    Missing the Mirror?: try this

I haven't the time right now to give this a good look-over, but it looks like a welcome addition. According to the Gazette, it's being produced by former Mirror staffers.

Yes, the ads were a major factor.

Who cares about an article about a no name local independent band, or how to eat vegan while on a budget, and how to spruce up your neighborhood by planting roses in your alleyway......

According to the story in the Gazette (see the link in the thread starter), the fact that there are no ads is only a temporary situation:
Lorraine Carpenter, the site’s music editor told Open File Montreal that the group has no funding, and contributors are writing “as a labour of love” with the hope that there will be enough advertising to support the venture in the long run.

The answer to your question would be: "about 95% of the people who read it." As for my favorite SP, she has a particular affection for the Rant column.

But obviously, this won't succeed without ad revenue.

They seem to have sponsorships - see the Fantasia banner and are adding topics, namely Sports and other subjects targeting the 18-35 demographic.

The layout is appealing and has room for the various online ad services that provide rotating banners and linear advertising - real estate, travel, entertainment, restaurants, etc.

The popular SP ads did not generate advertising that was sufficient to make the Mirror profitable. The JDM classifieds have shrunk drastically and the JDM recently launched their cyberspace version. The new cyberspace approach has promise while the tabloid format is losing newspapers regularly.

Newspapers are done, look at the Gazette. The paper is no more than a few pages.
