For the record Vick was accused, found guilty and served time for more than "training" dogs to fight. Here is a link that will clear up some questions.....he did kill dogs.
Thanks for the clarification, Jman. I should have done more research and I stand corrected.

Just to put a little bit of clarity in this whole 100 huskies massacre..
As I stated before, I have family that live in b.c..... On a farm with roughly 15-20 acres of land.
My aunt has taken in many animals that needed a home.. And I have done the same... It must be in my blood..?
Anyways, the search for homes for these dogs was limited to a phone call to a local shelter, and one to the local SPCA( which obviously couldn't house 100 dogs) There was no media coverage, Internet ads (which are free.. And tend to spread to people quickly )..! No newspaper ads? Nothing.
I would of Taken one!! Even go through the trouble of getting it to Quebec!.. My aunt would of never let them just be killed? Regardless of their age, she would of loved to have 2 huskies that had a minor role in the olympics..

Glad to help Sweetwater. :) Both stories frankly are very sad, albeit for differing reasons...but still very sad and very preventable...

You are so right Ricky...hell simply google "husky dog rescue" and there are dozens of websites that come up...like I said...very preventable.

Just to put things into perspective, here's the following lecture: Fight against sex slavery. It is harsh in the beginning, but it offers hope too.

What was done to the dogs is crazy, but...
That presentation offers a reason to calm down.
But that presentation also offers a glimpse of why some consider a dog better than a human.

Thanks for the insight Our Affair...I'd like to offer commentary and try to stay on topic so I will refrain from comment on the topic of sex slavery, which in itself can open and has been entire discussion.

These stories of animal cruelty are sad and very preventable. But, considering a dog better than a human...treating a dog like a human...I have read the commentary here and I personally and frankly disagree.

Dogs are bread to be companions to humans...but they are pack animals. They are either led or they lead. If you treat them as an equal and the dog is strong willed you are only asking for behavioral problems with the animal. I am by no means an expert on this...however, I have witnessed first hand what happens to a strong willed, strong breed of dog when left to "be like a human". The animal is anti social with other animals and even other humans; it becomes possessive and can cause harm even to the owner who treats it so well. Dogs need to be trained and handled properly. They do not posses the reasoning ability of a human, the higher cognitive skills of a human nor the emotional complexity or maturity of a human. Just one mans opinion as derived from personal experience and learning from those much smarter about the subject than I.

Responsible multi pet owner and animal lover,

Je Peut pas croire que on parle d'un tel sujet au Canada en 2011 !!

I've heard many crazy stories in the past decade from 9/11.. To the guy that cut the other guys head off in a bus, to the cop that sodomized the guy with his nightstick in a metro, to the Sean bell shooting, to all the dead animals in the past few weeks.... Etc..
I guess it's safe to say that if it isn't pollution.. Or financial crisis..?.. It's going to be the way humans are going off the deep end, and commiting unthinkable acts...we are clearly headed in the wrong direction.!
but for some reason this particular incident hits home with me..!, maybe because I still am convinced that I could have personally been implicated in resolving this unwanted huskie issue..?
I can't even stand hearing about this anymore? ... But I do thank those that gave their 2 cents.. At least I know I'm not alone in wishing a safe home for every living thing on this planet.

for tonight I'm going to call myself a lovely companion to change my thoughts, and get all this boiling blood out of my head...!!!!
And tomorrow when I wake up? I'm going to either adopt another dog?.. Or find a huskie pup.

Hmmm,

Those who treat Dogs better than people are the ones who know the most about Dogs.

Oh, please! The fact that I treated my last Dog like royalty did not do her any disservice. She never complained. The only ones who ever complained where those who were jealous because I thought more of my Dog than I did of them. My Dog was a better person than they were. What did they expect?

Sounds like you have a great deal of pent up cynicism.

Hogwash. Just because they can't verbalize does not mean that they don't express emotions. Emotions can be observed in their behavior. Spend enough time with a Dog, and you'll see.

Very true as with many mammals. They have some complex emotions. But to suggest they are on the same level as humans is over-reaching in a big way. They simply don't have anywhere near the conception abilities that impact on the most complex emotions. However, given the extremities of human emotions, a pet can be highly preferable for company some times.

They do not posses the reasoning ability of a human, the higher cognitive skills of a human nor the emotional complexity or maturity of a human.

Make that the alleged general maturity of humans...lol. But you're right. I love animals and dogs are wonderful and complex creatures. But, some people love them so much they seem to need to project a lot more into their pet friends than there is.

The report says the employee, who lived at the same location as the dogs, handled hundreds of dogs. Occasionally he euthanized animals, using a gun, with the support of a veterinarian.

In April, 2010, his job was to cull the herd of about 300 by about 100 dogs. A veterinarian was contacted but refused to euthanize healthy animals. Attempts were made to adopt out the dogs, but with only limited success.

The report states the employee had killed more than a dozen dogs when he came to Suzie, the mother of his family’s pet dog, Bumble. The blast from his gun wounded her horribly, and her screams of pain made him drop the leash. Eventually he had to use a gun with a scope to finish her off at a distance. Other dogs attacked him when he went to retrieve the body.

Euthanizing healthy intelligent animals huh. And that's supposed to be right and humane??? SHIT! If this was legal it was sanctioned barbarity. IMHO...he's no better than Vick was, and just as heartless. Maybe there should be one more (human) candidate for euthanasia...MAYBE.

"Any dog sledder who culls dogs at the end of a season should be culled himself"...AFFIRMATIVE!

 :(
