I think this logic applies to many industries, I know that it's easy to make it personal in the hobby, but the same reason people go to a studio for massage therapy vs 1 person operation, or hire a cleaning agency, or hire a big business for construction work vs a dude on marketplace.
I am just trying to explain the flip side, personally I don't use agencies.

They could, but they need to make money too. A lot of it. And they need protection.
For the years I have seen girls at the agency, I could generally categorize them into 2 groups.
The hot moneymaker. This one was a student and was great at being an escort, but not to be fooled, they were there for 1 to 2 years max and racked up 300k or more.
The hot troublemaker. This one was a party animal, like. They were great escorts, but you could feel it was not leading up to anything good. Too much booze, smokes, drugs...

The agency vs indy debate is a bit pointless. Bottom line its about price and convenience for the clients. With an agency you only have to nurture one relationship vs one with each indy who often ask things like references or pictures of IDs. Its a more complicated environment. Prices are also way out there in many cases.
To each their own i guess.... I just think it would be better if agencies didnt hire 17 year olds girls... I mean .. What the fuck ?!
There are Independents with lower prices. There are also people with morals who, regardless of the industry, don't mind spending more or putting more effort to get something ethical. There are also expensive indies, yes, just as there are also people who don't mind turning a blind eye to the possibility of abusive work conditions if it means they get a less expensive, more convenient booking experience.
The lack of screening and the lack of fucks given are some of the main reasons why people experience traumatic bullshit at agencies. Or in this industry in general. I used to be someone who didn't screen. It was not a pretty time for me as an escort.
This could be the beginning of the end of agencies. XO was one. But police could go after others if they receive complaints. This means that the hobby will become very similar to the US. The agencies are the biggest reason that prices remained very competitive. Agencies are also very convenient, no government ID or deposit needed.

Do they all? Hopefully not, but one can't know. I just truly hope I never encountered one in the few times I used xo (only 6 or 7 times total). It saddens me to hear how some there were treated. Awful that minors were involved - just morally unforgivable.
Obviously and XO paid dearly for that and other fuck ups.Though I noticed that in the article that this happened in 2017 while the investigation started in 2024. Makes you wonder if that particular allegation has any legs. If yes then why did the cops waited 7 years?

I was always kind of uncomfortable with agencies, I understand they can be beneficial in some cases but they're also more likely to involve exploitative situations. I guess I'll stick with indies, this is just another reason.
