Smile Strip Clubs and the Handicapped

This thread is inspired by various experiences working in SCs during the mid 1970's / early 1980's and by a recent thread in French which basically touches on the topic "Should Handicapped People see SPs". If some feel that I took poetic licence with the translation - so be it. Replies in any language are welcome.

During the era(pre contact) that I worked in SCs the various laws were not as handicapped friendly but the law of commerce being what it is/was people with handicaps were customers like anyone else and they were accepted in the clubs where I worked. Fortunately I never worked at a second floor or basement clubs and cannot comment for such establishments.

The basic issue came down to communications.Knowing in advance the comfort zone of each employee - stripper / dancer while facilitating the experience for both.

One of the issues today is that the various laws allowing or mandating access for the handicapped work against what they are trying to achieve.
Example being a parking lot where you must have two spots for handicapped parking becomes awkward to manage if three or more vehicles that qualify for handicapped parking arrive atthe same time.

    Your comments experiences appreciated.

I find most clubs are high up and require alot of stairs to reach

    not wheelchair accessible at all.

At least there are still some choices for them.

I used to see a person with CP in east end clubs. The Emire du Sexe on Notre Dame in Montreal East.

Handicapped is not limited to wheelchairs or a lack of mobility. Patrons may have other physical handicaps that do not limit mobility.

One of the breakfast regulars at "Les Courtisanes" - sexy restaurant, was an elderly blind gentleman with his dog and both were treated very well.

Perhaps it is a generalization but my experience has been that there is greater empathy in SCs and similar establishments.

EE. I seriously tends to agree with you on this one. If the girl isn't comfortable, she can avoid going to the customer or refuse if asked. Usually, handicapped guys gets pampered. Call it maternal instinct! I've never seen a lady refuse because of an handicap.
In Ottawa, there used to be a mentally handicapped guy who was having all girls he could to dance for him. The only ones who refused were the few who realized how much he had already spent that night and didn't want to abuse him. I've seen one telling him "I danced for you last week and I'll dance for you next week but now, save your money sweety." Now that was nice from the girl, compared to those who were all over him until he was broke.

In all my experiences in strip clubs or the few breakfasts I had at "Les Courtisanes" I do not recall one girl refusing nor do I recall any other staff member being anything but courteous.

Years ago in SCs when you had the features and the dancer who would also serve the drinks at the tables and do stage shows or table shows with the portable stool, in most clubs each shift would have a dancer who was the shift captain for want of a better expression and she would explain certain situations and customers to a new dancer.

Also recall a number of the features effectively dedicating a set to such customers with grace and dignity. Also remember a feature doing a number on a grabby customers hand with a well placed high healed step on a hand left on stage, buts that's for another thread.

Your maternal comment has merit. Another aspect is that working in SCs reveals vulnerabilities while creating a unique sense of equality in the sense that everyone inside is in a marginalized environment as equals.
