I hope Chicago takes the series in 4, it wont happen but would be nice. Patrick Kane would send his over inflated ego into high gear and take on every cabbie in buffalo instead of just that one guy. I can see it now "do you bums know who i am, I have multiple stanley cup rings, i own you and buffalo, i am bigger than terry and kim pegula and oh yea, the sabres suck!"

Go Chicago! :thumb:

Hello Hockey Fans,

I was told by very reliable sources that Bruins upper management have decided to replace all of coach Claude Julien's coaching staff and will hire their own guys.

"FRAUD ALERT" indeed.

I just heard on WEEI while driving that "Bruin's coach Claude Julien and all of his coaching staff will be behind the bench next season". I'm looking for official confirmation.

AHA, here it is.

Claude Julien to return as Bruins coach

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=769953

BUFFALO -- Claude Julien and his staff will return to the Boston Bruins for the 2015-16 season general manager Don Sweeney said Friday at the 2015 NHL Draft Combine.

"[Julien has] got great accountability, structure, he's had a lot of success," Sweeney said. "He's a veteran coach that I'm going to look forward to learning from as I say in my new role. He communicated to me that they had already been thinking of some of the changes I had spoken about and he was looking forward to attacking that and clearly that's going to revolve around some roster decisions as well. I think it's all of the above and I'm going to lean on those guys, see what they bring to the table and I'm hoping it's the other way around. And that was part of it for me to make sure that they knew that my voice was going to be heard and respected in that regard."

There was a question whether Julien would remain when former GM Peter Chiarelli was fired on April 15 and replaced by Sweeney.

"This is a new role for me. It's my first opportunity to talk with coaches as a general manager," Sweeney said. "I'm not going to apologize for taking a little time to go through that process, to be honest with you. I think it was right for me to do that. I've been completely respectful of their success and I'm going to use that to my advantage because they've been part of a group and they work hard and I'm going to look forward to enjoying it."

Julien has coached the Bruins for eight seasons and is currently the longest-tenured coach with one team in the League. He won the Stanley Cup in 2011 and the Eastern Conference Championship in 2013. The Bruins missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season for the first time under Julien in Boston. Julien is 351-192-79 in his career with the Bruins.

"There was certainly some adversity," Sweeney said regarding missing the playoffs. "There [were] some roster changes that had occurred over the last couple of years. We'd kept a group together that had a tremendous amount of success and each one of them should be proud of all that success, but we do have to move a little bit in a different direction and we're at a bit of a crossroads in that regard. They were anxious to know how their sort of coaching philosophies in what they addressed felt had to be changed and how that was going to be received by me and vice versa."

Sweeny said there are still decisions to be made, which he will discuss with the coaching staff.

"We have some decisions to make still internally and we have to do that with the dates coming up and we'll be exploring every option to improve the hockey club," Sweeney said. "That's really what I told [the coaches] and they'll have input in terms of the guys that they think can continue to do things that they like to do as well as the things that we need to do going forward."

As a number of people have been pointing out, without my interference, Doc needs to stop pretending he's an insider. His poor record shows NOT AT ALL.

All that stuff about Julien being hated that info pretenders have been asserting ad nauseum has just been proven to be pure crap. That a coach of a team that didn't make the playoff could survive proves exactly the opposite. If ever a GM wanted to get rid of someone he didn't like this would have been the chance.

However, Babcock won me over during his interviews after being hired by the greatest hockey franchise in the planet.

It's call a Fanboy Flip...or...Koolaid Drunk.

Cheers,

Merlot

Let me make a bold prediction:

CLAUDE JULIEN WILL BE THE FIRST NHL COACH FIRED THIS SEASON.

It's a no-brainer. Cam Neely hates his guts, Don Sweeney was hired as GM because he told them he had no allegiance to Julien, and the only reason why he wasn't fired....which is actually widely known among those close to the Bruins....is because one of the cheapest owners in professional sports (the Jacobs family) refused to allow his firing while he was still being paid by the team for another couple of years.

It would appear that Malkin is unhappy in Pitt and a trade could happen this summer.... Doc, have you heard anything from your sources that are "in the know" (behave Smuler)

A month or so ago, two of my sources mentioned they were hearing that Malkin could very well be traded during the offseason. There were whispers that Crosby could be the one, but those whispers disappeared during the World Championships since Crosby played great playing with the likes of Claude Giroux and others.

The main reason why one of them could be moved is salary. Both of them make huge $$ and since the team isn't really going anywhere, changes are needed and getting rid of a big salary like Malkin's would do wonders in helping make changes on their roster for next season.

However, there are not that many teams who would be willing to take on such a big contract. However, insiders have also told me that Malkin has played at his best when Crosby was out injured.

It will take a lot in order to get Malkin out of Pittsburgh. That's another reason why not many teams could be considered suitors for him. Not many teams have the players and picks available for the Penguins to agree to trade Malkin.

As of today, i'd put the chances at 50/50.

p.s. Another strong rumour making the circles is that Bruce Boudreau will be fired by Anaheim after being at odds with GM Bob Murray for a good part of the season.

Imagine Kessel playing on a line with Crosby! The guy has never had a true #1 centre to play with but Phil would likely net 50 goals next season if that were to happen. Love "The Thrill" but would take one of the leagues top centres over him anyday as long as it does not involve the #4 pick in this years draft going to Pitt. The #24 pick could be had however, and another piece or two.

My sources have confirmed to me that there has been a lot of interest growing for Kessel over the past month, and that interest increases on a daily basis. The offers are getting better, and it's now entirely possible that he'll be traded prior to the draft. Believe it or not, but Montreal is reportedly one of the teams interested. If the offer is right, i see no problem in Kessel being traded to an eastern conference team. But it's a different story for Malkin. There's a lot of doubt the Pens would trade him to an eastern conference team.

My sources haven't heard much in regards to Dion Phaneuf. The reason for this may be that he may no longer be on the market due to Mike Babcock's arrival and the fact it's widely known Babcock (and Ken Holland) have been big Phaneuf fans over the past few years. They nearly traded prospect Anthony Mantha to the Leafs as part of a package for Phaneuf at the trade deadline. Holland finally balked at trading Mantha and offered somebody else the Leafs didn't want. If it were up to Red Wings executive Jim Devellano, Mantha wouldn't be with the Red Wings organization right now. He's no fan of Mantha's and has been rather open about it.

It should be interesting by draft time and i'm seriously considering attending the draft this year, which will be held in Sunrise, Florida.

Red Wings hire Jeff Blashill

As i predicted the day the Leafs signed the great Mike Babcock, the Red Wings shocked no one by going cheap and hiring their farm team coach, Jeff Blashill.

Red Wings hire Jeff Blashill

As i predicted the day the Leafs signed the great Mike Babcock, the Red Wings shocked no one by going cheap and hiring their farm team coach, Jeff Blashill.

Congratulations on predicting this on May 20, 2015...but people who follow hockey predicted it a year before that.

Since you seem to be unaware, please allow me to explain that it was ALWAYS in the works that Blashill would be the next coach after Babcock. That is just one of the many reasons why Kenny ALLOWED other teams to talk to Babs but REFUSED them permission to talk to Blashill. It has been known for a LONG time that Jeff is the future of the Wings...and it became increasingly clear over a year ago.

But congratulations on your "prediction" on May 20, 2015.

BTW, it has nothing to do with what you rudely and very inaccurately refer to as being "cheap" - it has to do with finding the right fit and finding a winner. Maybe your "sources" (sic) can do a little research and feed you Blashill's resumé!

Then again, maybe any team that doesn't throw away its money ($35 million on David Clarkson, an equivalent amount on Nathan "Never Again" Horton, $64 million on Phil "King of Plus-Minus" Kessel, $50 + million on the pylon, plus God knows how much on buyouts like Komi, Grabo, Darcy Freakin' Tucker, and on and on and on...) is - in YOUR opinion - "cheap". Are they still paying Randy? Nonis? Ha ha ha.

Congratulation to the Wings for signing Jeff Blashill. On a side note, a little over a year ago,

Blashill was told by Holland that five teams were interested in interviewing him for a coaching job

and that he was free to talk to anyone of them. Blashill replied that he was happy to stay within

the Red Wings organization. Smart move, Mr. Jeff Blashill.

I say that Mr.Blashill will make the playoffs this coming year while Mr. Babcock will not.

Blashill sounds just like Babs and has similar mannerisms. It's a little disconcerting. He'll be a worthy successor.

Blashill had the benefit of 4 years of close everyday interactions with Babs, and he benefited, just like how Babs benefited from being able to pick Scotty Bowman's brain whenever he wanted his first few years in Detroit, before Scotty decided to join his son Stan in Chicago. Organizational excellence, it's how the Red Wings do. :thumb:

On a separate note, the local Detroit press has started publishing some stories and attaching blame for bad FA and prospect moves in recent years to Babs, like signing Dan Cleary and losing Andrej Nestrasil. Poor form, as far as I'm concerned. Babs was great, move on. I suggest the same for all! Let's celebrate getting a great young coach. Looking forward to next year. The Wings were pretty damn good this year, considering how far Tampa has gone and has looked in these playoffs, and keeping in mind we didn't have our top D-man for Game 7.
