Michael (formerly known as Michael Pineda) was amazing once again and is #1 starter material heading into next season. With 2 "Aces" going into next season (Tanaka and Michael) and other solid pitching, the Yanks game plan is simple this offseason. Get a couple good hitting team players and dont forget Arod will be back but who knows what he has left.

The end of an era today, DEREK JETER displayed exactly what it means to put on the pinstripes day in day out and as EB has said many many times, it was the Pride, Guts, and Determination that propelled Cap'n Clutch to be not only one of the greatest Yankees in history, but one of the Greatest Players ever to play in MLB....Congrats #2, you will be missed but Merci Beaucoup for all the memories and the 5 Championships! :thumb:

Iggy don't forget about Refsnyder he might make the Yankees out of spring training next year. AAA pitchers could not get him out but Cashman left him in the minors to season him. Which was probably wise.

Yup , love Refs and he has a great shot to make the team for sure. He is going to a big time hitter if he stays healthy, raw talent at it's finest. The Yanks have some nice prospects for sure down on the farm. Gary Sanchez one more year away? 2?

The Red Sox celebrated the career of Derek Jeter in a moving pregame ceremony at Fenway Park before the Yankee captain's last game.

A group of Red Sox legends that included Carl Yastrzemski, Fred Lynn, and Rico Petrocelli were among the first to come out to greet Jeter after he was introduced to the crowd and took the field at his familiar shortstop position.

A trio of former Boston team captains -- Bobby Orr, Troy Brown, and former Celtic Paul Pierce also participated in the tribute to No. 2.

Former Boston College baseball captain Pete Frates also joined Jeter on the field for festivities after a video of Jeter's ALS ice bucket challenge from Aug. 19 was shown on the Fenway video screen.

Frates, who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2012, initiated the ALS ice bucket challenge fundraising campaign that went viral this summer.

Jeter would be in the game for only two at-bats in the final game of his 20-year major league career.

In his first at-bat, Jeter lined out to Red Sox shortstop Jemile Weeks but the next time up, Jeter delivered a run-scoring infield single and left the game to a standing ovation and chants of DER-ek JE-ter.

The final hit for Jeter was a high chop that bounced off a hand of Red Sox third baseman Garin Cecchini. After he scampered to first, Brian McCann trotted from the dugout to pinch run for him.

On his way to the Yankee dugout, Jeter pointed to the Red Sox dugout and embraced Sox starter Clay Buchholz. As he approached the Yankees dugout, he waved his cap and was hugged on the warning tack by Mark Teixeira, Brett Gardner and other teammates.

Red Sox players stood in their dugout and applauded as Jeter left the field.

Jeter will be speaking to the assembled media at Fenway after the game is completed.

By the way, let's congratulate the Boston Red Sox on being the SECOND team in MLB history to finish in LAST PLACE after winning the World Series.


Their season wasn't as bad as the Florida Marlins in 1998, 54 wins and 108 loses, after they won the 1997 World Series. But the champ (only for 1 more month) Red Sox won only 71 games and lost 91 games (not as bad as the Marlins) but one of the two teams Ever to claim that title from Top to BOTTOM.

Couldn't have happened to a better fan group.

Before the season , I said that if we finished in 3rd, it would have been an accomplishment

I know it was a weak division, but I can be happy for today

Congratulations. The Mets are a couple of players from being a 90 win or better team. They do have some question marks like David Wright when he returns.

So who will be in the World Series? What would be the best match up to watch?

National League:

St. Louis vs. LA Dodgers (best of five)

Winner of San Francisco at Pittsburgh vs. Washington (best of five)


American League:

Detroit vs. Baltimore (best of five)

Winner of Oakland at Kansas City vs. LA Angels (best of five)



It could be an LA series, or a San Fran Oakland (Bay) series

Or the best records - Washington and LA Angels

Or Baltimore and Pittsburgh, a rivalry back to the 70s.

Or Kansas City, which has not seen a World Series since George Brett.

Which teams would you want to watch?

Which team would you not be so inclined to turn the series on?

I think a lot of people are saying KC or Pittsburgh or Baltimore - a respite from the Cardinals and Giants.

I find it absolutely incredible that NO ONE is contributing to this thread and commenting on the Kansas City Royals.

The Royals, who are bunch of no name players, are playing like the Amazing Mets of 1969.

They won 8 consecutive games to earn their spot in the 2014 World Series.

In the regular season, Baltimore lead the majors in Home Runs with 211 and Kansas City was dead last (30th) with 95. That stat alone, holding Baltimore to 1 Home Run, a single run homer in the last game is amazing.

How much further can KC go?

I think they can pull it off, maybe not winning every game of the World Series (what an amazing task that would be), but they could beat the Cardinals or Giants the way the Royals are playing this post season.

I still can't believe no one wants to discuss the World Series. KC and San Fran are both Wild Card teams. The Royals are red hot winning all 8 playoff games and the Giants are just as hot. Both teams have great defenses, good pitching, speed on the basepath and can threaten the long ball, at least KC has in the playoffs but not in the regular season.

So why are you all so quiet? Are you such homers that you can't enjoy other teams?
