This is EXACTLY what the Leafs are banking on, duh. (Get it? the Leafs have more money than any team and are loving the Clarkson cap it is now off the books, meanwhile as long as Horton is on IR, his cap does NOT count against them)

You really think they traded Clarkson because they hope Horton can ever be a shell of his former self again, really? Wow, you are slipping my buddy
Yes, as an example the Leafs even traded their savior David Clarkson when "the right offer" came along - "the right offer" of course being Nathan "Never Again" Horton.

DUH...I KNOW why they traded Clarkson. It was because...like just about every other Leaf...he was a total failure despite his long-term $35 million dollar contract.

Just ONE of the many reasons why the Leafs have sucked for 48 years...and will continue to suck.

They're currently desperately trying to unload other horrible contracts for players that led them into the pits; namely Kessel, Phaneuf, Lupul and Bozak.

Why on earth would it scare me? It makes me LAUGH, like everything the Leafs have done for their close to half a century of unprecedented, epic, humiliating failure.

I always give credit where it's due and I've therefore always praised the Leafs for providing the absolute best comedy on the planet, bar none:thumb:

And, to be fair, their FANS also deserve full credit for always believing the fairy tales Leaf management tells them. Great, great, TRULY great entertainment:thumb:

That's MISTER Cairo to you.

P.S. Too bad that your trip to Italy became impossible. Please accept my condolences.

In other news, what are the odd's that the rouge wings will win the cup anytime soon? "Not Pretty"

http://www.freep.com/story/sports/nhl/red-wings/2015/06/16/red-wings-stanley-cup-odds/28810441/

I was thinking that the Leafs would be the worst and Auston Matthews might be a reality next June as the #1 pick of the Blue and White but dammit, Babs will not have the Leafs be that bad in year one, as the good Doctor has predicted.

Thanks for the link. According to the story, the Wings are TWICE as likely as the Leafs to win the Cup next year (33-1 for the Wings, 66-1 for the Leafs).

Since I can understand math, I think the "odd's" (sic) are that it will be before the Leafs. Then again, the Leafs DID manage to win a Cup a mere 48 years ago, and they DID manage to make the playoffs ONCE in the past decade, and they DID finish higher than THREE (!!!) other teams in the 14-15 season, and they DO plan to get rid of all their remaining "saviors" (ha ha) if they can find anyone willing to take them.

Poor Babs! Poor Shanny! But most of all: poor Long-suffering Leaf fans...with STILL no hope for another Cup in their lifetime.

Hey, here's an idea: Maybe the Leafs should hire A-Rod as their GM (after all, they STILL don't have one)...and maybe he can teach them how to CHEAT their way to victory. It's probably their only hope.

St-Louis should be quite active on the trade market leading to the draft. They have an over-abundance of centers and several of them are in play, among them David Backes. Signing Paul Stastny to that big contract was a mistake and they'd get rid of them if they'd find a suitor, which is unlikely to happen.

The Islanders are also rumoured to be shopping around Kyle Okposo, which is surprising. The habs will also be busy in trying to unload the likes of Plekanec, Eller, Desharnais and Markov. I'm hearing that Brandon Prust may be traded if someone wants him. Players playing the same role as he is with the habs are being pushed away from today's NHL and aren't used much in the playoffs. Detroit is also looking for a defenceman, and Buffalo looking for a #1 goalie, just like Edmonton. Word is that Sharks goalie Antii Niemi is being considered for the Edmonton job.

Oilers clean house, fire top 4 scouts less than a week prior to entry draft

Peter Chiarelli fired 4 scouts including the Oilers' professional scouting director and the team's amateur scouting director, less than a week prior to the draft.

This move is surprising considering its timing. Morey Gare and Stu McGregor are the top two scouts fired. It's just like if Marc Bergevin would fire Trevor Timmins one week prior to the draft.

Why would they fire such scouts who got them McDavid, RNH, Taylor Hall, Yakapov and Eberle?

........................

Maybe they wanted to draft Eichel.....or vice-versa. ;)

It's too bad the draft is that far away. I might have wanted to attend it this year if it was held a bit closer.

I was going to make a different comment but at the last minute figured out the sarcasm. .. Still a little early for me. The scouts they had were useless and should not have been on the payroll, I am sure Chiarelli knows what is needed and who he would like to get... Finally have a feeling that the oil will not be near the bottom next season...

I agree with you, STN. But i'm still very surprised at the timing of the firings.

In other news, the Bruins will try to re-sign Dougie Hamilton prior to July 1st. He's RFA on that date and they fear some teams may sign him to an offer sheet. They've also mentionned that they have their doubts about Carl Soderberg, Matt Bartkowski and Adam McQuaid returning.

The bRuins decline will continue next season and beyond, hopefully.
