CJAD Ric Peterson on Montreal RLD Idea

So I'm listening to CJAD's Ric Peterson this afternoon slamming Montreal mayoral candidate Louise O'Sullivan because her platform includes establishing an RLD in Montreal. He rants that legalization does nothing to help SWs, and only makes things worse. Of course, in the general media, street prostitution = all of prostitution. He says how Nevada's brothels result in "prison-like conditions" and that "you're signing a contract to be raped." And he refers to Malarek's book like it's gospel. And that an RLD would destroy Montreal's image as a "family friendly" town for tourists.

1. Ok, I agree that Montreal should not have an RLD. That is really dehumanizing, when the girls are put on public display like that in Amsterdam, and nothing good can come from street prostitution. I heard how tourists walking by laugh and make fun.

2. Prostitution as rape? Sorry, no. Rape involves physical force or involuntary drug usage. What can I do with a stack of 20s? Give you paper cuts?! I only heard this bull fertilizer before ... on Dr. Phil's show.

3. Montreal a "family-friendly" town? LOL. Well, having SUPER SEXE in the middle of St. Cath doesn't help. OTOH, no one is suggesting that the RLD be placed in the middle of La Ronde.

I always find it amazing how those who have never had any contact with anyone in the sex industry are always the ones who are the first to pass judgement. And why the hell does everything in the world have to be 'family friendly'? Isn't there room for adults to be adults anymore?

Kids see more trash by the time they are 5 years old from sitting in front of the TV watching soap operas with mommy than they will see in their next 2 decades of life. Incest, rape, murder, drug dealers, prostitution...you name it and you'll find it in a soap opera. But see one girl standing on a street corner and you would think that the world is going to come to an end.

It tourists want 'family friendly' let em go to Disneyland.

I like listening to Peterson on occassion when driving home but he can really be a self righteous sob sometimes.

Oh come now. We have a multitude of stations worth listening to:

A radio station where the record is stuck, and it is from the 70s, and it is the shit music from the 70s that provoked the inception of Punk and New Wave.

18,000 stations playing moronic Hip Hop mixes at night and stultifyingly stupid pop rap during the day (there is nothing so sublime as listening to a DJ on Virgin Radio patting himself on the back furiously for having played L'il Wayne's ode to cocksucking at 10 a.m., for example), aimed at that lucrative audience of tweenies, teens, and SPs.

All of which is to say, this is why they invented the Internet (just ask Vint ****): Internet radio, music streaming, podcasts, and offline, satellite radio, to replace homogenized pablum being rammed into your ears, force-fed to you with as much gusto as they do grain a goose in the process of making paté du fois.

Thankfully, I only have to listen to the radio when I am in the car, trying to decide which of each and every one of our highways is less blocked due to construction so I can be in less of a traffic jam at 2 a.m. when some random road crew decides to shut down a major intersection/entrance/exit with no warning, or seeming purpose, and then go on break.

Red Light District

The idea is complex. The prostitution laws are in the federal Criminal Code. City governments do not have the constitutional authority to modify these laws - it would take an amendment to the Criminal Code. Is she proposing to lobby the feds to create the red-light district? Or does she simply propose to instruct the city police not to enforce federal laws within a certain geographical area? If it is the latter, there is no legal impediment to the feds sending in the RCMP to enforce the laws.

In North America a RLD is more a question of municipal zoning - evidenced by Boston - the old "Combat Zone' around Washington St., New York around 42nd and Times Square, tried in the 1970's and eventually disappeared, Toronto - Yonge street likewise. The idea is that concentrating such commercial activity in a defined area is more efficient and removes the sprawl to other districts.

Inevitably there is a sordid crime - Boston, a Harvard student was killed by a SW(circa 1976), Toronto a pedophile killed a boy(circa 1979), it becomes an election issue and disappears.

Louise O'Sullivan represented the Peter McGill riding which is downtown including the present unofficial RLD. CJAD is West Island oriented and is not listened to by the vast majority of people living in the concerned area.

I never listen to radio, i always bring a cd with me in a car...that solves every porbleme. Anyway don't have much of a choice when you are a metal fan, you need satelite radio to find something interesting.
