He will add restrictions and implement environmental charges directly to industries and imports from countries that got no climate change reduction policies in place which as you know the extra costs will be passed on to the customer. The CRTC has the same mentality to keep competition out, the result is the highest telecommunication prices in the world in Canada. The best thing to do for the customer is to remove tariffs, trade barriors, restrictions, no carbon taxes. Open market free trade creates competition and that stimulates innovation and gets a better product at a lower price. Win win for the customer. See, Canada decided to impose tariffs on EVs from China because they were able to offer the same thing if not better at a lower price. In protecting manufacturers in Canada, the customer no longer has access to lower priced EVs. Who pays? The customer and the business profits. I mentioned this in another thread, China now retaliated by imposing tariffs on Canadian exports, everyone was silent. Another thing Canada wants to do is put tariffs or ban tires from Asian countries because the prices are too low.

I really think Trump is just trying to push the envelope and see how far it will go. He is putting the USA first in a way that not all prior Presidents have done, but I think (or hope) that he will dial it back when reason and sense indicates he should do so. There was a Judge who I think in his personal life was a decent guy probably to go out and have drinks with and maybe could pass as "one of the guys", but as a Judge he was a real SOB. By intention and design. He operated with threats and threats which both sides knew he could make good on. He would threaten defaults if adjusters not agreeing with his settlement recommendations were not present in Court. He would threaten the non-settling attorney with making him start picking a jury the next day. All threats he could make good on. In the end his Draconian methods were effective and got cases off his docket. He got results. I see a lot of his methodologies being used by Trump. We will see if Trump is as effective using them.

You guys never see what goes on in Court but this is business 101 we see every day and it's absolutely the same kinds of deal making as what Trump is trying to do using similar methodology.

Yeah, that take is oversimplified and ignores how the real world works - especially in Canada, where certain industries rely on stability over pure free-market chaos.
