Because its a big market Dubai 1.6 millions vs 300 millions in the U.S.You are right Toronto and Las Vegas are my choice can you imagine a night race in Vegas?
I don't see Toronto having F1 any time in the near future. If the promoter in Montreal is no longer willing to pay the price, I doubt there is one who would for Toronto, since unlike Montreal it would also require building a completely new track.
It has been suggested by some that the federal government's Downsview Park in the northern part of Toronto and the adjoining airfield could be a good location for racing. A guy who was formerly in charge of the Toronto IndyCar race now arranges events for Downsview Park, but there has been nothing to indicate it is being considered.

The last rumour i heard was that there still was a chance the race would be held as long as more money was paid. If i'm the organizers, i tell the F1 people to take their race & stick-it up their fat ass!

PARIS (Reuters) - Next year's French Formula One Grand Prix could be canceled after the French Motorsports Federation (FFSA) said on Wednesday it would no longer finance the event.
"After examining the economic situation, the FFSA renounces to be the financial promoters of a Formula One Grand Prix," the national governing body said in a statement.
"As a result, and as long as a promoter capable of succeeding the FFSA has not been identified, the French Grand Prix will not be able to feature on the FIA international calendar in 2009," the statement added.
The race was due to be held at Magny-Cours on June 28.

Several years ago, the preliminary F1 race card did not have Canada in the schedule. By Christmas time, Canada was added. It is a common negotiating ploy that Bernie uses to extort more money out of the Canadian race promoters.

Guy Laliberte, founder of Le Cirque du Soleil, has now entered the picture in trying to save the GP. Of course, GP weekend has always coincided with the huge celebrity bash he holds on his estate. So in order to attract the celebs to his all-night bash, he needs them in Mtl. No GP, likely not many celebs in town. Laliberte is also a huge F1 fan. And yes, he's also one of the world's top poker players.
I saw a poll yesterday where 60% of respondents wanted Bernie Ecklestone to stick his F1 race up his ass & leave. Only 40% wanted officials to do everything they could to save the race. Personally, i see the benefits of having the race (it's also a great start to the Mtl summer festival season), but i'm tired of seeing Bernie Ecklestone hold Mtl hostage over the race every 2 or 3 years. Maybe the right thing to do would be to tell Ecklestone to get lost & stay in Europe with his stuck-up fans.

Kuwaiti investors are looking into building a $200 million oval speedway near Fort Erie, Ontario (just across the river from Buffalo). The intention would obviously be to get Nascar and IndyCar races, yet both would probably not be interested, since they already race at Watkins Glen (and in Toronto for IndyCar).rollingstone said:

Maybe the politicians should try to get the Kuwaiti investors to take over the Montreal F1 race instead?
If there is no F1 race in Montreal, would there be any chance of an IndyCar and/or American Le Mans Series weekend? I think the track is only allowed to be used twice a year.
The date for the NASCAR Nationwide Series race in Montreal has been moved to late August starting in 2009. An early July date could make sense for ALMS, after the 24 Hours of Le Mans in mid-June, and before the ALMS race at Lime Rock in mid-July.
Early July could also be good for IndyCar since it would be one week before the Toronto race, although it would probably have to wait until 2010 for them to re-arrange their schedule, which has Watkins Glen on that weekend for 2009.

Most of the NASCAR races (all?) are run on oval courses. None of those in Mtl. Also, the weekend festivities wouldn't bring in as much $$$ to the local economy as the F1 race. Europeans flock to Mtl during GP weekend & they like blowing away money like there's no tomorrow. NASCAR fans are more cautious with their hard-earned money.
As for Indycar, there's been such races in Mtl in the past (e.g. Champ car) and it barely registered a blip on the local radar screen. Mtl'ers don't have much interest in such a race. They look at it as pretty much a minor league type of circuit.

I wouldnt keep my hopes up, that 3 weeks break is a mandatory request by the teams, so If they do put the GPC back up, they need to find another 3 week break somewhere

I just thought of the perfect sponsor for the GP...Petro Canada. Then the oil industry and Bernie could screw each other for a change instead of us.
If Ecclestone continues this way, the Grand Prix circuit will consist of oil rich countries and the countries that have made GP racing the elite sport that it is, and are the major markets for the cars the manufactures are selling, will be on the outside looking in.
While I will dearly miss the fun of GP week here in Mtl, I will not miss seeing the city being held up for ransom by this pompous ass named Bernie Ecclestone. The only thing to look forward to is the day that he is no longer running F1. It cannot come soon enough.
