The NFL is very competitive, with many games being decided by one score. Which is why Cowboy coaching decisions like going for it on 4th and 3 rather than kick a chip shot FG for 3 points came back to bite Eagles coach Nick Sirianni in the ass last week against the Falcons.
The Giants won the game against Browns by blitzing DeShaun Watson much of the first half and sending him into frenzied flushes out of the pocket and for his life. After the Giants got the 2 TD lead, they stopped the blitzing that allowed them to get 8 sacks of Watson. It didn't help the Browns that they lost two offensive lineman during the first half, plus Myles Garrett also got injured or aggravated his prior injury. But after the blitzing stop they mounted a couple of decent drives.
Things like injuries on an OL and changes in scheme or strategy can make a big difference in any NFL game. The line between winning and losing is a very fine line. The Dolphins lost their starting QB and now their backup QB and now one wonders when they will next be favored in any game.
I will be curious how the Giants will do Thursday night on the Prime game, but they looked good yesterday. Malik Nabers looked All World as he became the youngest WR in NFL history with 2 TDs in a game and couldn't be slowed down until the Browns finally had to put Denzel Ward on him as Nabers was eating up the other CB. Daniel Jones looked solid, and the pass rush was terrific.
I was very impressed with how the Ravens looked, and still think they could be the best team in the NFL. The combination of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry makes for an unstoppable running attack.
