So what you are saying is that Ryan Dempster is not a good pitcher. Hughes, having a couple bad games where his era gets bloated, yet pitching several other good games over the course of the season makes little difference and that pitcher is labeled forever as a bad pitcher  he is only 26 (hard to believe, seems he has been around forever) and many pitchers get better during their prime, which is coming for Phil.

If Hughes pitches 2 more gems like he did his last start, he is near or under Dempsters era and now all the sudden he is in the "good pitcher" category under the rumpie rules HAHA! Nice try, but no dice, Hughes is overall a good pitcher, he is just inconsistent but has the potential to be a much better pitcher on a regular basis and is still young enuff, Dempster just sucks in the AL and is much older. Put Hughes in the NL and he would have a era between 2.50 and 3.50 and win 15-20 games a season.

Lackey had a era of 6.41 two seasons ago, yet now you are chirping he is a good pitcher, see a pattern here? (save the injury excuse, he sucked before the injury came about) Ahhhhh oui, the name on the front of the jersey makes the rumpie rules null and void.... haha

There ya go little league, pick that one apart,

Big Leagues

Good pitchers don't have 4.80 ERAs.

Yet are near the top of their division and wont go away and it is killing you....... and the Yanks are getting more bats coming this summer. Besides Granderson, ever heard of a guy named Jeter? You are delusional if you think he will come back and not be himself, he would retire before that happens. Jeter will be Jeter (at least his bat) or we wont see him this season but i have a good feeling we will.

PS, Pitching wins Championships ;)

But pitching isn't the Yankees problem. Their problem is that they have no bats and, other than Granderson, none returning from the DL. They remain near the bottom of the AL and will continue to do so.

That's right HOMER. I hear you already gave him the MVP for the year 2078.

No, women I date don't have beards...

You really thought you had to say this...mr. insecure. So it doesn't go without saying. :noidea: BTW: Rumps was talking about guys with beards. What, no denial about men. :eyebrows:

Mon Dieu, vous les gars sont drôles. (you guys are funny)

http://heavyinthegames.com/buchholz-pitching-towards-cy-young-award/

Clay Buchholz is by far the hottest pitcher in baseball right now. Buchholz, who leads the MLB in ERA (1.62), pitched 5 ½ innings and Boston to a 3-0 victory over the New York Yankees. The game was called early due to bad weather conditions, but the Red Sox ace improved to 8-0 on the season. Bouncing back from an irritation in his collarbone area last Monday, Buchholz looked rested and very healthy. The MLB All-Star game is casting its’ ballots right now and Buchholz has to be one of the leading vote getters. He is almost certain to start for the American League this year. In 2 games against the Yankees this year Buchholz has given up only one run this year and is 2-0. The Boston Red Sox are currently in first place on top of the American League East right now and Buchholz’s pitching is a big reason for that. The Red Sox season so far has definitely been a complete turnaround from last year and Clay Buchholz pitching is has been the main cause. Having an opportunity to see Buchholz pitch in 2011 against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field made me a strong believer that night that he’s good as advertised.

Of course it's not much of an achievement to dominate a light-hitting team like the Yankees. I am very happy to see Clay doing so well, but in regards to the All-Star game, I would rather see him take the acknowledgement and stay home for some rest rather than pitch at all.

Red Sox 10 Angels 5

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...saltalamacchia-david-ortiz-mike-carp/2406025/

BOSTON (AP) — David Ortiz hit a three-run home run and Jarrod Saltalamacchia connected twice, the first coming one pitch before Mike Carp homered Sunday, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels 10-5.

Ryan Dempster (4-6) got his 2,000 career strikeout when he fanned Alberto Callaspo to open the sixth.

The Red Sox took two of three in the weekend series against the Angels and have won six of eight.

Los Angeles entered the weekend having won eight straight against the Red Sox after going 6-0 last season, but dropped the final two after winning the opener of a day-night doubleheader Saturday.

Albert Pujols and Callaspo each had solo homers for the Angels.

Ortiz, who hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs in Boston's 7-2 win in the nightcap of a doubleheader Saturday, has five homers and 14 RBIs in his last 10 games.

Saltalamacchia and Carp opened the sixth with homers into the center field seats off starter Joe Blanton (1-10), Carp's drive chasing Blanton. In the next inning, Saltalamacchia homered to center field again, this time a three-run shot into the first row off Robert Coello to give Boston a 10-3 lead.

Dempster gave up three runs on six hits in six innings, walking two and striking out six for just his second victory in his last six decisions.

Blanton was tagged for seven runs — six earned — with three homers in eight hits over five-plus innings.

Like the Blue Jays, the Angels were one of these teams that made big moves and were supposed be leading contenders, not only for the division, but to be a big threat for the World Series. So where are they now. Somehow both are in nearly identical positions with the Angels 10.5 out and the Jays 11.0 out and sinking. No one made bigger headlines than the Angels recently grabbing up Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton (no not Alexander DD), not to mention having Mike Trout. Both are hitting .250 and under. Yet, both the Red Sox and Yankees have made a mockery of big name signings.

Call that Lesson 101 in team-building. An assembly of stars does not a championship team make. Just ask any Yankees fan. :thumb:

Merlot

Merlot, if you want to know, I have never dated a guy, or have been interested in a guy, or ever been alone with a guy in that way. You are right that rumps, in his typical juvenile way, inferred that I did. That's all I am going to say, because you know how childish you 2 are being at the moment?

Yes, another good pitching performance by the NYY pitching staff, starting with David Phelps, who matched Felix "The King" Hernandez, pitching 6 strong innings. Yankees won 2-1, and a win is a win.

Yanks remain only a 1 1/2 games behind the AL East leaders Boston Red Sox.

DD, I really don't want to pick on you. But why explain this to anyone.

Because you and Mr. Rumps, in your 11-year-old, juvenile way, inferred, asked, etc., etc.

It's really not my business what you and Mr. Rumps do, don't do, have done, or never done. I have never asked, inferred, or cared what you do.

But why did he infer, and you follow up and ask?

And if you don't want to pick on me, why did you even quote me and ask me the stupid question that you just did?

Ah yes, we know that old trick. It's called the non-denial denial. I have little doubt that what he says about not dating women with beards is true...however...

Looks like you got him dead to rights, Merlot. You, sir, are a sleuth.

Excuse me, but how is Merlot's outing of you a personal attack??? Do you have something against guys who like guys with beards? Hey, it's not my thing, but whatever floats your boat is just fine with me...other, of course, than rooting for the Evil Empire.

Guys, KNOCK IT OFF!!!!!

Daydreamer41, stop taking offense to every possible tiny little dig. It's a SPORTS thread and people take shots at each other from time to time to get under their skin. Either grow some thicker skin or stop posting in these threads.

Everyone else: calm down before I close the thread and suspend someone for a useless, stupid, pointless dig.

GOT IT?

Mo's velocity seems to have picked up, the radar on game day had his cutter consistently over 90 MPH and even touched 93 MPH, can anybody who saw the game today confirm?.

AL MVP if the season ended today, Mo, no doubt, it is simply amazing what he has done this year at his age.

Mariano was consistently hitting 93 yesterday and gassed Franklin with high cheese to end the game. Today he got a little lucky. Teix made a spectacular play in the 9th that saved him.

3 stars, all pride and guts guys:

1. Chris Stewart
2. David Phelps
3. Jayson Nix

Comments: Stewart, who is now batting .276, had the game winning hit. Phelps matched Hernandez, pitching 6 innings and allowing 1 run on 3 hits, yet another great start from him. Nix had the critical bunt to set up Stewart's game winning hit; he is actually an excellent bunter. Nix also stole his 8th base and 0 has caught stealings. It's good stuff we are seeing from Stewart and Nix. Phelps is pretty much on a roll the last month if you remove the liner game and the game thereafter.

How's Texeira's bat doing now that he's been back for some time? Wasn't he one of the saviors all Yanks fans were waiting for to come back? ;) Who'd have thought that would be a downgrade from Overbay when the season started?

OMG, do you monitor each Yankee's stats on a day to day basis, and as soon as Texeira has a few bad games in a row, you climb on top of a mountain and yell at the top of your lungs. Get a life.

Oh man...I can't wait to see a gimpy Capn Jeter come back to the team!! This is gonna be entertainment at it's finest. Talk about a downgrade at SS when Laynce Nix gets moved out of the lineup. Hahaha. Or is it his brother Jayson, either way, they both suck ;)

Haha, your resident Red Sox Sabretoothmetrics expert named Andrew Miller the next Randy Johnson by the time Miller is 50. Every time you see Miller walk batters with the bases load, you have to laugh.

You're an astute observer, K. "A few bad games in a row." HAHAHAHAHA. Like every one he's played. BTW, Teix has three home runs. I saw the first two and both were batting practice fastballs that hung out over the center of the plate begging, "Hit me. Hit me."

To answer your question:
Overbay .250/.294/.457/.751
Teixeira .167/.250/.444/..694

and...and...and...16 punchados in 36 at bats. WOW!!

You nailed it again, K. I just can't wait for Jeter and his walker to hobble on to the field.
