I put on a tin foil hat before bed last night and here's what my "sources" told me while I slept:

The Leafs have contacted the eight teams on Phil Kessel's list and obviously none were in the least bit interested.

They are now asking Kessel to include Carolina as a trade destination since the only offer they've received is a one for one deal involving Alex Semin with the Leafs retaining 3 million per year.

They've also hit a wall regarding Dion Phaneuf. So far the best offer is from the Kings who are willing to trade Mike Richards if the Leafs retain 2 million is salary.

Remember you "heard" it here first.

Are you sure that was not another type of hat ;) Just saying because if you really think Kess and Dion can fetch "only" what you suggest, then you really are pretty far out to lunch mon ami.

You will be surprised what the Leafs will get for each IF they are indeed traded. I have a feeling Kessel will be traded but not Dion but if it is a good trade for the TEAM then i will support any trades management decides.

Was listening to tsn 690 recently and you should hear how many canadian fans would LOVE Kessel on the team. Finally you would have a pure sniper and just what you need, but it AIN"T happening :D

The NHL has just announced that their salary cap will be $71.4 million next season. The floor will be $52.8 million.

I've also just learned from a source that the regular season schedule will be likely come out by the end of the week, possibly as soon as Thursday.

first game montreal vs Toronto October 7 according to my source

My sources tell me that the Leafs have made many, many bad management decisions in the past half century.

My sources say that bad trades, ridiculous contracts and wretched scouting have caused the Leafs to suffer 48 YEARS of complete and uninterrupted failure, as "savior" after "savior" has turned out to be FAILURE after FAILURE.

My sources say that Leaf ownership is very lucky that its gullible fans have not only accepted every boneheaded move - they have actually supported and PRAISED these moves...at least until their dreams were inevitably SQUASHED again and again and again.

My sources say that there is STILL no hope for this laughable sad sack of a franchise, which has repeatedly been named the absolute worst in ALL North American sports, not just hockey!

My sources tell me that - as usual - ZERO Leafs are nominated for any of the NHL awards that will be given out tonight.

My sources tell me some of the absolute worst Leaf moves of recent years were the contracts of Burke, Nonis, Kessel, Phaneuf, Clarkson (ha ha ha), Lupul, Bozak, Komi....but my sources say that really EVERYTHING touched by the Leafs turns into failure so it doesn't much matter anyway.

Chara should fetch a 3rd or 4th round pick "IF" the bruins pay half his salary as well. He is about washed up these days and a shell of his former self.

In other words, he's the perfect pick up for the Leafs! Hahaha.

I don't think so SK. Even an aging Chara is WAY too good for the Leafs. It seems they prefer D-men with no skating ability and no guts. It's possible that sometimes they prefer their "captains" to be like that also.

Another excellent point Mr. Cairo :amen:

Already expecting another typically unsuccessful season for the Leafs? ;) LOL.

Like i said, if it means landing Auston Matthews, I am all for it! A rebuild the way the Leafs are going about it takes time so even tho we have the best coach on the planet, i do not expect the playoffs next season but hey, ya never know.

Makes sense: after all why should next season be any different than EVERY complete season in the past decade? (Yes, I know the Leafs actually managed to make the playoffs ONCE in the past decade but that was in a shortened season...before they could stage their annual gutless collapse).

Congrats to Two Very Deserving Winners

The great Patrice Bergeron won his third Selke. Only Bob Gainey with four has ever won more...but Patrice isn't finished yet. Great stuff!

Also, the great Steve Yzerman, not only a Hall of Fame player and one of the best and most courageous of all time but also one of the most brilliant hockey minds ever, won a long-overdue award as Best GM.

Congratulations to two great, gutsy and superbly talented individuals - both among the all-time cream of the crop in the hockey world.

halak or price ? final answer last night

For me, there was never any debate. Price was the 5th overall pick just a few years earlier and there's no way the habs would have got rid of him, especially when drafting a goalie that high was considered quite a gamble.

Halak was extremely popular with the fan base. But he came out of nowhere in his final season with the habs and stole a couple of series for the team with his brilliant goaltending. But he was older than Price, not rated as highly and smaller, meaning riskier for injury. Trading him instead of Price was a no-brainer.

But i was surprised that they traded him that soon (as soon as the season ended) and only got an unknown player named Lars Eller for him. The habs could have been more patient and likely could have got more for him. I still remember the reaction of many GM's around the league at the time saying that they hadn't even been approached about Halak and would surely have offered a better package in return for him.
