It basically works out to paying him around $4 million a year.
Actually, it works out to $5 per year, but considering the rest of the foolishness in your post, clearly math isn't your strong suit.

They need some power in the lineup, obviously. Soriano did hit 32 homers last year and played a full year.
You really should finish your sentences. It should read "Soriano did hit 32 homers last year and played a full year, with half of his games in Wrigley Field." He's hit 6 away from Wrigley Field in 2/3 of a season this year. That works out to 18 for the whole year in neutral parks. You know what that equals? Vernon Wells.

If Jeter and A-Rod and Granderson and Cervelli all come back soon, not to mention the fireballing Pineda, a run can still be made.
You left out Gehrig, Lazzeri, Dickey, DiMaggio, Lopat, Page, Reynolds, Bauer, Mantle, Berra, Ruffing and Ford.

Don't you just love hallucinogens? If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle. (Oh, BTW, Pineda isn't doing so well in the minors, but don't let the facts fool you.)

Ruth! Ruth! How could I forget Ruth! Man, if the Yankees could get the Bambino off the DL (that's Dead List), maybe they could make a run for it. Hmm, perhaps you're on to something, Beav.

Hey, how about Reggie?

It looks like the baseball experts absolutely love the acquisition.
Here's what Jay Goldman of The Pinstriped Bible and Baseball Prospectus thinks. (Note that he's part of the real world, not Joe's Bizarro Universe:

"The bottom line is that Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer finally rid themselves of an embarrassing contract held over from the failed Jim Hendry administration (Hendry is now a special assistant to Brian Cashman; make of that what you will) and will get a live arm in return. The Yankees get an injection of badly-needed power and stand little chance of having made another Ken Phelps-Jay Buhner trade. Given how bad their offense has been (Eduardo Nunez is now a No. 5 hitter? Really?), they had to try something, though this move alone has exactly zero chance of solving their problems or even ameliorating them to a significant degree. You could argue that, given the current trajectory of their season that if this was the best the Yankees could do, maybe they shouldn't bother doing it.

A team 2.5 games out of the second wild-card playoff spot, even a weak one, has something worth pursuing, but there's a limit to (a) how many resources it should put towards that goal and (b) how many opportunities it might forego to improve itself in that pursuit. In other words, the Yankees might have more to gain by selling than adding at this point, especially if selling might bring a hitter of any age who has more of an ability to reach base than Soriano does. After all, he may homer with more regularity than the Yankees have experienced to this point, but he can't drive in runners that aren't there."

Yankees poised to sign former infielder Bucky Dent

by Gary Franks, New York Examiner

NEW YORK - According to a Yankees insider, they are expected to announce the signing of retired infielder Russell "Bucky" Dent, who once starred for the New York team three decades ago.

Dent, 61, retired 1984 as a Kansas City Royal. However, he admitted to always having regretted not retiring as a Yankee. This time, he hopes that his wish will be granted.

After retiring, Dent acted in various coaching capacities in both the minors and at the major league level. He was released by the Cincinnati Reds six years ago and hasn't been back to coaching since.

Dent is expected to relieve the infielders whenever they have a game off. He feels he can still hit at the major league level and the Yankees have shown no indication to having him start his comeback at the minor league level.

"Bucky is expected to step right into the lineup and his addition will be welcomed by many around the organization", said a nameless Yankee insider. "His leadership & experience will give the younger players on this team a boost."

Dent retired with a career .247 batting average and 423 runs batted in.

"I'll do whatever manager Joe Girardi wants me to do in order to help the team", Dent told the New York Examiner. "I was told i'd be playing a bit of third base, shortstop and second base. Heck, if they want me to pitch, i'll pitch!", joked the former Yankee.

Yankees management has indicated that Dent will likely join the team on the west coast for their upcoming series against the San Diego Padres.

And so tonight, it starts, the beginning of the end, the downhill spiral, another collapse has begun about 6 weeks earlier than normal, yes folks, the red sox have slipped out of first after holding down that spot for almost 9 weeks....

The red sox free fall is getting to you deeply i see....Bwhahahaahahaahahahaah good job "sox"
Actually, the Sox aren't doing badly at all. Just took 2-3 from the light hitting Yankees. I realize that you don't know much about baseball, so let me explain something to you. When a team wins 20 out of 23, there's not much you can do except tip your hat to them.

Let me explain freefall to you now: New York Yankees. In their run to last place, the light hitting Yankees are 24-30 over the last two months. And now the schedule gets tougher.

So whaddya think, with the Yankees now closer to last than first, how much longer do you think it will take for them to hit the bottom? I say August 10.

Oh, nice job by the corpse of Alfonso Soriano to earn the maxi-collar, even killing a rally by popping up with the bases loaded. "We're not in Wrigley any more, Toto." As you say, iggy, "Bwhahahaahahaahahahaah good job"

5 innings
9 hits
7 earned runs

twice. first to the Red Sox. then the Rays. Cheeseburger Cheeseburger Sabathia has allowed 22 runs on 26 hits over 14 innings in his last three starts...against the two teams he most had to beat and the pitiful Minnesota Twins.

Extreme Suckitude.

DFA time?

Maybe when Bucky Dent reports in uniform, things will get better.

Don't let that rock hit you on the head too many times rumples, you're already delusional enough, I would hate to see what another bump on the head would do to your thinking.

Let me chime in.....

I also wouldn't be surprised to see the Red Sox wind up in third place, considering how good the Rays & Orioles are playing.

As for the Yankees winding up in last place, i'm not so certain about this. You never know what the addition of a Bucky Dent can do to a struggling ballclub. He'll be like a player-coach out there & will be a good asset for the younger players on the club to have around.

And then there's A-Rod.....if the Yankees let him play, of course.

Not at all, at least they still have a shot even with all the injuries they have had, something the red sox never had a chance at when they had all their injuries last season. How about NOVA! he is finally back in form and pitching better than ever, the future looks bright for Super Nova.

Entire Yankee Team = DFA, the fans demand it. ;) Goddamn, they sure are f'n awful. What an embarrassment to the city of NY!!

They have a shot? In what universe? I love your obsession with last season...Typical Leaf fan always living in the past, the way past. Lol. How about if the Yanks make the playoffs I'll get you an hour with Hannah at GG and when they're mathematically eliminated you do the same for me? ;)

Shot? Shot? The only shot the Yankees have is in A-Rod's behind.

Shot. What the fuck are you smoking, son?

reality and FACTS.
Iggy, you wouldn't recognize a fact if one fell out of a tree and hit you on the head.

Actually, iggy, the injuries the Yankees have had this season don't compare to those suffered by the Sox last year when you consider percentage of payroll.

In fact, yes a word you still don't understand, the team that the Yankees are still putting on the field to fail today has the fourth highest payroll in the major leagues at $147,776,000, even with the injuries. At almost $150 million, the Yankees, $20 million more than the active roster of the Red Sox, suck mightily.

How about NOVA! he is finally back in form and pitching better than ever, the future looks bright for Super Nova.
How about Sabathia? Wouldn't you rather talk about the corpse of CC Sabathia?
How about Pettitte? Wouldn't you rather talk about the corpse of Andy Pettitte?

I don't think there's any doubt now that David Ortiz is on steroids & should be banned by MLB immediately.

For a second, i thought Dustin Pedroia was gonna clock him one!

Pedroia probably told him something like "What are you doing, you big goof? Do you want to give MLB more ammunition against you in their case to prove that you've been using steroids all these years?"
