Urango was too strong for Hermann, plain and simple. Hermann suffered a broken jaw as of the second round, that's how hard Urango hits (Ngoudjo actually suffered a triple fracture reminiscent of Arthur Abraham's against Edison Miranda and is off for a period between 6 and 10 months)

Ngoudjo had no solution against him but showed lots of courage to fight through pain and to make the distance.

Ngoudjo is a good fighter with a good chin, lots of heart and determination but he's featherfisted. Urango knew that, tucked his chin into his chest and threw his bombs all night long. He knew Hermann couldn't hurt him.

Styles make fights. Ngoudjo handled hard puncher Randall Bailey and beat (but got robbed by the judges) slick Paulie Malignaggi, that's how good he is. But this sort of all-out stalker with this kind of power is something that Ngoudjo has never faced before.

BTW, the only loss Urango ever suffered is against Ricky Hatton - goes to show.

I'm from Montreal and I've been following the career of local boxers such as Joachim Alcine, Lucian Bute, Adonis Stevenson, Antonin Decarie, Jean Pascal, Olivier Lontchi and Hermann Ngoudjo from the very beginning so - yes - I root for them.

Manny Pacquiao has voluntarily relinquished his WBC lightweight world championship. I guess he realizes that he could no longer make the weight and it's time to move up in weight class.

Classy move to relinquish it now and give someone else the chance to win it instead of holding on to it until he was forced to give it up.

I know you don't like the lower weights below welter but I was expecting something from my personal boxing editor on the recent bouts of JMM, Gamboa, Khan, or Valero, especially considering your man-crush on Gamboa...c'mon throw me a bone!

Hatton is nothing more than a clutch and grab mauler, I am glad Pacquio KO'd him, I was surprised how easily he did it though, looks like Mayweather and Pacquio will be the next big superfight.

As great as the win was (knockout of the year, easily), Hatton's stupid strategy does little to highlight Pac's exponential learning curve as a boxer since the Morales II fight. There will be some, I'm sure, who will find an excuse in Hatton's wide open approach. To wit, all props must go to Freddie Roach for training his guy to demolish his opponent and calling it to boot. Yet, for those of us who saw the first glimpse of that devasting right hand in the Barrera fight in San Antonio a few years back, were thrilled at the development of Manny's arsenal in this fight. A Pacquiao fight in Vegas never disappoints.

Golden Boy could really make this interesting by having Manny fight on the July 18 card as well, with the winners making a superfight in December. Mosely, anyone? I don't know if Roach would endorse this fight for Manny but this would be a true test for the Pac-man. Sugar's gonna be much bigger than Hatton and DLH were over Manny, intelligent, seasoned boxer, and a champion who can take punches on the chin. And any of the possible outcomes of the two fights would make a winner-take-all-P4P mega-event to close the year.

Regardless Pac should fight again instead of waiting for the winner of Mayweather/JMM. And if it's not in Vegas on July 18 then maybe Mosely, Cotto, or even Valero in the Philippines. He's earned the right to a big fight at home. Thrilla in Manila II would be appropriate for his career at the moment.

Seriously doubt that Golden Boy would put all their eggs in the same basket nor would it want to jeopardize a PBF/Pac superfight this coming fall by bringing Mosley in the picture.

Plus neither Pac nor Mayweather would accept to fight on the undercard. Forget about it.

True. It would be a risk for Golden Boy, no doubt. But the risk-reward is compelling...Pac has it in him to at least take a Mosely fight, especially since it would mean a chance at another and unprecedented title. The hype would be ridiculous, including a double dose of HBO 24/7's and even if the end of year superfight was less attractive than Pac/Money, the combined buys including the double headliner might surpass the other scenario. And really, of the four possibilities, a Mosely/JMM superfight would be the only money risk here. Those are pretty good Vegas odds. Consider that if there was any boxer humble enough to take the "undercard" (it will be double billed otherwise) in this scenario, it would be Manny. The whole thing would put boxing back to sports show leads. And that's good news for any boxing promoter.

Still a slim chance, I figure.

Presidential spokeswoman Rosario Murillo confirmed Arguello's death early Wednesday.

The 57-year-old Arguello was elected mayor of Managua last year. He turned pro in 1968 and won his first title by knocking out Ruben Olivares for the featherweight crown. He later captured the super featherweight and lightweight belts, becoming the sixth boxer to win titles in three weight classes.

He retired in 1995 with a record of 82-8 with 65 knockouts, and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1992.

His Sandinista party's Radio Ya said coroners are conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

I still remember the day he fought Ray Mancini and stopped him in the 14th round, Ray who had dedicated that fight to his father was inconsolable in his corner and when Arguello saw this he walked over there and gave him a hug and told him that he would become champ after he moved up in weight as he was a very good fighter and not to let this loss affect him negatively.

That was one of the most heartfelt and honest moments I have seen in any sport, truly one of a kind was Alexis. Vaya con dios campeon and may you at last rest in peace. I`m gonna go watch some Arguello fights from my boxing dvd collection today in his memory, gonna start with the two Escalera wars and work my way up from there.

Anyone else here remember them days back in the 50s-60s-70s-80s when NBC/ABC and the CBS sports spectacular showed boxing on free tv? Man do I miss those days, had thrill a minute fighters like Bobby Chacon, Danny Lopez, Matthew Saad on free TV back then in the 80s! Dick Tiger, Joey Giardello, Emile Griffith and Luis Rodriguez in the 50s and 60s too, today we`d have to fork over 50$ to see them in action, my how times have changed.

Or maybe because Lucien Bute wasn't invited, you're throwing your best Quebec snob on? lol You got to admit, his fights aren't too cable-friendly. Locals and hardcore fans only. But I'm not worried about that at all. He'll get in there when some guy bows out on injury or contract negotiations or something stupid.

Jr. Welterweight fight tonight. Juan Diaz vs Paul Malignaggi

Just watched HBO's Boxing After Dark featuring Texas' Juan Diaz vs New York's Paul Malignaggi in Houston Texas. This could be one of the worst home town decisions as well as one of the biggest reasons I don't follow boxing anymore. From my POV as well as all the analysts, Malignaggi won what should have been a relatively close decision at 115-113 and at worst a possible draw of 114-114. Not only did he get robbed of the decision in a unanimous fashion but one of the hometown judges scored the fight 118-110 for Diaz. This could be one of the most preposterous decisions I've ever seen in the fight game and I've seen alot of shit decisions. I have no idea what fight that judge was watching but it certainly wasn't the one in front of him. Absolutely disgusting!!!

Anyway, this is really what is completely wrong with boxing nowadays. I'll take MMA over boxing anytime now!
