For old times sake, Boustan and a Guinness on that?

How about a Boucan and a Guinness?

The Yankees have won 15 in a row against Toronto in the Bronx. It must be because they suck? What does that say about Toronto?

Luck, that an Beurley is waaaaaaay overrated this season. Whoever petitions for that fool to start or even compete in the All Star Game should have their head examined and just hand home field advantage over to the NL!

In an earlier post when Buehrle was 10-1, I had Buehrle coming into the All Star game after Tanaka and then Darvish. I see him slipping off the roster altogether now that he has lost 3 starts in a row.

On YES the past 2 nights, Paul O'Neill repeatedly questioned whether Toronto can/would stay in first place for the balance of the season. It would not have happened had Buehrle not gone 10-1 and there is no way he is going 10-1 in the second half, it will more likely be 5-7 or something like that. Another thing O'Neill mentioned is that the BJs are overly reliant on the home run ball from streaky hitters who are prone to slumps. They do not have a balanced team capable of manufacturing runs when needed, and therefore are prone to getting shut down by good pitching. I believe they were shutout in 3 of 4 games last week in one stretch of poor play, something that backs up what O'Neill was saying.

If we're talking about the same player, Buehrle has actually pitched great all season long & his stats prove it. He's having the best season in his career so far. He's been snake-bitten in his last 3 starts & should have won 12-13 games by now if his team's offense hadn't went dry in the past two weeks. He was the first AL pitcher to get 10 wins this season & his ERA is only 2.32.

Last night, he pitched very well. He only allowed 6 hits & 2 earned runs in 6 innings of work. He allowed 2 walks & had 4 strikeouts.

But the younger Tanaka has admittedly been a slightly better pitcher this season, even though he hasn't had much run support all season long. He pitched great against Toronto on Tuesday, but he faced the Jays at the right time since their bats have gone dead lately, except for Bautista's.

YOU'VE HEARD IT HERE FIRST:

THE JAYS WILL BREAK THAT AWFUL LOSING STREAK AT YANKEE STADIUM TONIGHT AND WILL LEAVE NY VICTORIOUS!!! :thumb:

The Blue Jays have not come close to getting Brett Gardner out in this series. He would have been 5 for 5 last night but he lined out the last at bat. Off the wall his first at bat tonight. I don't know who on the BJs is responsible for the scouting report on Gardner but they need to tear it up. Gardner is a good hitter but there is a way to get him out and I have seen what it is. The Blue Jays are not too swift. Maybe I am being kind.

No Fly Zone in NYC for Blue Jays

There continues to be a no fly zone in the Bronx for the Blue Jays, who were swept by the Yankees and have now lost 16 in a row at Yankee Stadium. Yankees now just 1.5 games back and looks like Blue Jays may not be in 1st place much longer.

3 run walk off homer for Carlos on a 3-1, 96 mph fastball from Britton! Jacked it!

Girardi let off the hook by bringing in David Huff in the top of the 9th inning, a rare blunder by Girardi. Huff sucks moose balls, and when you give a guy like that a chance to suck in a big spot, he always will.

Joba is alive and well in Detroit. The Ex-Yankee has been lights out with a nearly unhittable slider and 93-94 MPH fastball (not including the one slider he threw to Big Poppy).

Jose Iglesias the ex-Red Sox will sit the season due to stress fractures in both legs. This has really hurt the Tigers as building a better defense and adding team speed was considered the key to winning this year.

Victor Martinez has been tearing it up at DH and the wavier wire pick up DJ Martinez who was released by the Astros is our hottest hitter.

Ex-Blue Jay Raja Davis had a great couple of months but has cooled off in June proving you can't steal 1st base.

The Bullpen as of last week had the highest ERA in the MLB at .477. Dead Arm Joe Nathan may have finally turned the corner, striking out the side in a save vs KC yesterday and striking out 2 of 3 vs the Indians tonight.

Verlander has been awful In June. Opponents are batting about .320 the third time through the orders. Max Scherzer has been hit pretty hard as well. Uncharacteristic for both. Meanwhile Annabelle Sanchez has been steady.

And of course there is miggy.

hungry101,

I always thought Joba Chamberlain would eventually become a closer. Chercherfemmes thought when he became a free agent someone would sign him as a starting pitcher but I never saw that happening. His most effective use is as a bullpen pitcher and although he is now set-up man for the Tigers I can envision him stepping in as a closer very soon. He has closer stuff and closer makeup.

It was the Yankees who developed him into what he now is.

Vidal Nuno

The only guy in the Yankees' patchwork rotation who is not pitching decently or better is Vidal Nuno. He looked good in limited duty last year but has been a disappointment so far. Best pitch is his changeup. He is crafty but does not throw hard. He gets the start today.

In looking at his stats, he is on pace to give up nearly 40 homers over a full season. Most of the runs he is allowing are coming on homers. What can Rothschild do with this guy to work towards keeping the ball in the park?

It's a real problem because homers and runs are down almost 20% across baseball as PED testing and penalties/suspensions are finally taking their toll on offensive production across MLB. Yet Nuno's HRs allowed stats look like something from a mediocre pitcher during the steroid era. I just hope Rothschild can help this guy improve.

BOYZ,

I always thought Joba Chamberlain would eventually become a closer.

It was the Yankees who developed him into what he now is.

Ahem, I mean AHHHEEEMM! Presuming you mean the Yankees turned him into a great reliever, why did they lose him or let him go??? The Yankees made him great so they lost this great pitcher for a measly $2.5 million? That's what the Yankees do with great players? C'mon Beav, the pitcher the Yankees developed had a 4.01 ERA in 2012 and 4.93 in 2013 with respective WHIPs of 1.548 and 1.738. Major OUCH! Let's not talk injury either. He had a 4.75 and 4.40 in 2009 and 2010 with WHIPS of 1.544 and 1.298 respectively. That was the Yankee product....a project at best. Maybe the Yanks can get some development credit, for an also-ran, but NOT for a guy this good over such a stretch.

As for today, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the mighty Tanaka got TAGGED and the Yankees failed to score a single run. You guys aren't playing a slumping team any more my boys. The Orioles are real pains in the neck who know how to take some big bites out of a team.

RED SOX: Damn, Mike Napoli is having a BIG day for himself. A homer and one of those rare specials stealing home. Lester is doing very well and the Sox are finally scoring a few runs.

Cheers,

Merlot

Well said EB. In fact Hughes was in the same boat as Joba, both developed by the Yankees and both are benefitting from large home ballparks where those pop fly's are not homeruns any longer in Comerica and Minny.

Tanaka pitched well today for a boston starter but just "ok" for the standards he has set for himself as a Yankee. The Jays still in first by a game and a half over both the Yanks and Orioles and that is likely the way the season will go the rest of the way, leaving the rouge hose and Rays to battle it out for last in the East.

The supossedly awesome koji uehara blew a 2 run lead in the bottom of the ninth but dave ortiz* just hit a homer for the lead in the top of the tenth out in Oakland.

Your wish is my command. I will return to posting my weekly baseball report starting tomorrow. ;)

p.s. Hard to believe, but the Yankees do not have a single .300 hitter in their lineup. Same thing with the Red Sox if you exclude Brock Holt, who still doesn't have that many at-bats to be declared as a bonafide .300 hitter. My guess is that he'll be below the .300 level three weeks from now if he continues to be inserted into the lineup.

Trade rumors are heating up for David Price, I would love it if the Yankees or the Blue Jays got him, I think it would increase their odds for the big dance in October.

I wouldn't mind him if he doesn't cost the Jays the farm. They'd rather have a player like him or Cole Hamels instead of a player with a longer contract (like Jeff Samardzija of the Cubs) who'll likely cost them more.

But Jon Morosi mentionned on Baseball Central (RSN) yesterday that the Rays would prefer trading him to a National League team in order not to have to face him.....as if it matters at this point into their disastrous season.

He also pointed out the other day that the Yankees can't really match some of the other teams in top prospects that the Rays or Cubs would seek in a trade, so it's doubtful he or Samardzija would wind up in NY.

But again, people who believe the problem with the Yankees is pitching are looking at a mirage. You go down the lineup & half the team can't hit, especially the corpse of Carlos Beltran. Speaking of corpses, that Stephen Drew signing hasn't exactly paid off for the Red Sox. What a stiff!
