I doubt the Yankees would be able to trade Rivera. My guess is that he'd likely retire instead of reporting to another team.

Little known fact: the Brooklyn Dodgers traded Jackie Robinson to the New York Giants after the 1956 season. He retired.

"December 13, 1956: Traded by the Brooklyn Dodgers to the New York Giants for Dick Littlefield and $30,000. Jackie Robinson refused to report to his new team. Trade was voided and players returned on December 13, 1956." per baseball-reference.com

Um, does the name Daniel Nava ring a bell? Nava deserves to be on the All Star team. You also overlook Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who is having a wonderful season.

Nava nada. (you really have to be joking to think he's an all-star, or an ultra-homer).

Rivera has said it's his last year when 2013 started. He's not going to go to another team to play another year.

I still don't think Nava is an all-star. I still have a hunch he'll be hitting around .260 come all-star break time. You're right about Salty, he's got great hair. And finally, it is true that Farrell has done a fine job with the Red Sox. But the season ain't over yet!

How many votes will his hair get?

And true the season is not 1/2 way done.

Red Sox wrote the book on how to blow a pennant race.

Actually, I think you're referring to Ivan Nada, who was a major league pitcher for a brief period of time before he turned back into a pumpkin.

Rivera has said it's his last year when 2013 started. He's not going to go to another team to play another year.
Wow. Some people even take jokes seriously. Really? Wow.

How many votes will his hair get?
Three more than yours.

FRAUD of the Yankee Fans!

Boyz,

Merlot, certainly a change is necessary. Fortunately, the Sox have internal options in Miller and Tazawa. They can also make a deal. And fortunately, they don't have the light hitting Yankees' problems.

Exactly! I'm not sure who was ready to pitch last night, but using Bailey with a 1-run lead was totally senseless given his recent common failures. Every game he seems to give up 1 or 2 runs. The risk was huge, and so obviously that a flea randomly landing on a list of relievers could have chosen better.

I like Farrell, but his choice was so disturbing because he has been so rational this year. Picking Bailey looked like he was trying to say I'm going against logic to show faith, build his confidence, etc. Bullshit! Never do that at all when the odds are so obviously against it, especially not against a team like the Tigers.

I doubt the Yankees would be able to trade Rivera.

I'm sure Rivera would not let playing for any other team stain his legacy.

Red Sox wrote the book on how to blow a pennant race.

The Yankees wrote the book on how to tank a trip to the world Series after having a 3-0 ALCS lead.

Nava is having a good season so far.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/allstar13/story/_/id/9345388/american-league-all-star-fan-voting

Nava's stats are about the same overall as Jose Bautista, except Nava is hitting .026 BA points better and he's stronger than Jose in RBIs, and OBP. Bautista is 5th in the AL voting. Nava is also performing better than the number 3 and 4 AL outfielder choices Markakis and Hunter.

YANKEE FANS COMMIT FRAUD:

We hear the drone all the time. The Pride and Guts of the Yankees. Now add FRAUD to the list. If anything ever proved the total lack of integrity of Yankees fans it's this years All Star voting. Derek Jeter is currently 5th among voting for shortstops. Jeter you say. Hmmmm, used to be a great SS, had a good hitting year in 2012, he's an MLB icon and a legend. There's just one problem. He hasn't played at all in 2013. Not in one game ...not 1 at bat ...not even a trip to the on deck circle, not even warm-up swings, yet as of June 15, 2013, Jeter has 669,698 votes to play shortstop, proving once and for all Yankee fans are the Ultimate Homers to the point of gross nonsense. It would be hilarious, considering the Yankees lineup is so bad there are only 2 Yankees actually playing listed among the top vote receivers, if voting for Jeter wasn't so incredibly fraudulent.

Maybe all the Yankee fans skipping games this year don't know Jeter is injured OR maybe Yankee fans thought they were voting for the...All Wheelchair Team. OMG!!!

unbelievable NY,

Merlot

After watching the Red Sox play the Tigers for the last two days, I find myself wondering how is Miguel Cabrera only hitting .366?

Two strong teams desperately in need of a closer. It will be very interesting to see how they address the problem. Personally, I'd give the ball to Andrew Miller, before looking outside. Will the Phillies move Papelbon? What would the Sox or Tigers give up to get him, given his already expensive contract? Will the Yankees try to get prospects for Rivera?

I am not sure what the Red Sox situation is but Valverde is the worst guy in the league! He makes me yearn for the days Todd Jones graceed the mound. However, I don't think the Tigers will pay the big bucks for Papelbon.

Fans in Detroit are criticizing Leland for staying so long with Valverde. I think Leland was crazy like a fox. I think he was telling Dombrowski "this is who you give me to close games and this is who I am going to use." This has forced Dombrowski to make a move and upgrade as soon as possible. But I don't think we have the money for Papelbon.

While Valverde is the worst in the history of our sport, the rest of the bullpen is very weak with the exception of Smiley and maybe Bennoit. the bullpen has been horrible.

Last year I posted an article on the Shut Down Melt Down proposed stat for relievers. Today I post another article about the closer. I think the save stat is the worst stat in baseball. Come on guys! The 45 yearold beerbelly coach that throws batting practice could convert half of these saves. All you have to do is get three guys out!

http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/65497/the-flawed-importance-of-the-closer

I wish they would flush the save stat.

I must disagree, hungry. The Tigers bullpen is it's only big flaw. Ownership has shown a willingness to spend in recent years to build a winner. They're not going to let this team go down simply for the lack of a back end guy.

Update: not the only flaw. The defense is a problem as well. Torii Hunter is a shadow of what he used to be in the outfield. The infield is pretty awful.

Is that one of the jokes from your old age home comedy nights? I didn't realize it was a joke.
Of course not. I didn't think you would. You know, in the annals of lame responses, this isn't the lamest I've ever seen, but it does deserve honorable mention.

Defense has not been that bad. Cabrara has been pretty good. Fielder has been poor this year. Yes Hunter is a shadow of his former self but an order of magnitude better than D. Young and he has made some great plays this year.

Aviala's .160ish batting avergae and VMart has had a lot of unVMart like at bats....too many. Still the offense has scored a lot of runs. I think we are the top team in run scoring from innings 1-6 and among the worst team in scoring innings 7-9. last night was the first walk off HR all year.

I hope you are correct and we get Paplebon. I was just going buy what Jim Price and Dan Dickerson were saying on Tigers radio. The truth is we play in a weak division and we should win it regardless. The have time to make a move on a closer. there is no rush. Hopefully Victor Martinez will return to 2011 from.

Oh and I forgot to mention that Phil Coke Sucks as well.
