifying Talackova, organizers of the Miss Universe beauty pageant reversed course late Monday, saying she can participate. In a statement, the Miss Universe Organization said Jenna Talackova can compete provided "she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions."

Speaking to CNN Tuesday, Trump said that according to the laws of Canada and the United States, Talackova should be allowed to enter the pageant.

The 61st annual Miss Universe Canada Pageant will be held in Toronto on May 19.

They do have transgendered beauty contests, there are even pics of this "woman" participating in them. There's no problem with holding contests like that and excluding contestants who were born female. Just like you can have a Miss Black America contest and exclude all other ethnic varieties of woman, or a Miss Gay America for only lesbian contestants. You could hold a gay only bodybuilding competition but if you exclude gays from a normal competition, someone will sue you over it. (not that you would find enough straight men to fill out a bodybuilding competition anyways. :) ) Try having a Miss Caucasian Heterosexual All Natural America contest and see how far you get. Every anti-discrimination group in the world will be crawling all over your ass! It seems the only thing where they can still do whatever they want is in the golf world where they still have private clubs where they can exclude women from becoming a member even when a woman is the CEO of their major sponsor. Not that they'll admit it publicly the chicken shit bastards. :D

Hello Anon,

The problem here is that many so-called transgendered individuals may and will see that label as being outside of the so-called "normal" and feel it's inadequate for them, no matter what pride the transgendered may claim as a whole. Though many transgendered they are no less than so-called "normals", for many others the goal remains to be accepted wholly as man or woman, not something separate as transgendered.

In the latter case this transgender issue is different from arguments about minorities. Minorities are secure and proud in their identity, even though their group identity is also at the heart of their status in society. When an individual wants to be accepted by all as either man or woman, then being doubted is a much deeper emotional and psychological confrontation at the heart of any identity. So this event is understandable, though it was carried out with dishonesty.
