Could it be the secret weapon Mrazek ??? You want a goalie who as played a lot to start the playoffs . What made tokarsky great last year is that he played all season in the minor league and also that what made him horrible this year , low volume of games . A goalie to be great as to see a lot of rubber and minutes !

Congratulations to the Red Wings in making 24 consecutive seasons in the playoffs. All I can say is WOW.

As I said before, start Mrazek. Just look at Ottawa with Hammond.

Ouch! Shanny a'int screwing around anymore, Nonis and Horachek fired! He did not even wait until Monday lol...This Shanny guy might just be a good fit in the Centre of the Hockey Universe afterall.

Hmmmmmmm, Mike Babcock for GM and Coach? He does want power on player decisions as the rumor goes. Give Babs total control (GM) and make him the highest paid coach in the NHL and they might just get him.

I think that Toronto will throw everything at Babs to try and get him, year one of the Babs era starting next year in Toronto(My prediction).

My sincere condolences. I know you were a huge Burke and Nonis fan and truly loved every single move they made. It's also sad to see the great Peter Horachek given his walking papers.

But to at least slightly interject some positivity on this terribly negative day, at least the Leafs will be paying Nonis for another 2 years.:thumb:

BTW, it wasn't just Nonis and Horachek, it was also Steve Spott and several others including scouts.

BOYZ!

BRUINS - OUT!!! So this is what it feels like to miss the playoffs.

Unlike Toronto fans habit of swarming for golf reservations Bruins fans are in full question mode. Healthy they have not been at the same level of skills with the loss of Boychuk, Iginla and more regardless of anything else, and they have had too many injuries, especially with the loss of David Krejci. With their inability to score adequately, their extremely poor overtime performances, and their loss of ability to physically dominate a game as often as they had in the past the hand writing has been on the wall for a long time. There were so many streaks where they looked almost lifeless and plain bad. Still, when it comes to whether Julien or Chiarelli people should be careful not to get carried away. It took money to get the right players to win it all in 2011, now some want to say the leadership used the cap space badly and they should be fired for that. You can't have it both ways. Sure some got more than they should have. That happens everywhere, just look at how much Toronto has spilled into individuals for another year of early links reservations. But don't run for panic mode now.

The Jacobs, Neely, and Sinden have to be careful how they evaluate the situation and players if they don't want to end up being a perennial April greens team.

always faithful,

Merlot

Not only did Shanahan fire the coach & gm, he nearly fired the entire organization!

He fired his coach, the assistant coaches, the gm, the director of player development, the chief scout and only Steve Staois, Kyle Dubas & Mark Hunter were allowed to keep their jobs. In other words, he fired everyone who was hired prior to his arrival.

Buffalo also fired Ted Nolan, and it's only a matter of time in my opinion until we hear that Boston fired Peter Chiarelli and Claude Julien, SJ fires their head coach and possibly also GM Doug Wilson, and the Pens likely fire coach Mike Johnston once they get eliminated by the future Stanley Cup winners in the first round. I also expect Philly to fire Craig Berube.

There's even word that Michel Therrien may get fired should the habs get knocked out by the Senators, even with the contract extension he was given at the end of last season. Personally, i doubt this will happen. It's not his fault that GM Marc Bergevin totally failed in upgrading his offense at the trade deadline. The coach is basically stuck with coaching players his GM give him.

Detroit will likely also be looking for a coach once they get eliminated by the Tampa Bay Lightning. I'm picking Tampa in six.

So which top coaching candidates will likely be on the market?

1) Mike Babcock
2) Dan Bylsema
3) Claude Julien
4) Todd McLellan
5) Peter DeBoer
6) Randy Carlyle
7) Paul MacLean
8) Mike Johnston
9) Craig Berube
10) Ted Nolan

Wildcards: Mike Keenan and Ron Wilson

The Leafs no doubt have been gunning for Babcock since the end of last season. But word out of Buffalo is that he'll be Buffalo's #1 choice to coach the team and owner Terrence Pegula will try to overbid anyone else for his services. The Flyers may also decide to go after him should they chose to fire Craig Berube, which is what i expect to happen in the very near future.

Do you know what these current Leafs would need for one season? Mike Keenan. He wouldn't put up with the primadonnas on the team & if they wouldn't want to play his way, he'd immediately get rid of them. And whenever Bernier or Reimer would let in a soft goal or make a stupid play (like we saw Saturday night), he'd yank 'em and nail 'em to the bench.

I would love to see Therrien gone if this happened but sadly, I highly doubt it would.

I've been hearing all year that Ed Snider will supposedly offer up to 7 million a year to Babcock but personally I'd bet he'll stay in Detroit and become the highest paid coach in the NHL at around 4 million a year.
