Have you ever been at a fast food restaurant parking lot in the summer when someone throws out half a lunch and all the birds swoop in for a meal. There are tiny sparrows, pigeons and medium sized brown birds all eating. Then all of the sudden a big sea gull swoops in and gobbles everything up. That is what the new mayor did, he did what politicians do best, make himself look as good as possible on other peoples back. These raids were planned long ago ago and the investigations took months. With the RCMP involved, this tells me that they were after places that had women brought in from other countries. There may be a few more high profile raids, but after that the mayor will show the citizens of the city that he is cracking down on permit violations. According to the news reports many salons do not have the right permits and are working under hair salon and nail salon permits. I do not know if the intend to go to the Toronto style permits where a erotic massage is allowed to exist. These erotic permits cost $10,000 a year and the ladies have to go through police criminal checks and personally have a $400-500 permit to work at the erotic salons. If this happens half the erotic masseuses will disappear into the woodwork since there are many students working part time at these salons.

With these recent raids 50-70% of the ladies will not show up this week at the salons and will wait to see what direction this matter is going.

Many salons will be closed and there will be some people that will go indy, but it will not happen quickly. Many people just do not have the ability or resources to do so. The part timers and students will disappear. They preferred working at the salons for no pay because it was a safe environment for them.

David Bowie , maybe you hsould have read the article he posted a link to before asking a dumb question...
The article states that there was a massive raid of 18 (EIGHTEEN) massage parlours...

So 100 arrests seems normal...

Just sayin

no, a cop on duty won't get naked if they are going to arrest you. an undercover cop investigating is different but then, that's something else

The raids might start going after incall agencies too ... They tend to advertise in a very obvious way these days by saying things like "Just arrived" or "First time in MTL" ...

Mitsou might be right about indys being in their private residences but in case something happens and you get raided, it will take time to clear the situation thorugh lawyers and courts ... It would not be pleasant ...

I would suggest to Mitsou to maybe change her "man in uniform" fantasy for another type of uniform ... Maybe the Parking Agent or the UPS man .. Just kidding ...

In my opinion ... I think I would start to fare off from exotic gals from the Orient and consider local talent instead ...

I don't think that they will start raiding private homes without any valid reason.
Mitsou, don't worry. I will try to see you soon.

Damn cops are ruining my fantasy!
I have a cop in uniform fantasy but that is the last thing I want to see at my front door!

I guess I'll have to turn up in a Coverall with safety helmet and tool box (Service Call) your choice of appliance you want fixed.

At this time all salons are under the microscope. The Feds ( RCMP, Immigration ) are looking for trafficked women and illegals. Soon, as Coderre announced, there will be a crack down on salons for the proper zoning and business permits. I would not be surprised if the do an Ontario style system where massage studios have to have 1) a massage studio permit, 2) all masseuses have to be licenced ( annual permit fee ) 3) Have taken massage courses in a massage school. Erotic massage places will have to have a special erotic massage permit. The erotic masseuses will have to have a erotic masseuse permit and have their criminal record checked.

I hope they will enforce some kind of new regulations. In countries like Netherlands or Germany, the sex industry is strictly regulated, but also accepted (tolerated) by the population in general. And I doubt they have massage parlors or brothels near schools for instance.
I really don't get it why you need some big signs and even neons shouting out that you are a massage parlor, while you can operate this business via websites and online advertising. When you are looking for troubles, you end up having troubles ... I only hope those who play the game in a more discreet way and without exploiting underage or trafficked women won't end up in the same bag

Coderre needs better advisers to head off the impending mess.

It just goes to show how dangerous it can be to sound off without thinking everything through, particularly when the hungry media is likely to get involved. So a month ago Coderre starts to talk about cleaning up the massage parlour industry but doesn't really get into specifics. The press basically takes over from there and creates a panic. Many of us stopped going to our regular parlours, the girls source of income starts to dry up and they also start believing that going to work is risky. So what happens? Little mini parlors begin to pop up, only now they're on residential streets and apartment buildings. It seems the industry is going underground. At first I must admit it sounded pretty good when one of my favourites teamed up with a few others to open in a cozy apartment, However, it took just a couple of weeks before the gangs from Coderre's own Montreal North sniffed out opportunity (I'll refrain from making racial references). Now these poor girls have new bosses and are scared. Worse, they are scared to go to the police, so they keep going to work, and guess who is keeping most of the money. I thought about going to the police myself but felt that would probably result in the same fate. When these gangs smell easy pray and money they move quickly and Bordeaux is just a revolving door in their lives so they don't worry much about LE or rules.

What were Coderre's advisers thinking? I'm all for going after human trafficking and underage peddlers but I've been to some 50 different parlours in the last couple of years and I've never seen anything like that. No doubt it happens but I suspect your talking about a very small percentage of parlours and I'm pretty sure most of it is actually happening in private set ups. If the authorities wanted to really help catch the traffickers they should be finding ways to team up with Parlor owners.

As far as I'm concerned LE had been doing a good job keeping the parlours under control because there really hasn't been many major disturbances that I've heard about. Aside from the nit-picking that we like to do on the boards, and a few needed improvements to streetview esthetics, I would say that most parlours are run reasonable well all things considered.

So let's summarize, a month ago Coderre's boys in blue knew where all the parlours were and they had open access to them, they knew who the owners of these businesses were, the gangs didn't seem to bother with these businesses, and the girls had a good environment to work in. Now we have parlours going out of business, the girls being pushed underground, make shift massage houses springing up in residential apartments, and gang members waiting outside counting heads and collecting money.

Instead of verifying and revoking those suspicious salon permits issued in the past year, and have LE do more regular visits to check IDs, we have the media driving a scare campaign that is turning an otherwise stable industry upside down and things are heading straight into the hands of the gangs and the old time mobsters. Great job!

In Edmonton, Bodyrubbers are licensed and Adult erotic massage studios have their separate licensing from Therapeutic centers. In Toronto, Bodyrub owners have to pay $ 10,000 for a business license and each girl isindividually licensed, so if this works in Edmonton and Toronto, maybe it should happen in Montreal too, if these owners in Montreal want to carry on their business they they can pay off the City.

Here is how things in work in Oiler country:
