I want to point out English is not everyone’s first language, certainly not mine. Many get by quite well but it’s will never be mastered as if it was their first language. We can be a bit more accommodating to the language nuances.
for ex: in Mandarin, 瘦 is translated as «
skinny ». But it’s actually means slim, as small frame, healthy looking, does not have excessive fat, visible toning.
The word « skinny » was what I learned in school back in China. After arriving in Canada, someone corrected me the word « slim » is the accurate word.
I’m sure there are many exemples like this in every language
