Toronto Maple Leafs and the Theme of Consistency

The Leafs have certainly been consistent with their lack of success for the past 48 years - not a single Cup, not a single appearance in the finals, one lonely little individual award of any significance (to Little Dougie Gilmour a couple of decades ago). In short, they've been consistently awful.

Where they have been inconsistent, however, is in their dealings with players. We've seen the absolutely ridiculous contracts that Leaf management BELCHED up to characters like Phaneuf, Kessel, Clarkson, Komisarek, etc. (not to mention Horton) - contracts that effectively KILLED any potential (remote though it might be) for success, contracts SO wretched that they forced the Leafs to blow everything up and start all over from scratch.

Now, they're fighting to get Bernier to take a pay cut. In itself, this is not that laughable, since Tie Game Bernier is not exactly what you'd call an elite goaltender. To give him some credit, though, he and Reimer were the main reasons that this hopelessly inept squad was able to win even SOME games in the last few years. Toronto was badly outplayed almost ALL the time but the goalies were sometimes able to save the bacon. Meanwhile, someone like KADRI - who just had the worst season of his career, who was suspended by his own team, and who with good reason was publicly criticized by Shanny - received a 33% raise (from 3 to 4 million per year). Not exactly CONSISTENT if you compare the Kadri situation to the Bernier one. The Leafs continue to be a complete embarrassment to the sport and to the nation.

Having said all that, believe me: Bernier is the LAST person I would ever choose for "Jeopardy". How's his general knowledge, you ask? Two words: Nelson Mandela.

Lol! Joelcairo you are on fire. That was a good post.

He's always on fire. Have you ever seen him smile? Have you ever felt he was a happy person?

He's the most miserable person on the boards. But his constant negativity is why he's so endearing to us. :D

I was told Bruins forward Brad Marchand was partying it up in Montreal this past weekend and totally made an ass of himself. He spent the weekend pissed drunk and making a fool of himself in public.

Tyler Seguin and Michael Del Zotto were also in town partying since one of their buddies was having his bachelor party. Nothing to report yet.

If I had hockey player money I think I would be in the news a lot during the off season for the same reasons.

Having a lot of money doesn't mean that you have to act like an asshole when in public. Especially when you're well known.

I was told by sources that he spent the weekend at other clubs not even wearing a shirt. He probably spent the weekend in the same clothing since he looks like someone who may have a problem with the bottle, which isn't unusual with hockey players who have all this spare time on their hands.

If the Bruins ever wanted an excuse to trade him, now's their chance. That's what they did with Tyler Seguin and Marchand's doesn't have 1% of Seguin's talent.

People let loose and as always alcohol turns many into assholes. Not sure if it was a separate incident but not newsworthy if it was. A bunch of millionaire kids meet for a bachelor party you gotta expect someone to act up.

I don't think Marchand was in town for a bachelor party. He was simply in Mtl for partying purposes. Seguin and Del Zotto were indeed in town for the same bachelor party and were seen at different bars than Seguin. From all reports, they behaved themselves when in public.

News flash to Holliday: Even if you repeat the same BS 1000 times, it doesn't make it true.

There's exactly one person on this board who falls for your crap - namely your adoring little disciple. Unfortunately, he doesn't add any credibility to your case since he's the same character who has been falling for all the Leaf BS over the years, lapping up every false promise like a cheerful little puppy: incapable of logical analysis but VERY, VERY loyal to his team and his idol.

Habs re-sign Galchenyuk for $5.6 million/2 years

Draft bust Alexander Galchenyuk just robbed the habs by signing a two-year deal worth $5.6 million. That's about $2 million more than he's worth.

Marc Bergevin and the habs got fleeced again!!!! :D

Sure, Kadri has struggled also. But he wasn't the 3rd-overall pick. Throughout the season and playoffs, most of the Mtl media agreed with me, by the way. Much more was expected from Galchenyuk at this point in his career. He's no longer a rookie, he's been in the league for 3 seasons and hasn't progressed much. In other words: HE SUCKS!!!!
