Police in Brazil are starting to employ a dictatorship-era national security law against critics of President Jair Bolsonaro, while lawyers and activists rally to provide them with legal help and accuse the government of trying to silence dissent.

On Friday, demonstrators challenged police in the capital by parading with anti-Bolsonaro signs a day after four protesters were detained. They had called the president "genocidal" for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and displayed a cartoon depicting him next to a Nazi swastika. Officers took no action Friday as about 40 people protested for an hour.

Yesterday = 3,650 dead

Well done Bolsonaro, continue as your mentor

Just yesterday, 3,423 humans died.

Keep on saying bullshit, Bolsonaro

I hope the Brazilian people will get rid of him in 2022.

On Tuesday, Brazil saw a record 4,211 coronavirus deaths — the lower house of Congress passed a bill that would allow corporations to directly purchase vaccine doses from international suppliers and give them to employees, even before priority groups like the elderly and medical workers are fully vaccinated. “We are at war,” the leader of the chamber, Arthur Lira, argued, “and in war, anything goes to save lives.”

For more than a year, far-right President Jair Bolsonaro downplayed the risk of the virus, resisted proven public health measures, promoted disproven treatments, and actively sabotaged Brazil’s vaccination program.

This video it's in french, but it's very explicit.

A disaster: the Covid pandemic has seemed out of control for several weeks in Brazil.
The country regularly counts 3,000-4,000 deaths per day, the official toll now exceeds 340,000 deaths. And these are just the official figures. Many doctors estimate the toll twice as heavy.

Brazil is perhaps the country in the world that is handling the pandemic the worst.

And much of the responsibility lies with its far-right president Jair Bolsonaro. His outlook on the pandemic is revealing of his outlook on society.

Doctors in Brazil are sounding the alarm as the country's COVID crisis spirals out-of-control. ICU capacity at many of the hospitals is at 90 per cent (it was april 4th).

Brazil has the highest daily death toll in the world and there are more than 43,000 new cases each day.

Yesterday 4,249 dead

Total 345,000 dead

Well done Bolsonaro, another narcissistic President, who said the coronavirus was just a flu virus.

He also said that Brazilians have built up immunity by swimming in cesspools .
No regard or sympathy for the majority of his people.

BTW , Canada and Mexico are not too far behind Brazil in per capita new cases. More virulent variants and pathetically slow roll out of vaccines are to blame .

I have a Brazilian friend told me.

Everyone knows that the number of cases has never been counted correctly, always less.

Brazilian scientists are still complaining and they say the death toll is much higher.
