Yeah, but when you don't know... I mean its a MOTEL so ...
when your an out of town person like i am, you pretty much expect to sleep in MTL. Especially when the place ain't too close of the bus station like the Chablis. I have been to a couple motels in Quebec and i never experienced those problem, even the ones with porn TV. But i think they had one floor only. But yeah its Quebec... not MTL.
In any case now i know. So thats why i book downtown, always surprise the SPs when they come at the little hotels on sherbrooke est, they always mention its there first time coming there and such, but good price, clean place, close to the bus station, and most important no stupid deposit. I have been 2 times at the Lord Berri, wich i tough at first was great. Big room, fridge(wich is what i miss the most at the other place), bigger bathroom, the price was significantly highter tough... 150$ more or less compared to 109(summer) and 90(winter) for my regular place, but the place was bigger and all so well... First time it was all cool and all, i had plenty of space on my credit card, didn't notice...
Second time tough, i quit MTL the next day with a fully loaded credit card, im like WTF??? Had plenty of space left on it... I think i barely had 10$ to eat the next day before coming home. I check my shit at home and realize...
1) They made a pre-autorization, full room amount, so lets say 150$. In my mind it was fine, i tough when i check out they just confirm that 150$ and its all good. But it was not the case.
2) They took a deposit of 200$, without even warning me
3) When i paid the next day before quiting, its ANOTHER 150$ i paid...
Total cost (at that moment) .. 500$ !!!!!!
Yes, i was refunded the extra 350$ 3 days later or so... BUT that did not gave me back my money when i left the hotel, it was not immediate. And i was NOT aware of all of this.. i was sure the 150$ pre-autorisation was simply my consentement so the hotel would take that ammount would i leave without paying. Like my regular hotel room, they take my numbers per phone and if i don't present myself, they take 1 night anyway...
Lets just say i was more than mad at this and promised myself i would never go to a place this again.
My regular hotel... you arrive, you pay, you leave when you want and thats it. No deposit, no extra ammount... thats it thats out, so once the 100$ or so have pass, you know how much money you have left on your card.
Sorry about this rent, but i wanted to mention it. Chablis ain't like that(at least last time i got there) but there was another thing that bothered me. They asked for 2 piece of IDs with photos. First ok fine my RAMQ card, but what can i give for a second piece... they wouldn't take my bus card...(i don't have a driver liscence) They said an invoice from Hydro-quebec would do... yeah ok like i travel with my invoice in my backpack... And currently i don't pay hydro myself here, so i would be screw.
I said "ok then ill find another hotel, what can i say, i don't have anything else" and the clerk said "ok ok for this time its fine" , second time i think i brough the invoice, as i was still in my own appartement, but whatever...
All of those procedure annoys me... again regular hotel i use, one ID card is fine, problem solved...
