If you'd paid attention to his posting history, Smuler, you'd be aware that he's living in a different century.
No, I am in this century. However, I don't remember the Boston Braves like you do rumps.

Senators- I pictured Frank Howard
He once charged the mound when he was a Met coach, after a player was headhunting at Shea one night
You had to see the horror in the pitcher's eyes as Frank was leading the charge
Best Regards

PS- nothing against you daydreamer...
   I hear there are great ballgames on the floor of the Senate.
Yes, but what planet are you on. We're on the 3rd Rock. How about you?
You actually had to announce you are in this century. :noidea:
Unbelievable. It's like reading a reincarnated Marx bother.
Looks like a 5 team race in the East!
DD41, didnt some expert have the Yanks written off by June 24th? hmmmmmmmmmmmm
Game four was a theft. Game one was a gift. How about that Boston Detroit game today? I was gong to call game one a theft of a game until I saw game four of the series.
Well, you see a lot more of the Bengals than I do, but he sure looked bad this weekend. You are right our defense may be a little suspect but as you have seen it has nothing to do with Tory Hunter.
Already down to four. The Yankees who operated on smoke and mirrors on the one last gasp of Hafner and Wells through the first month of the season are 13-18 over the last month, rarely scoring over three runs a game. They're now just 2.5 games from the basement.Looks like a 5 team race in the East!
No wonder they call you daydreamer. I suppose the 41 part stands for 1941, when your Washington Senators went 70-84. Can you point out the post where someone said that the Sox would have the season wrapped up by now? I can recall saying that they'd be competitive, which they are and that the Yankees wouldn't, and they aren't. Two for two. Give my best to Mr. Roosevelt if you see him.Yeah, he was predicting a team that won 69 games last year would have the season wrapped up by now.

I agree that Wang has been a revelation so far. You watch him pitch & you tell yourself "now, that's a guy who knows how to pitch!" Pitching coach Pete Walker told him to add some off-speed stuff to his usual repertoire during his first game in Chicago and he's been tremendous so far. I also cannot understand why he wasn't called up by the Yankees. But who knows, it's quite possible he wouldn't have had the same type of success he's having had he remained in NY.
Another of Walker's star pupils up to date has been Esmil Rogers. Before he was recently promoted to the starting staff, he didn't shine much out of the bullpen and only had 2 pitches. Walker got him to use 2 more pitches in order to mix things up more & so far, that formula has paid off dividends.
p.s. Joe, did you check out the new outfield section (a.k.a. The Budweiser Zone) while at the ballgame? Seems like a lot of fun out there. I was in that section briefly about two weeks ago. That area always seems to be full, though.

I only saw the first two games of the series, but there were a number of plays on which Hunter looked awful. I don't recall specifics, but there was one ball that dropped that he should have caught. There was another, a hit, that he failed to cut off and it got by him to the wall. Are you kidding? He looked good against the sox I thought.
There are a lot of stats that should go. While the Save stat is a somewhat recent development, we're still using a whole bunch of stats that harken back to the 19th century. RBI, for example, is not reflective of a guy's ability to hit, so much as the ability of guys in front of him to get on base. Wins does not reflect a pitcher's ability as much as the ability of his team's ability to give him run support. The Save stat has to go.
