Bute doesn't have to take part in any tournament. His big money fight is a rematch against Andrade, not some Showtime tournament.
I can agree with the latter but differ on the former.

Sure Bute has a "big" money fight coming up in Andrade and second in a potential rubber match, but then what? Who else does he got when the rest of the elite competition is tied up in the Super 6? The tourney guarantees each fighter 3 big fights in the next 18 months, something Bute doesn't have. Plus the exposure to other markets would only help his pay-days on future fights. Seems pretty clear to me he is more profitable in the tournament than not.

A Super 6 Middleweight Tournament without Lucian, not 'Lucien', Bute is hardly a tournament, let alone a Super 6 tournament. Andre Ward? Andre Dirrell? Jermain Tayor? and yet no Lucian Bute? Come on...
Got your Quebec snob on, huh? lol

I hear ya though. But since when does the IBF belt get any respect? A second-class championship belt.

Bute is under contract with HBO for his fights. This is probably the main reason he was excluded from the tournament.

PREDICTION: Mayweather UD over Marquez

I'm hoping for Fight of the Year on this one...

Showtime Super Middleweight tourney

Hopefully the Bute fans will pardon this interuption. And with my personal boxing editor's confinement (or decision?) to Shutter Island, I'm not expecting much engagement but...

Typically always bet on black in a toss-up fight (lol), but I'll take experience over an average boxer and speed over a gassed vet in my predictions tonight:

Froch UD over Dirrell

Abraham TKO10 Taylor

Here's hoping 10-19 is somewhere out there...or in Vegas this Saturday.

Calling the fight...ring generalship and uppercut combos break through Cotto's body work:

Late round stoppage

Pacquiao TKO8 Cotto

I picked a TKO by Pacquiao in the 12th round & just won $800!!!!!

Felt sorry for Cotto.....he was beaten to a pulp!!!! Next up for Pacquiao: Floyd Mayweather??? Who will ever be able to beat Pacquiao?

Super Middleweight

Just watched the Bute v. Andrade fight this past weekend and was thoroughly impressed. Despite the "second class" belt that Lucian holds, I have to agree with what is recently being written about him...the champion of this weight division will need to go through Bute to be considered the best.

Contracts and promotional companies aside, Showtime's Super 6 tourney needs to kick Taylor out and sub in Bute now. For the credibility of the division and the tourney, this is the right thing to do.

And for those of you that called this out prior, I'm claiming my spot on the bandwagon...obviously I have been sleeping on this division and Lucian.

After that, Oscar quits. I'm shocked. Maybe he was protecting the KO or embarrassment of being face-mangled in front of millions...but knowing him over the years as a fighter with tremendous heart...and watching how the fight transpired...I can only surmise Manny made him quit by taking it.

It was more of an embarrassment than the Calzaghe-Jones fight where Calzaghe dominated Jones in every way and couldn't stop him but at least Jones tried to put up a fight.

The Fight of Our Generation!! Mayweather v. Pacquiao May 2, 2015

Who you got?! Where will you be?!!

I know there's a few of you out there excited about this :D especially after so long waiting. But these guys are still a class above the rest in their weight division, still the top 2 pound-for-pound fighters in the world, and still motivated by legacy (and money!)...and yes, styles do make fights - like Ali v. Fraser - boxer v. brawler - this one has that too!

HBO and Showtime released recently the first parts to features on their respective fighters - and is a pretty cool primer for the fight:

Inside Mayweather part 1

At Last Pacquiao part 1

Pacquiao's my guy and I'm gonna make the same prediction I made in this thread in 2008...Pacquiao def. Mayweather UD.

Take a time-out from baseball and nhl/nba playoffs fellas! I don't think you will want to miss this :thumb:
