i listed weeds as on of my current faves. fuck, it's falling apart. the comedy aspect has been lost, and the main storyline is rapidly losing all compelling reasons to remain interested. what a bummer.

true blood seems to be losing it's originality as well. now that we know all of the species, what's going to keep it interesting?

entourage's hip factor has been up and down. a spineless yes man character is watchable if he's funny & has personality, like johnny drama, but eric is pathetic and the weakest part of the cast. also, it feels like the writers are 'phoning in' ari's lines.

rome, deadwood & the wire are tough acts to follow...

Haven't hooked on weeds and true blood. But entourage has been one wild ride, although until this year, the idea of 4 free spending guys living together, became old in a hurry.

Eric is indeed the least likeable character. They're trying real hard to find a romantic interest for him. Unfortunately, all the girls they hook him up with look like children. Mind you, he's no towering inferno either. I don't have a rooting interest for Eric's character, he's just one of these lame fill-ins. They say he was a pizza shop manager and now he's turned into a super agent and into an "agency" just cause he's best friends with Vinny Chase. I guess stuff like that happens in real life, and like anywere else, it's first and foremost about who you know.

Perhaps Ari's act is becoming a little tiring as well, but he's still the beneficiary of some of the best-written lines on television. Hollywood insiders watch the show as they say it mirrors how the entertainment business is run and how its characters interact. I imagine the show's writers have had a lot of material to draw from and there doesn't seem to be a shortage although I was a little surprised to see the show's executive producer, Mark Wahlberg, make a cameo appearance. Saw the show and was turned off, it looked like a major reach by the writers. Unfortunately, shit happens but overall, the show still has wings. The idea of splitting up the 4-some and having girlfriends get between them, was long overdue. Whether it helps pick up the pace, is another matter.

And how could I forget Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry David has one great promo lined up by involving the cast of Seinfeld this season. Should be prime.

Supernatural is the only serie i follow religiously in english every year because i can't wait for the french version. Well at first it was that, now i couldn't watch it in french anyway cause im so use to the original voices, especially Jensen Ackles, even if im use to his french voice in Dark Angel or Smallville, for Dean it would be weird...

But i may give a look to True Blood since i like the vampire stuff, a shame Moonlight ended so quick....

mad men: still brilliant. i think it's the best show on tv. portrays nyc in the early 60's perfectly. the writing is incredibly subtle & nuanced, and the cast delivers!

You're showing your age jmb. I didn't realize you were around NYC in the early 60's. :p

Doc's favorite shows on tv

Currently: Entourage. However, i agree with Johnmbot. Ari is annoying (and an a-hole) and the guys are boring, including Johnny Drama with his constant whining. His dumb jerk act is starting to get on my nerves. 'E' has to be one of the most boring characters in all of television, with Vince not far behind. At least Turtle & Earl are somewhat interesting. Most of the women on the show are bitches, psychos, sluts or dumb-dumbs. Even Jamie-Lyn Sigler is starting to act psychotic. This isn't the same show i used to love watching during its first 2-3 seasons. What happened to the tits n' asses? There's now more to be seen on Survivor!
Soon: Californication.
Next year: 24 & Lost.

Reality tv: Survivor, DWTS, Amazing Race, Celebrity Apprentice. Maybe 'The Bachelor' if the girls are hot.

The Job

There are very few TV programs I watch these days. They do not make programs like NYPD blues anymore. I suspect that they have all went away and later the trend will go back to the cop shows eventualy. The only program that I watch regularly now is Shark Tank, just to see Kevin O'Leary be cruel to people that want to be just like him and have no money.

the job Denis Leary Good current cop show

I agree with Doc, Dexter has won me back after a so-so 3rd season (but then they got me as soon as I heard John Lithgow was back playing a psycho again). And through DVD season sets, I've been watching PUSHING DAISYES with its amazing set design and high-speed hilarious dialogue (love this show, too bad it's already cancelled).

For some reason I've never been able to get into Dexter. A lot of people seem to love it though and maybe I should give it another chance.

One of my favourite shows right now is The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulis. He always has amazing guests and they are incredibly candid when compared to American talk shows. It was great to see Valerie Bertinelli last week and find out that she is about to turn 50 but still looks like she's in her 20's! You can catch up on past episodes and see expanded versions of interviews on the website here: http://www.cbc.ca/thehour/

When it comes to scripted shows, my favorite is still Californication. Kathleen Turner is hilarious this season playing Runkle's oversexed new boss and having Rick Springfield playing himself is just too funny. This is my only 'can't miss' show. If you aren't familiar with it, take a look at it here: http://www.sho.com/site/californication/home.do

I also love Primeval, a British sci-fi show about time portals. It looks like it will take a while before it comes back with a new series but the first three seasons can be found on torrent and I think it's worth a watch. http://www.itv.com/drama/cult/primeval/

And for Dancing With The Stars fans, Joanna Krupa's Playboy spread has hit the net. You can find it here: http://thesuperficial.com/2009/11/bfm_enlarged/enlarged-joanna_krupa_in_playboy.php

Started watching Breaking Bad after reading they cleaned up at the Emmy Awards for two years straight. Good show but would be better if it wasn't on AMC where they are too puritanical regarding language.

Speaking of AMC, the Prisoner premieres on it tonight @ 8:00 PM. The original British series was way ahead of it's time so it will be interesting to see how the remake stacks up.

One show I got into thanks to this thread is Curb Your Enthusiasm. Really funny especially if you were a Seinfeld fan. Liked it so much I ordered seasons 1-6 on DVD last week. :p

I totally agree. 'The Hour' might actually be one of the greatest talk shows of all time. It's really unfortunate that most of our american friends are probably unable to watch this fantastic talk show. Dare i say it? George Strombolopoulos is miles ahead of Larry King when it comes to candidly interviewing people. I sat next to him (George S.) last year at a baseball game & he's also very nice in person.

As for 'Californication', it's also can't-miss tv for me. Season after season. There are some parts that i do dislike about it, though. I can't stand the daughter & Runkel's ex-wife. Both absolutely get on my nerves, for whatever reason. Kathleen Turner, who used to be a total babe, believe it or not, is hillarious on the show!

As for DWTS, it's still one of my favorite tv shows. I was extermely disappointed to see Natalie Coughlin leave the show so early. She was one of its best dancers, miles ahead of Melissa Joan Hart, Michael Irvin & Kelly Osborne. As for Joanna Krupa, i've become a fan of hers & Derek's since last week's future passo doble.....absolutely genial!
