Just to provide background why I’m “paranoid.” Some of us are enrolled in NEXUS which has a zero tolerance policy for violating CBP/CBSA rules especially if caught making a false declaration. I don’t mind being denied entry. I do mind being banned from NEXUS/Global Entry and possibly even Pre✓ for a couple of years.
Dude, I couldn't agree more. Last thing I would want to do is fuck up my NEXUS status and have to wait in the slow lanes again like the common folk. And my question wasn't really answered about that.

I'm interested to know what the bar/restaurant seen is in Montreal now. If I'm traveling to Montreal I don't want to be stuck in my hotel room for the 23 hours a day I'm not banging or getting a "massage".

Not really the subject of this thread but here is a short answer. For regular bars and restaurants it's open with restriction on capacity and social distancing but everything is ok (mask when leaving your table). By september, vaccination proof or a "passeport vaccinal" will be required. For strip clubs... well read this https://merb.cc/xenforo/forums/♣-montreal-›-strip-clubs.10/
Cases are rising here too, mostly unvaccinated dudes (this is the reason for new implementation by september). In fact, it will be more secure and more fun with this "vaccinal pass". I started going to restos, but not bars yet.

The United States has just announced that they will keep its land borders closed between Canada and Mexico until September 21.

That's gotta sting a little bit. I mean US citizens can freely roam all over Canada but we wont let Canadians into our country. It's so wrong, Canada is one of the countries that are at least trying to get it right.

Because the Delta variant is very dangerous, it's better to keep close all the borders.

Someone coming from the US is double vaccinated and tested before entry. That is safer than the locals that are double vaccinated and not tested. That is way safer than the anti vaxxer.

In search of some kind of economic normality and safety, I think you'd be far better of restricting the local non-vaccinated and allowing the safe people to visit.

Just an opinion.

the form specifically tells you you must have a plan. what if you get asked at arrival.
Tell them you'll stay in your room and order out with UberEats or some other app

Chances are they're not going to care unless you look obviously sick or you're selected for random testing and end up positive (at which point your quarantine will begin)

Here’s my contribution to this thread for those of us wanting to cross the border into Canada. I recently made the trip to Montreal via my motorcycle and I crossed the border from NY.

For me, waiting for the negative COVID test was the worst part. You are virtually handcuffed until you get the green light to proceed. Took my test midweek and got my negative results 2 days later. I used the ArriveCAN app to answer all the questions and uploaded my documents such as my test results, vaccine card, and passport info. When you get to the part about a quarantine plan you simply put in the address of your hotel as instructed. When your finished you get a code that you use when you cross the border. All of it was pretty simple and straight forward. My only concern about needing my phone for the crossing. I typically erase my phone before traveling for privacy reasons. I couldn’t do that this time because I needed to have the ArriveCAN app ready to go.

Get to the border only to find out the NEXUS lane is closed. This wasn’t that much of a pain in the ass because there was only a couple of cars ahead of me. Pull up to the agent, he asked for my ID, vaccine card, COVID test results, and asked me to show him my ArriveCAN code from my phone. He then asked, but it was more like confirming my quarantine plan. Didn’t get into details about it, just confirmed my hotel address. Then he hands me a box, a COVID test box. This is where it got a little weird because your dealing with a border agent so you don’t want to piss him off by asking to many questions but I also wanted to confirm a few things. He “suggested” I complete the test with 4 days of arriving to Canada. He then went into how difficult it would be for me to do it myself and sending it in etc. Kind of like a salesman, bait and switch tactic. He suggested I follow the signs for the COVID test and I can take care of it right now. It was a suggestion, not an order to do so. To me, that was a little weird and maybe others can elaborate on that. Anyway, I followed the signs and ended up at a test site just a couple of blocks away.

It looked as though the “random” COVID test we were told about is now mandatory. Everyone that was on line to get into Canada was also on the line to take the test.

Met with a lot of testing staff all in their ppe’s, gloves, shields, etc. quite the show. I was instructed that my KN95 mask was unacceptable and was given a cheap cloth mask to wear instead. Really? They also made me sanitize my hands when I took off my mask and again when I put the mask back on. More about the overuse of hand sanitizer later. I was then instructed to take a picture of the gift box I received from the border agent. It opened up on my phones browser. Only problem was that I just crossed an international border and my phone hadn’t picked up a cell signal yet. I was then shown a iPad with the WiFi and user password. Tried that several times to no avail and was asked to put my phone down. I forgot to mention, every time we had to pivot under my interrogation I was asked to use hand sanitizer, like 25 different times for the duration. Wtf? So now my phone is set aside and I’m handed surgical gloves and their iPad. I’m asked to complete the log in. I said I don’t know the password. How do u not know the password you just picked? The iPhone picked a strong password for me and saved it. The tester grabs the iPad and asks me to take my phone out again while still wearing surgical gloves. Took off the gloves and handed them to him. He refused and said I need to throw them out. I thought he meant right away so I got off the bike only to see the fear of death in his eyes. He then screamed for me to get back on my Hog. I complied. He had me input all of the same personal info again, you know the exact same shit filled out on the ArriveCAN app. So we tried it again and it worked. Success! Now it was finally time for the test. New guy, more hand sanitizer after 15 minutes finally opened up the test box. I was told to insert the tip in my nostril for 5 seconds each. I counted to 5 pulled it out and got yelled at. What is it now? The guy had a stop watch. Fuck me. Finished the test, used more sanitizer then I was asked to place it in a clear envelope and I was now handed a sanitizer wipe to clean the outside of the zip lock bag. I was told I would get an email with the results. Fuck you very much. That’s 45 minutes of my life I’ll never get back. I know they were just doing their jobs but you would think that if they are making all Americans stop and take a test they would of had people that spoke more fluent English. The communication breakdown was horrible. Much of my time spent there was sanitizing my hands and having to repeat myself and ask the testers to repeat what they said. It seemed like it was all a big show about nothing.

Made it to my hotel ordered up some SP’s and enjoyed the hell out of my trip! Big difference in Montreal compared to the states was the demand for using hand sanitizer. In the states it’s everywhere but not mandatory to use. In Montreal you’ll get chased down by security if you don’t do it walking into a store. That’s how I learned about the rule.

That’s pretty much it. Going back home was easy and no hassle at the border.

Wow, that sounds rough. Thanks for the info.

5/5 of my land border crossings have been absolutely terrible. Even before CoVID, so I started to only fly in. Will be flying in 2 weeks, hopefully the airport will be much easier.

Yes, what a SHIT SHOW.....F^cking COVID

Always tough when you’re at the Entry Border...don’t want to get denied Entry...
How do you kindly say no to their Suggestions (?)
Especially IF you had 4 days to take the Test...

Hey. Read a little more into my novel and I go into how I eventually did say yes and end up taking the test. I didn’t want it to be an issue in the future so I just gave in like a good little traveler.

ROTFL walooo. I posted on my experience flying in and out of MTL on another thread, link below. Brief summary: Had to present documents at airport to get boarding pass, was a little longer line than usual because of that. Airport was pretty empty going in and flying out (of US departures area). Customs was quick, but got selected for random testing (not everyone was selected at that time). Probably spent another 30-60 min going to testing site in hotel attached to airport, getting my info entered, and tested. Maybe they pick staff who can speak better english at the airport facility, but didn't have any difficulty/drama and no sanitizer Nazis, lol. The extra time was not a big deal for me . . . took the 747 downtown (ends at Lionel-Groulx on weekdays) and metro after, but still arrived before room was ready. Importantly, was told I do not have to quarantine while waiting for test results, which were emailed a few days later. Had a blast. Saw more than usual, with less failures/cancellations than usual also. Ended up staying an extra night/day as flight out was cancelled (plane only about 1/3 full . . . airline claimed nothing to do with that but rather crew shortage . . . right), which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Some folks were advised (by airline representatives during the rebooking process) to retake antigen testing to get back into US as borderline 3 days since test, but other than signing a form and digitally attesting that I had a negative COVID test, no one asked to verify the test results. In fact, the airline seemed more concerned about return testing than anyone else. Very different experience going out than coming in, like walooo indicated.

Oh, and almost forgot, the arriveCAN app forgot/lost my info the day I was flying out. But they had sent an email with a code as walooo mentioned. Showed that at boarding and that was fine. Had a few nervous moments trying to re-enter all the data, then asked an airline representative if the email with code would be enough (who answered yes, btw). Don't recall the border agent asking for this . . . the info was probably linked to my passport anyway.

OMG. Thanks for the insightful and detailed summary of your trip and the process. The detail you provided made it seem like I was a spectator at the border.

I’m happy you had a great time with the SPs (who did you see?). For now I’ll add an extra Benjamin or more to my NNJ and NYC SP appointments. I’ll even enjoy a few extra Molsons at an NHL game here in NJ prior to my SP appointment and pretend I’m north of the border. Lol

The process is too laborious for me to make the trip anytime soon. Maybe if I wasn’t used to waking up and driving to Montreal on a whim I’d consider differently.

The hassle-reward ratio for me makes the decision easy. Heck, I roll my eyes and get annoyed at the typical questions of “where are you staying?” and “how much cash are you carrying?” when I cross the border.

At least you had a fun motorcycle ride up there. Hope the SPs made the trip worth it.

Did you go to McLeans? How are the bars now?

I tried to give a lot of details to help out my fellow patriots. In the end, the juice probably wasn’t worth the squeeze. But I’m glad I got it out of my system. Surprisingly the massage joints up there are really busy compared to the agencies. I’m posting some reviews now. McLeans was open but Kenny said that he wasn’t around. The feel in this town is eerily similar to NYC around April or May. People still seem very uncomfortable being in social settings. I remember this feeing very much back in April. Getting vaccinated changed all of that for me along with the relaxed rules in NY. Many, and I mean many businesses didn’t make it here. Lots of places shut down but the more established places seem to be open. Everything closes early but hopefully Canada maintains or continues to do better with their 67% fully vaccinated rate and this winter won’t be as ugly as last years. Everyone is talking about how much they can’t stand the vaccine passports. Many of the locals seem to have had enough with the lockdowns, curfews, etc. and their fed up. Just a few weeks ago there was a huge march against them.

I just found this somewhat counter-intuitive entry requirement on travel.gc.ca -- If you are symptom-free, you can show a positive test result for entry. This sounds a lot easier than getting a negative test result within 72 hours for those who already had covid.

Here’s a question, if I enter Canada in Quebec by car are there any restrictions driving to Ontario?
