US Citizen wishing I could move to Montreal

I don’t know where you’re looking but I’ve never paid $600/hr, and I’ve rarely used Indies. There are good agencies in NJ and a couple fairly good ones in NYC for $350-$450/hr. Screening is a requirement, that’s just how it goes.

That is based on tryst. 600/hr is the low end as well. Many provider's range all the way up to 1000/hr and we aren't even talking about legit porn star rates as I discussed in another comment.

The fact that screening is accepted as normal in the US just really illustrates my point. No where else in the world would it be tolerated. Any agency or independent demanding the level of information thats expected in the US would have zero business.

Also, I haven't been to NYC/NJ but the agencies in my metro aren't always open to new clients, presumably to limit LE risk, so it's not even an option for everyone.

I've visited Montreal a few times and love it. The US and especially the state that I live in just doesn't live up to the hobby standards of Montreal.

Montreal is a 4 hour flight for me and there's a lot of money drained on hotels/airbnbs for trips. I think that having my own place would make it easier to have a second base in Montreal. I've tried to crunch the numbers on buying a condo as a vacation rental and putting it on AirBnB in between my visits but it would be a net negative financially. Not to mention all the hurdles of not being a Canadian citizen, AirBnB restrictions, getting a bank account as a foreigner, etc.

I've also thought about getting a job in Montreal to help get me a visa and relocate, but it could be very challenging as well. The job market in my field is very tight right now with all of the complications going on in North America. I also don't speak any French. I don't know how much of a benefit it is to recruit a US person into Montreal in my field.

As it is, I'm going to have to decrease my visits to Montreal due to the economy and geopolitical tensions.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how I could increase my hobby lifestyle in Montreal? Should I just stick to a few visits per year?

by the way about the french, you would probably enjoy hobbying in TO or VAN as much as MTL.

Something I dont understand...is there a path where a US citizen could just ask for residency without first having a job? even if it takes longer?

Toronto is by far much better for hobbying then Vancouver. I recommend Toronto to OP as it is the most similar to Montreal and there are way more choices for Indys.

Porn stars routinely charge clients 1500-2000 per hour in Vegas which is more than what they charge for doing a regular scene. Most porn stars also aren't willing to do what they do in their scenes with clients. Its a complete rip off.

Many years ago I was considering buying a condo in the downtown area. Real estate was much cheaper before COVID but I’m glad I never did it. Mostly because of the COVID restrictions preventing US citizens from crossing the border. But if I was to consider something like this again I would buy a place near the Canadian border in Vermont or NY and just cross over when the urge hit me.

this is an idea, but I just looked in Burlington and condos there are not cheap!

prices are almost what they are in NYC, and it's still a 90-minute commute.

you can get a lot more for your money in Montreal, and the street life is much more appealing (at least for me.)

any suggestions on other places to look?

I'm what we call a banana: yellow on the outside and white inside. But can fluently speak Cantonese.

Don't have much Montrealers treating me well.
At work most of the nice people I bonded with aren't locals.

The only Montrealers treating me well so far are the SPs lol

Last point. I don’t think law enforcement really gives a rat’s ass about clients in NYC/NJ. Boston is entirely different animal as that city (and state of Mass) targets clients.

I am surprised by this. I always thought that the US LE shut down most agencies if not all and that Indies was the only option. But it seems enforcement seems to vary a lot from state to state.

Sorry for confusion. I avoid giving US independents personal screening information not because they’re more likely to be an LE target, but I just think it’s riskier when an individual (especially one that is new to scene) has your information (a friend could get access, jealous boyfriend, blackmail, retaliation for bad review, etc).

But I’d concede a well-established and popular independent is much less risky. I’ve just always been more comfortable with agencies more than girls who pop up out of nowhere.

And I don’t want to make waves with indies on Merb. Most of them who engage here are safe options (more so than girls on Tryst).

Garden State Starlets also seems to be another good option. $200-$250 US, mostly Latinas. I have not partaken, admittedly. I am cautious about this kind of stuff in the US.

Mixed reviews but I’ve used them. Maddie is a good option. Safe option if nothing else. Been around forever.

Immigrating in Canada is a bit more complicated than it was a few years ago, it may change in the future but coming here without a job would very likely be nearly impossible, unless you come with a lot of money and even then.
Quebec official language is French so yes it's much easier if you can speak/learn it but, on the other hand, it's possible to get a job speaking only English, especially in Montreal, probable much more complicated elsewhere in the province.

Not really. For me personally I’ve been considering a place near Toronto instead. Only because the scene in Montreal is just not worth it anymore IMHO. The appeal of Montreal for me was the affordable prices, nightlife, cleanliness, overall safe, and a quick drive from NYC. With the deterioration of the city, the homeless, lack of a vibrant nightlife, and escort prices close to being what I could get in Toronto it’s almost a no brainer for me.

I think the OP needs to ask himself why he is really considering moving to Montreal..If he loves the city and lifestyle that's one thing, and even leaving aside the cultural challenges already mentioned here it could be an option worth exploring, especially if the work is something that is easily portable or can be done remotely.

Having said that, if those conditions exist for work and/or he is willing to change countries simply for a better mongering experience then he's absolutely nuts to even consider Montreal as an option. While Montreal is a great NA destination it's still a 3rd rate mongering spot in the grand scheme of things and many better options are available in other locations, and far cheaper as well. Even more so if he is prepared to move somewhere where he doesn't speak the primary language, which he has indicated he is open to by coming to Quebec with no French.

In short if you're not moving for work or love of the city don't move at all. If you're moving for the hobby only then go somewhere else.

My thoughts exactly. And while Montreal is a nice mongering city, it’s not what it was and everything is cyclical. He’d be better spending the +$200 per session more and rent a summer place near a NJ beach. The economics support that.

As much as I appreciate Montreal (it’s a beautiful city), outside of sessions with Vog or Euphoria, it’s not my cup of tea. And I’d recommend someone think twice before upending his life.

Ha! That depends on what you consider to be a third world country. It's an outdated term by most standards, but it hasn't really been replaced by anything generally accepted and precise. Most people would say that anything that isn't NA or Europe is 3rd world, but not really so. Most would actually be considered 2nd world or semi developed as opposed to third world, which usually means much of africa and the less developed countries in Asia, plus some central America, Cuba and Haiti. Still, to answer your question, most of Europe, about half of South America, probably only Panama in Central America, large parts of southeast Asia. Pretty much anywhere you want to go. We're chauvinistic about out culture, and we like living where we live (mostly) but as a place to monger Montreal is only the best of the worst (North America), Virutally anywhere else is better to monger. That doesn't mean that I'd want to live in all of them. However, if the OP was tying his residential decisions strictly on the basis of mongering he could do far better in a huge variety of other places.
