Well the way I look at it, is this statement "We’re not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers" pretty much equates to "We will not let the truth get in the way." which is what I believe Obama was indicating by his statement. I don't look at it as he claimed that the second statement was made by Newhouse. The article you posted is just someone spinning his speach in the direction you would like it to go. If you won't fact check your campaign, then how do you know that what is being presented is factual and not fiction?

Fact checking is an absolute necessity during a political campaign. Imagine how much it would have helped if someone had fact checked Palin before she gave interviews? Or if someone fact checked Michelle Bachmann? It's amazing how useful that can be.

Oh, it would be hard for me to vote for Obama seeing as how I'm a Canuck.

Tech, what i find amazing is that intelligent people would still vote for Romney knowing he doesn't represent any of their interests and goes against everything they believe in. He's also flip-flopped on every single issue known to man & will say and do anything in order to get elected. Even less so considering who he chose as his running mate, considering Ryan has proven to be an even bigger liar than Romney.

The exception would be if i'd be a millionaire. Then Romney might get my vote & I might contribute as much as i could to his campaign in order to escape paying higher taxes, and continue fucking the middle class and the majority of the American people.

It's really mindboggling! It's almost like the people in Jonestown would have already known that Jim Jones had ordered the kool-aid to be poisoned, and they would all have willingly got in line to drink their glass of kool-aid on their way to their death. Absolutely mindboggling!

I get it that many people cannot stand the fact a black man wound up becoming President, but why the hell would you want to vote for Romney?? Just because Obama happens to be black? Am i missing something here??

So funny. Intelligent people would not vote for Obama because he's black.

Liberal using the race card again.

People shouldn't vote for Obama because HE SUCKS AS PRESIDENT.

That's a good reason.

Yeah, you're missing something.

I must be missing that two-term President George W. Bush was such a GREAT PRESIDENT. Or that the US would be so much better off today had the oldest man & dumbest woman on the planet been elected in '08 instead of the Obama/Biden ticket.

Come on, DD. Take my advice. Take a break & go watch the NASCAR race. Or if you don't feel like sitting in front of the tv, grab a jug of moonshine & go take a ride in your pickup truck down a country road while listening to some Hank Williams Jr. tunes on your AM radio. ;)

Now i'm hearing that the Romney camp claims that Clint Eastwood wasn't the first choice as 'mystery guest speaker'. It was a female, but she refused to 'dumb it down'. I've yet to hear who she is, but will look into it.

More to come....

Bill Maher isn't witty because he's obnoxious. That's how I see it. Others who agree with his slanted views may see it differently. Maher has under a million viewers a week. His ratings are not that high.

Bill Maher obnoxious? One of his best friends is a Republican representative (Georgia) Jack Kingston and they've been friends for years (he was Maher's guest last week and never treated him with disrespect). I actually watch Maher's show and it is indeed very funny, and he always has a republican presence to comment on the previous days' happenings- some weeks he has 1 Dem and 2 Reps., other weeks 2 Dems and 1 Rep.

I actually find his show very informative and funny. One of the major reasons why I've had HBO Canada and the Movie Network package for years now.

By the way, Daydreamer, you DO know Maher's ratings may not be as high as, say American Idol, is because you might be comparing the ratings for a show which is on most every american's basic cable, while Maher's show is on HBO which, as far as I know, one has to pay for in the US? Game of Thrones which is a HU-UUUGE hit for HBO, its season finale got 4.2 million people which is considered unprecedented for a cable show.
By the way, Maher's been getting OVER 1 million for each of his episodes this season.
If you want to talk about unfunny comedians: I used to love Dennis Miller years ago on Saturday Night Live. I don't know what's happened to him in the last few years, as he's embraced the conservative way of thinking. That in itself is ok, but I've watched his last 4 HBO specials where he performs to the republican faithful only, and man oh man, these specials were more painful experiences together than the 2 root canals I once had put together. What the hell happened to the man?

Believe it or not, but Bill Maher & Ann Coulter are also very good friends. Rumours have been going around for years that they once were lovers (perish the thought!). Coulter has denied it, but Maher has been evasive about it. They toured the continent together two years ago and their show (debate format) was a rousing success!

You find Maher funny because you buy the liberal mentality hook line and sinker.

Dennis Miller is as funny as a Conservative, as he was in SNL. I listen to him. Nothing happened to him. He has seen the light.

You're back from your drive already? How come? Go check out the NASCAR race....only 80 laps left to go! :D

A lot of people must find Bill Maher funny. He's become a multi-millionaire because of his comedy brilliance. He denies being a liberal, but says he simply cannot see himself siding with a bunch of lunatics.

The term liberal is a strange one. In the states, the right-wingers try to make it a big issue & attempt to make it embarrassing to be a liberal. In Canada, it's the total opposite. People are proud to be dubbed as being liberals, and someone claiming to be a right-wing conservative is looked upon with caution.

Where I belong.
Please explain this to me. If person A works and has a car repair business and makes $100,000 and is asked to pay $40,000 a year in taxes and the government gives them a tax break of $5,000 is this person taking away from the poor? The person making the $100,000 produced $100,000 in profit. It's not anybody's money except the person producing it.

So how is this person taking money away from a poor person?.
Well, first off, a person making 100,000 isn't rich. No, the problem is when a person makes $10,000,000 per year and only pays $1,350,000 while his secretary makes $30,000 per year and pays $3,000. The millionaire contributes to Social Security on 1% of his income, while his secretary contributes on 100% of hers.

Pay fair share? Many people who have businesses, such as yourself, are paying 40 to 50 or more percent of their income in Federal, State and local taxes. How much is a person's fair share?
Exactly. Thanks for the example. I pay my fair share, just as you note. I am one of the 99%, though I make considerably more than most. Mitt Romney pays considerably less than I do.

And gee, George Bush and the Iraq war is dragged into every liberal's argument. Is that a cannon of the Liberal's handbook? It has nothing to do with this discussion.
Well, considering that he's the one who got us into this mess, how can you possibly leave him out?

Mitt Romney did not outsource jobs to China or Mexico.
In one word, bullfuckingshit.

You all go ape shit over Paul Ryan's misstatement over how fast he ran a marathon.
That wasn't a misstatement; it was a lie, like the majority of his speech the other night, the one which failed to pull the wool over a lot of eyes.

Gotta love President Obama

Obama: No offense taken at Eastwood speech

(CNN) – President Barack Obama said in an interview published Sunday he took no offense at Clint Eastwood's prime-time address at the Republican National Convention, in which the legendary actor and director posed questions to an empty chair, which he said represented the Democratic incumbent.

"One thing about being president or running for president - if you're easily offended, you should probably choose another profession," Obama told USA Today.

Eastwood's speech came the same night Mitt Romney accepted the Republican presidential nomination in Tampa, Florida. The sprawling, off-the-cuff address drew criticism from some, who said Eastwood's unorthodox remarks overshadowed Romney. The Republican nominee's advisers wrote off the criticism, saying the crowd found Eastwood's remarks funny.

"He's a great messenger. The guy is an American treasure," Romney senior strategist Stuart Stevens said.

Obama agreed with that sentiment in the USA Today interview, calling Eastwood "a great actor, and an even better director."

"I think the last few movies that he's made have been terrific," the president added.

That appreciation, however, doesn't mean Democrats will try to mimic Eastwood's performance at their own confab, slated to begin in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Tuesday.

"I think we'll be playing this pretty straight," Obama said.

That wasn't a mistatement, it was an outright lie and not a small one either.
Damn you again, Techman. I made the same exact post before I read yours. No, not a small one, nor nearly his only one. The man has skill.

''I find Maher funny because I buy the liberal mentality blah blah blah'' Really? Come ON!!! No I find him funny because he actually USES what makes comedy work, which is parody, irony, and absurdity. Dennis Miller on the other hand, is LAZY and just goes for the easy joke with no comedy crafting whatsoever. Same as Jay Leno.
He is like Chris Rock who used to be a god to me years ago for jokes about the black experience and race relations. But after too much success, like Miller, has become a shadow of his former self.

I'll have you know, there are some comedians with a decided right-wing bent that I enjoy, but people enjoy lazy half-assed insulting humour so that is why Miller has some followers now.

Here's a comedian you should listen to: Bill Hicks! You probably won't like him but the man was brilliant. Maher reminds me a lot of him, RIP.

BTW, how can you even say Maher is unfunny when you admit only watching one show segment with him in your entire lifetime? The first Tonight Show with George Carlin I saw years ago did not set my world on fire, but I tried him out again and learned to love him.

I've heard so much about Bill Maher's most recent tv show that i'm going to go and watch it once the NASCAR race is over. PVR'd it today when they re-showed it.

Did anyone see him on Jay Leno last week? Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!! The man is not only one of the most informed & knowledgeable people i know, but he's also a genius. I MUST see him live on stage one of these days. Didn't he perform at the Just for Laughs festival last year?

No offense?? No offense?? No shit he took no offense. Eastwood's meltdown was the best thing that's happened to Obama's re-election bid since Mitt the Twit selected Lyin' Ryan as his running mate.

Do you read any actual news sources or do you get all of your "information" from right wing propaganda houses. You should be careful what you quote; you're exposing yourself.

Same programmed response, over and over. Attack the person, the source, person and source if you don't agree.

Where should I find my information?

The Washington Compost?
The New York Slimes?
MSLSD?
