Booker...

For the sake of curiosity, on a forum where the average person wouldn't pay $300-$500 for an hour of bliss with a HDH, how many of them do you think would be willing to spend 10x - 100x (or even more in some of the examples above) on a timepiece???

a.lange & söhne

Hi all

STYLE NEWS

WHY DOES THIS WATCH COST $2.5 MILLION?
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/a-lange-sohnes-limited-edition-656353
Rarity, for starters. A. Lange & Sohne is not exactly a household name, and it releases fewer than 5,000 watches annually. Rolex, according to industry experts, puts out about 900,000 a year.
A. Lange & Soehne’s Grand Complication features a grand sonnerie and petit sonnerie in addition to a minute repeater, a monopusher chronograph with a split-seconds function and jumping seconds, and a perpetual calendar with a moon-phase display.

Academia Tourbillon Force Constante à Chaîne by DEWITT
February 9, 2009 | Baselworld, DeWitt

DeWitt-Constant-Force-tourbillon.jpg

DeWitt has enhanced its legendary constant force tourbillon with a system that relays energy to its associated power reserve indicator. Rotating the crown when winding the barrel-spring drives a miniature chain, which uses an intermediate wheel to activate the power reserve indicator sliding on a worm screw. Three years after developing an ingenious patented regulating system - three extra wheels transmitting impulses of identical force to the tourbillon, whatever the barrel's degree of tension - DeWitt has now taken innovation to even greater heights.

I do not get the fascination with expensive obscure name watches that no one has ever heard of. I am a Omega Sea Master man.

Joe, like fine sportscars it's all about the celebration of the pinnacle of the trade !
Mind you, I have 3 Omegas... Seamaster 300 Electric Blue, 1966 Seamaster Deville (piepan gold filled) and a Speedy hesalite with display back.
there's no right or wrong answer here... you can't go wrong with any mechanical timepiece ! well cared for, you can put them in your willl...

Patek has it right: "you never truly own a Patek Philippe. You merely take care of it for the next generation".

Regardless of the name / brand / price... you're part of a select few people who truly admire and respect more than 200 years of craftmanship !

wear yours in good health !

Racerdude.
Racer and Joe

Omega .
I do also have a few rare timepieces ,the 50th anniversary skeletonized seamaster .
I do ware it in good health racer .
As for Patek well a Perpetual calendar in platinum with deployment buckle and alligator strap plus a annual calendar in white gold limited edition T150
Watches must provide emotion when you ware it ,if it does its like having any other piece of art ,

Kind Regards

however, for a dress party, i am looking for an all metal not digital dispaly fully automatic that selfwines with shaking or turning wrist that isnt too expensif. any sugestions?

Top of the mountain
so an automatic with 90h of reserve .....

The new swatch system 51 all assembled by robots an with only 51 parts encased in an plastic case. It as a peripheral rotor and the balance is laser adjusted during process so no need of an human hand to adjust it. The mechanism is made of an anti magnetic alloy so swatch guarantees +/- 5 sec per days if more or less they will replace it ...
I saw and tried it and it feels for me to much plastic , the escape wheel and fork made of dense plastic ,all the bridges soldered .... so you can throw it away when its goes off beat... the design of the dial is to fuzzy to be readable at a glance .....

but this is the future of watchmaking , simpler movement wit less parts and auto lubricating , arcap an anti-magnetic alloy or just like the the tissot astrolon 2001 an great idea...
