If you'd paid attention to his posting history, Smuler, you'd be aware that he's living in a different century.

No, I am in this century. However, I don't remember the Boston Braves like you do rumps. :D

Jays won their 11th in a row today blasting the visiting Baltimore Orioles by a score of 13-5. Meanwhile, both Boston & the Yankees lost, meaning that the Jays now trail division-leading Boston by only 5 games. Still tied with Tampa, they now trail the Orioles by 3 games & the hated Yankees by ONLY 2 1/2 games!!!!!

What a month of June for baseball's hottest team!!!!!!!! Now off to Tampa!!!!!! Go Jays Go!!!!! :thumb:

Senators- I pictured Frank Howard

He once charged the mound when he was a Met coach, after a player was headhunting at Shea one night

You had to see the horror in the pitcher's eyes as Frank was leading the charge

Best Regards

Smuler

PS- nothing against you daydreamer...

I remember Frank Howard, also, but I remember him on the Minnesota Twins.

   I hear there are great ballgames on the floor of the Senate.

Yes, but what planet are you on. We're on the 3rd Rock. How about you? :D

You actually had to announce you are in this century. :noidea:

Unbelievable. It's like reading a reincarnated Marx bother.

Oh, really Merlot? How many heads do you have? Fractions are okay in your case. :D

How about that Boston Detroit game today? I was gong to call game one a theft of a game until I saw game four of the series.

Rumps - You are right our defense may be a little suspect but as you have seen it has nothing to do with Tory Hunter. I said all last year that Peralta does not hit good enough to play SS. This year Peralta is hitting good enough to make up for his lack of range. Tinkers to Evers to Chance we are not!

The talk is of aquiring Jesse Crain from the White Sox. Apparently he is the set-up man for the Sox and the Tigers will make him their closer. Meanwhile, Valverde goes to AAA Toledo t work through his funk....as if that is possible.

I sure was impressed by Andrew Miller. He looks like he should be the Red Sox Closer. He was a first rounder here and a starter for Detroit the year he was drafted but could never make past the 5th inning.

Thanks for the gift from Boston and the umpires today! Looks like a 5 team race in the East!

Yep, that's what I have been saying for a good while. It's rather incredible since a spread of a maximum of 5 games separate 5 teams and every team is above .500 by at least 2 games.

DD41, didnt some expert have the Yanks written off by June 24th? hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Yeah, he was predicting a team that won 69 games last year would have the season wrapped up by now.

Amazing how his predictions always fall flat, if I am thinking of the expert you are thinking about. ;)

Game four was a theft. Game one was a gift.

Well, you see a lot more of the Bengals than I do, but he sure looked bad this weekend.

Already down to four. The Yankees who operated on smoke and mirrors on the one last gasp of Hafner and Wells through the first month of the season are 13-18 over the last month, rarely scoring over three runs a game. They're now just 2.5 games from the basement.

No wonder they call you daydreamer. I suppose the 41 part stands for 1941, when your Washington Senators went 70-84. Can you point out the post where someone said that the Sox would have the season wrapped up by now? I can recall saying that they'd be competitive, which they are and that the Yankees wouldn't, and they aren't. Two for two. Give my best to Mr. Roosevelt if you see him.

Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports has been talking a lot lately about the return of MLB to Montreal. The other day he interviewed the principal owner of the Tampa Bay Rays. While Sternberg downplayed the possibility of the Rays moving, here's part of the interview that's most relevant here:

FS: Do you think Major League Baseball could work again in Montreal?

SS: Yes. I know it can.

FS: How?

SS: My gut. I was at Olympic Stadium the day after they got Bartolo Colon. I’ve been convinced — this is before I bought the (Rays) — that it would be an incredible place for baseball. That doesn’t mean my baseball team, but a baseball team.

FS: Do you think there will come a day when Montreal has a team again?

SS: In the next five years, no. In the next 20, yes.

FS: An expansion franchise or one that moves there?

SS: I think a franchise (that moves there). I know nothing. There’s no discussions. I don’t see any reason or need or desire for expansion — anytime in the next 10 years, certainly. The stadiums built in the 1990s are 20-year-old stadiums. They’ll be fine for another 20 years. If you look 20 years out, there could be population shifts and separation of corporations. And you need a decent-to-good corporate base to have a successful baseball franchise.

FS: Has the thought ever occurred to you to move your team to Montreal?

SS: I thought about it as a great baseball market. But this is probably three, four years ago. I was asked and pressed about it. I said I could think of seven (viable) places (for relocation). But I’m not looking. I just want to explore my backyard.

My gut says he moves the Rays here within 10 years. Here's the link to the entire interview:

Rumples, i also agree that baseball could work in Montreal once again given the right conditions, having a stadium located downtown for one.....possibly with a retractable roof. I also feel that its best bet would be to host a relocating team. But aren't there any other cities in the USA which could host a viable MLB franchise instead of Montreal? Or is Montreal really the best option MLB would have in case one of its team would need to be moved?

Doc, Montreal is the second largest metropolitan area in the US or Canada without an MLB team. The largest is Riverside/San Bernardino, California, an area that will NEVER see an MLB team as it lies within the protected area of the LA Dodgers and no amount of Joe.T's bookie's money is going to get the Dodgers to allow a team there.

There are a few cities that have gotten teams after the original has moved out and they are all smaller than Montreal (3.8 M). Seattle (3.4 M), Kansas City (2.0 M), Milwaukee (1.5 M) have all gotten a second chance while Washington (5.6 M) is now on their third. The next biggest metropolitan are without a team is Vancouver (2.3) and Portland (2.2).

I like downtown, but I also wonder about the Bluebonnets site, at the junction of the Decarie and Metropolitan Expressways and the Namur Metro Station.

Mark my words, Montreal will have a major league team before the home team skates around the Air Canada Centre with the Stanley Cup.

Really, rumps? What's your drink to get you in this state of mind?

You call the Red Sox competitive and the Yankees not competitive and the 2 teams are 2 1/2 games apart?

LOL. Isn't there something wrong with your picture, rumps? :help:

CCF, thanks for posting the article "The Next MLB City". It was very enlightening & i'm now more pumped up as ever about Montreal's chances of getting a team once again. But most importantly, my thanks for posting a link to a website i had never heard of until now.

I agree that Wang has been a revelation so far. You watch him pitch & you tell yourself "now, that's a guy who knows how to pitch!" Pitching coach Pete Walker told him to add some off-speed stuff to his usual repertoire during his first game in Chicago and he's been tremendous so far. I also cannot understand why he wasn't called up by the Yankees. But who knows, it's quite possible he wouldn't have had the same type of success he's having had he remained in NY.

Another of Walker's star pupils up to date has been Esmil Rogers. Before he was recently promoted to the starting staff, he didn't shine much out of the bullpen and only had 2 pitches. Walker got him to use 2 more pitches in order to mix things up more & so far, that formula has paid off dividends.

p.s. Joe, did you check out the new outfield section (a.k.a. The Budweiser Zone) while at the ballgame? Seems like a lot of fun out there. I was in that section briefly about two weeks ago. That area always seems to be full, though.

What is the Budweiser zone?.

Are you kidding? He looked good against the sox I thought.
I only saw the first two games of the series, but there were a number of plays on which Hunter looked awful. I don't recall specifics, but there was one ball that dropped that he should have caught. There was another, a hit, that he failed to cut off and it got by him to the wall.

The Save stat has to go.
There are a lot of stats that should go. While the Save stat is a somewhat recent development, we're still using a whole bunch of stats that harken back to the 19th century. RBI, for example, is not reflective of a guy's ability to hit, so much as the ability of guys in front of him to get on base. Wins does not reflect a pitcher's ability as much as the ability of his team's ability to give him run support.
