Has anyone experienced this scam/dick move?

Thanks to screening, we sometimes have to share our phone numbers. Thanks to that, twice in the last three years with the second time being this week, I've gotten a text from an unknown number threatening to inform my spouse that I'm visiting SPs.

The first one came with a way to avoid telling my wife if I paid $1000. The one that came this week didn't even want money, but went straight to including my wife in the group text saying I've been hanging out with "hookers." What the two different senders didn't know is I'm no longer married, but imagine if I was. An SP once told me the text is usually from a SP trying to shake down clients, so by pure statistics this has probably happened to someone who is still married. As I already noted, the text that arrived this week didn't even ask for money.

My ex-wife told me she got both texts. The text from a few years ago actually first went to her sister, not her. People are the worst.

There was another thread recently about LL and bad experiences.
I experienced exactly what you did and like you I am divorced.
They threated to notify my "wif", I said go ahead and gave them her number. They never did contact her or I would have heard about it.

Question:

How were they able to include her in a group text? How did they get her info?

That's one of the problems/dangers of seeing indies. When you use an agency, the escorts don't get your number. I would rather share my number with an agency booker than with an indy. Since I always use agencies in Montreal, this has never happened to me.

I laughed at the first scammer and told them to go ahead, but had that happened just a few months earlier it would have been a headache. If one was actually innocent, how do you prove a negative?

I didn't reply to the text from this week. My ex learned about first one from her sister, but we never discussed it until today.

To answer your question of how they found my ex-wife's info, pretty sure background checks on internet mention related people too. I've gotten texts here and there that actually used my brothers' names and not mine. It's a jungle out there.

You're 100% correct, sadly. If it's not from the indie herself, my info was from the indie for sure. Both happened right after I contacted indies (that I still know who they are).

Also, thanks to ease of generating phone numbers, looking up who created first number didn't yield anything with a simple search. I suppose there are other investigative tools, but other than revenge it's not worth the hassle. But goddamn, I understand revenge because what's the point of causing so much chaos?

I usually advocate never doing any screening whatsoever other than personal referrals, which I'm happy to provide, but I understand that not everyone has the same risk tolerances and/or focus on individual SPs. I feel the same way about deposits, knowing that it's just a question of when, and not if, you will lose. With respect to the phone number stuff the easiest and safest way to share one is to use a monger phone with nothing else on it. It's pretty cheap and safe to use if that's all that's required, as is the case with many MPs/SPs. Unfortunately the only way to avoid giving out ID info is simply to refuse to provide it. I can think of no good reason for any of the guys to provide any personal ID that includes any personal info whatsoever, and you will get none in return, of course. Speaking for myself only if someone insists that this info be provided I simply move on to the next option.

Having said that, and this has been discussed before, there's very valid reasons from the ladies' standpoint as to why they should ask for this info for their personal safety. At the end of the day it all comes down to personal preferences and individual risk tolerance, as well as deciding where your personal priorities are with respect to safety, both yours and the SPs.

I use a second phone and would never share id. Never had issues described by op.

Another trick I have is I use hotmail addresses for this and online dating and blocked hotmail on my real phone and work computer. Learned the hard way a spouse or friend can take a browser and accidentally end up in an open email account.

The one scam I experienced was an agency provider (who handed out her contact so I saw her indy) stole some items from my place. She still works but seems less popular now.

As if a booker can't go rogue and steal the client list to shake down every one on it.

There are independents, and there are scammers. We don't belong in the same catogery. Don't blame the honest, hard workers if you fell on scammers on a shady site, it's not warranted.
