Meh. This is another TDWT which has little to do with prostition or facts and more about villainizing left or right. Just for some balance the strictest anto-prostitution laws are in Texas and Louisiana, hardly left leaning states. Also, who gives a shit? Nobody on this board travels to Mass to go monger

I wish all this political shit would either fuck off and go away or confine itself to the political forum where it belongs. Being bathed in more vitriolic, devoid of facts bullshit is exactly what I come to forums like this to get away from. Aren't we getting enough in everyday life and news as it is, without being subject to it here too? geezus.

And your favorite topics and posts are so interesting! For example:

Also, are you a mod? I don't think so. The mods can handle their jobs without any help from you. Let the mods decide whether a thread is posted in the right forum.

Furthermore, you Canadians should more concerned than you seem to be about the prostitution abolition movement. There is a strong such movement in Canada, lots of "sex trafficking" propaganda in the Canadian media and a very strong anti-john law on the books in Canada. The only difference is that for now, local law enforcement agencies in large Canadian metro areas have decided not to enforce the law. But that could change at any time.

Nope, not feeding the trolls today. Take it to the politics section. That's what it's there for.

The basis of anti-prostutition laws are almost 100% political. Like I always said, it is not about left vs right but more about authoritarianism vs libertarianism. This is an example of government policing ppl behaviors by creating victimless laws. Remove all victimless laws.

Unlike americans, Canadians can deal with gray zones. True criminals should be put in jail, not joe plumbers. Chasing Joe Plumber is viewed as resource waisting and doing so would also indispose ladies involved. It’s a bit like before the weed was legalized.

Elizabeth Nolan Brown of Reason.com has a column on the Boston brothel case. As usual she does a great job pointing out the idiocy of how both law enforcement and the media handle otherwise minor, harmless violations of the law.

Massachusetts is in the midst of prosecuting people who patronized a fancy sex business near Harvard University. It's been big news in certain corners, spawning salacious stories about the doctors, politicians, and tech executives who were on the club's client list. But the most novel thing about this prosecution is what it's missing: a wild yarn about sex slaves.

The framing of this story is refreshing, after more than a decade of similar stories getting starkly different treatment. Despite many of the sex workers involved being Asian—a fact that greatly increases the odds of a prostitution bust being called a "human trafficking sting"—news reports have largely refrained from trying to portray the women involved as hapless victims of sexual servitude.

Yet the absence of a trafficking narrative lays bare the hollowness of such prosecutions. Why are we doing this? Who's being served?...
