Dating's awesome but it's definitely different vs. pre-covid. I always have an amazing time when I travel to Montreal; you locals are so blessed to have such a spectacular city and the locals I've met have wonderful personalities and hearts.

I do a lot of nerd stuff and go to conventions and once in a while someone asks how to find a girlfriend or get laid at a convention.

The golden rule is that if you can get a good girlfriend or get laid in real life, you can at a convention. The same principle can be generalized when travelling to other countries (assuming no language barrier).

Dating as a man especially in Montreal is very tough. The women are very picky and demandy because they got so much options. They want tall, confident, says all the right things, has status, etc.. Montreal has many similarities to Paris in which women here are very snobby. My experience in Toronto was very different where girls would make the first move.

I find the comparison with Toronto a bit surprising, perhaps due to the higher number of Indo-Aryans might make it more welcoming to your ethnicity over Montreal. In general I find Toronto culture to be too sanitzed and boring. Its like a cheap copy of the states with a total lack of "oomph".

I dont find dating in Montreal any different than any other city. I find the women here actually quite approachable and I don't find them snobby. But you either have game or you don't. Of course, if you're opener is "wow you're so beautiful", there's a good chance it will be followed by a solid eye-roll. That's a shit opener. Also Indians and chinese have it rough in Montreal. Not saying they don't have opportunities but the majority of local girls just don't view them as attractive or viril. Which probably explains why you would find it "very tough".

Weird, I'm asian and I have a ton of success with 8s+ (of course this rating is subjective)

I don't do stupid pickup artist crap or hit on women, I usually just talk to them normally and if we have good energy, I tell them that I think they're attractive.

Most attractive women are super good at picking up non verbal cues and your internal state and can easily filter out fake shit so I've always been super direct with everyone.

Dating in Montreal is similar to any other big city in north america.
if you are an attractive guy(in that case what are you doing here?)it's very easy. Girls will chase you and you have so many options WHEREVER YOU GO. in addition to real life dating apps are specially useful for attractive guys.

BUT if you are an average guy then you have to work hard -but that's not an excuse to give up, it's hard but it's doable-
You have to work on your social skills, sense of humor, career, etc. You have to invest time and money in dating and have realistic expectations. you have to be patient and be quick in accepting rejections and moving on

For the five years or so I lived there, I never courted any Indian women. All women I was around were Black (Jamaican, Trini, Grenadian, etc). The girls there were just more open in that they made the first move. That to me is the most important thing, I like the woman to initiate her interest in me. I remember I was at the Brass Rail (A Toronto stripclub) and two girls were there (civilian girls not strippers), one Indian and one Mulatto. The Mulatto girl started to chat with me, then it got hotter and she DFK me. We had a fling for a while. It was fun. The Indian girl picked up an older White man. I was younger and slim so it for sure helped a great deal. I moved back to Montreal and it was a whole different story. Women here are just stuck up, they were so traditional, never wanting to make the first move. I do not like chasing girls, I like to be the one that is chased.

In 1999, me and my colleagues from work went to Montreal for the long weekend. We hit some clubs, and my buddy asked me what is wrong with the girls here. He tried hitting on some but all rejected him. He was Latino. In Montreal it was important to know someone, the friend introduce you to other girls and they would let their guard down and not automatically reject you. Seems to be the Montreal culture, similar to Paris. But if we were in Toronto we always found at least one girl. I would go to Guvernment and The Docks every week and always had a girl. It is not just game, it is also the culture. Also language might have helped also as I am Anglophone. Either way, that was my experience. Each person has their own reality. I had a great time in Toronto, I moved back because Montreal had a much lower cost of living.

I have a young colleague who has quickly dated via the Hinge app. I even helped him take his profile picture lol
He is not a top model and was able to find a girlfriend rather fast.

No idea lol
Shrekked I didn't see his girlfriend's picture.
Throned, I just know she is studying medicine so she has sugar mommy potential :p
If so, it's unlikely he was Throned. If she is far better looking than he is, he was probably Shrekked.

So many women are not with good looking guys as it looks like hinge is not for feelings just superficial

Have any of you guys been Shrekked, Throned or Banksied?

Shrekking sounds like karma for vanity focused think their shit doesn’t stink people.

Throning sounds like Pretty woman movie where Julia Robert’s goes back to the store to stick it to the sale rep. They weren’t dating, but same concept. It’s perceived appearance.

Bankysing sounds like it could easily come up in friendship, and has probably exploded due to COVID.

I got throned this year, I think. It didn’t hurt because she was way more into me than I was her. When it happened, I was like, ok wtv. lol. I think it rattled her bad. I still see her at work…

Hilarious to me that journalists will write a trend piece giving names to practices that have existed for decades (e.g. Banksying, zip coding, monkey barring, Throne) like these phenomena are something novel to current dating.

This is true. The dating practices are not new, just the names for them. I think monkey barring as a dating term has been around for a while, longer than the others.
