Good, GG. You're getting it. Often, but not always. And, hence, not an absolute statement. (Maybe he can be educated.)

Oh, I get it, like how you often insert dumb comments after I post or how often you review SPs?

rumpleforeskiin I see General Gonad making statements that are generalizations or to be taken as such and issuing them as his opinion. No where does he state that these are facts.

They are akin to your own following statement

I know guys who make a fortune and some who don't.
as I then ask you, how do you know this as fact ? Have you seen any of these persons Income Tax returns after submission to the government ?

Neither are factual statements !

And, of course, there is a vast disparity of income right here on merb. I know guys who make a fortune and some who don't.

Don't forget about the guys that have blown their so-called 'fortune' in this hobby.

General Gonad & Rumpleforeskiin,

Must every thread devolve into a discussion of absolute statements and snipes at each other?

Rumpleforeskiin, once again, this is an internet discussion forum, where we typically assume IMO (In My Opinion) to all posted statements. GG used the word "Typical" to mitigate the absoluteness of his statement. If you question if it is an opinion or a fact, ask him, then let it go.

General Gonad, in a discussion of a price increase, is it on-topic to discuss those who have "lost their fortune", or the frequency of Rumpleforeskiin's reviews?

It's getting old.

I was in Montreal last week and I was surprised to see that most of the passangers in the airplane were either Canadians or Japanese. My experience on two flights (US to Canada and back) is limited, but it was unlike anything that I have noticed in past. In the past, most travellers were from USA. I think it is safe to assume that SP industry in Canada will see that the US customer demand has dropped.

While US dollars has fallen, the cost of living in Canada (excluding SPs) is still high compared that to USA. For example, I paid $65 from Airport to Day Inn in downtown and the usual $40 from Day's Inn back to airport. The rates are in Canadian dollars excluding the tips.

As far as agencies raising the cost is concerned, I think that these agencies are testing price sensitivity of demand. The SP that I saw on my trip mentioned that a lot of SPs are attracted to Ottawa and Toronto because they can make more in those cities. Anecdotally, it is likely that SPs are asking the agency owners to offer higher hourly rate (to match that of Ottawa) and owners have no choice but to increase rates. This might just be a temporary thing, and only time will tell if such rates will hold in the long run.

I was just in Montreal last month. The cab fare was fixed at $35 Canadian, Airport to Downtown, HDLM. Has that changed too?

Don't know. When this cab driver asked me for $65, I paid. I knew that it was too much, but I was in no mood for arguing. Besides I did not know what to say? When I returned and my cab fair was $40, I knew for sure that I was screwed.

You guys realise all the other agencies will soon up their prices and also the indy's.

If the market will support a higher rate it will rise, but not so sure. Even being someone hat has not been there since May 2006 I feel this way. I think America is/was a major factor in Canadian economy. No doubt currency exchange and fuel costs will affect things. I am sure it will. Good luck to establishments that raise rates during low season with tougher exchange rates for people from America.

Speaking of Japanese who seem to pay the highest price for everything...

Heard a funny "rule" for them in Thailand. It is the 2-3-4 rule. 2 inches, 3 minutes, 4,000 baht ($120 which is a huge rip off). I have read that many find it true. I am just relaying the message, not making this up.

On this bright Sunny day...

This is a thread of great significance because it provides a full range of resources from predatory income method pricing (P.I.M.P.) and persuasive advert, through to the concepts of giffen good (G.G.) and buffer stock scheme (B.S.s.), in other words, "stuff" of paramount importance anyone with a pulse and a stiffie should study diligently while the Chairman of Hobbyland is turning this market into a tizzy (or was that "into a sunny"?)

This same ridiculous debate happened when Asservissante went from $140 to $160...Big f'n deal, it's $20, suck it up and live with it.

I am not debating the merits of the rate increase but I am wondering why they didn't bother announcing it.

GG

P.S. Obviously there are some MAJOR cheapskates out there who convulse every time rates go up.

When you talk about American businessmen remember that many live in cities where these Montreal agency rates are ridiculously cheap!

Think New York City, Chicago, or LA....
