GG,

Please don't take this personally...

I'm sure you must realize that many of us have come to some of the same conclusions long ago. Sometimes I get the impression that you feel you are enlightening us, but I'm certain that this is not your intension.

Myids,

I never take anything on these boards personally. I just write the way I feel. I am not here to "enlighten" anyone, that is not my intention. If you go back to my original post, I specified not to take anything personally. I also stated that I do not like generalizing so while my post applies to some SPs and some clients, it does not apply to all.

Bibles at Cleos...sounds kinky!:D

Are you postulating the "Dieu Trompeur" view of a diety,a God that creates demons that give rise to an anger that challenges faith?

eastender,

Now that you mention it, I guess I do believe in the the "Dieu Trompeur" view of a diety. Our faith is constantly being challenged and it's not always easy to reconcile the amount of evil in the world with the view of an all-encompassing God that loves us all.

MakeIt,

While we may feel Quebec is very open because we are neighbors to the most 'Puritan' population in the world, ...............

LOL! I was thinking of old Red, White & Blue, headed by the man who once said that Jesus told him to invade Iraq. I am convinced he will go down in history as the worst President ever. Talk about warped views...

As for getting what you deserve, that's the most untrue thing I've ever heard you utter. Did Stalin get what he deserved? Did Allende? What about the kid dying of leukemia? Is that what she deserves? Life is far more random than people like to admit. And, in the end, we all get the same fate, though some of us lead far better lives than others.

You say that God saved you from taking your life years ago. You saved your life, not God. We all invent Gods to protect ourselves and save us from our fears. We see SPs to escape our boredom, our sense of futility.

btyger,

You're right - unfortunately, many people do not get what they deserve. But I can tell you that God was there that fateful night long ago. If he wasn't, I wouldn't be here typing this. I do not want to go back there but it was one of the most intense experiences of my life - puts everything into perspective. It also gives me the strength to remember that this hobby will ultimately never fulfill me and bring me true happiness.

Amen.

I wish I could believe you about a higher power, General. God, if you're there, give me a sign. Prove me wrong:p

God has blessed you with a child - the greatest gift of all. Love him and enjoy watching him grow up.

Now, enough on this topic - I am not that religious.

Assuming that God exists,as per your posts. I hold the contrary position.

How do you reconcile a loving,all-encompassing God creating evil for the sole purpose of challenging our faith?

How can God be loving while creating evil? Using your model, innocent infants born out of love become disposable as a means of testing the parents faith.

How can such a God be viewed as loving? Would love not be a tribute to the human soul, spirit or mind that creates such an evil diety?

eastender,

I am not sure what you mean but all I can say is that God works in mysterious ways. God created us and gave us the freedom to love, to help and to sin. Without evil, there can be no good. We are nothing in the larger scope of things - mere specs in the universe.

I do believe in God but not in institutional religion. I think when you mix politics with religion, it typically leads to human suffering.
