I recently watched "The Lowdown" on Hulu, which stars Ethan Hawke and Kyle MacLachlan. I enjoyed it. Hawke's character is based on a real life writer/"Truthstorian" in Tulsa, Oklahoma who specialized in expose reporting. It's a little bit slow in developing over the first few episodes, but gets more interesting as it goes along. I would give it a B+.

I am now watching the recently released season 3 of Dark Winds on Netflix. It's equally as good as the prior seasons but is a bit darker and has significant "horror" film elements, particularly climaxing in episode 6. The season explores more deeply the Native American cultural connection to monsters and the supernatural, but this becomes somewhat of a metaphor for the monsters that exist within some of us.

On a sad note, legendary actor Robert Redford, who recently passed away and was involved in the production of the series, had his very last acting credit in episode 1. He is a prisoner in lockup at the NTP and is playing chess with another prisoner when Leaphorn annoyingly tells Redford's opponent what his next move should be. Redford looks very old, but healthy in the scene.

Landman written by Taylor Sheridan,
Good cast and funny dialogues.

I absolutely love this show!!!

It really puts into perspective just how much the green energy movement is more of a scam than a solution. The way it highlights the contradictions and hidden agendas behind it all is eye-opening. It’s crazy how things that are marketed as “saving the planet” are often just another way to profit off of people’s good intentions.

We’d be nowhere without “dirty energy”.

Lol....whaaaaaa? Sounds like conspiracy theories to me...:D

I've heard good things about this show. The fact that the show is from Taylor Sheridan and Billy Bob is supposedly in it has my interest piqued.

When my TV queue clears up, will (eventually) get around to seeing it.

Landman is excellent, but the only thing I have a hard time getting past is the relationship between Billy Bod and his wife. That is difficult to look past and ignore for me.

That woman is incredibly hot & sexy, and well .. Billy Bob.... not so much. That couple is unrealistic to say the least.
I totally agree!!! She’s fkn psychotic AND sexy as hell. Not realistic whatsoever / super toxic hahaha.

Other than that the show is one of the best currently playing
Yes!! Been a while a good show aired.

Landman is fun, but we have to remember that it's a tv ahow and not the real world. Billy Bob's viral monologue is full of statements that are patently false. We need to remember that fictional programs for tv are for entertainment, not information or education.

I'm kind of surprised that people always forget Billy Bob and Angelina too. They bragged about their weirdness and their kinky sex together, they wore those matching blood amulets around their necks. They seemed perfectly suited as greaky weirdos together. Brad Pitt seemed utterly bland in comparison. lol

That Murderbot show looks like it could be a lot lf fun. Will have to give it a watch.

Yeah the number of people who repost his little diatribe about wind farms on fb (and inadvertently doing the misinformation grunt work for multinational oil companies) is unsettling.

Sure, it’s not real life, but these shows often draw on real world themes or ideologies which can spark important conversations (preferably not on merb tho - LOL).

Just because something is fictional doesn’t mean it’s exempt from being thought-provoking or reflecting real world issues. If people can’t recognize the social or political implications of what they see on screen / differentiate it from a script that’s focused on a specific theme, then the real issue might be with the person watching hahaha. Not every show gets every detail perfectly realistic down to a T (crime shows, medical dramas, and so on).

It’s also unsettling how blindly people are pushing this whole green / net-zero agenda without considering the practical consequences. It’s almost as if people forget that the push for “green” energy is driven by corporations / governments with their own interests (many of which are just as profit-driven as the oil companies they claim to oppose).
➡️A great example of this is Brookfield. The millions invested in pipelines is staggering, all while pushing for net zero. LMAO.

But hey! It’s just screenplay, “fun” and not happening at all in the real world…

Have a great weekend ❤️

TV is great for inspiration and provoking areas of thought. It is very weak for providing factual information, and Landman is no exception. As long as people recognize that scripted tv isn't real and they do their own research from credible sources then sure, it's a good thing to raise awareness. Unfortunately, too many people equate things they see on tv with real life. Enjoy the stories. Research the facts.

I find it difficult to watch Billy Bob Thorton ever since his appearence on the CBC radio show Q.

He was there to promote his band for which he's the drummer. The only reason they were getting any attention is because of BBT being in the band, yet BBT demanded prior to the show that they don't talk about his acting career AT ALL. The host mentioned his acting career in the intro. BBT didn't like that so he started answering all the questions with nonsense and eventually insulting the host. When it came time for the band to perform, BBT didn't join them, claiming he didn't bring his drum-kit. After that trainwreck of an interview he then went on to shit-talk CBC, Q and the host at his concerts. I believe they ended their tour early due to the backlash (though they claimed an illness). He was actually right about the host though. Jian Gomeshi is a piece of garbage IRL. He was fine in the interview though.

After that it's hard not to see him as an entitled, whiny bitch. He is a good actor, but not good enough to erase that appearence from my mind.

Anyways, I'm watching Lucifer. It's pretty good. It's got a bit of a vibe similar to one of my favorite shows, The Mentalist. Not as good, but it's alright.

I really enjoyed Death by Lightning on Netflix.
It's about US President James Garfield, the "reluctant President", and his assassin, a cuckoo by the name of Charles Guiteau. Both were attorneys, although Guiteau something of a failed attorney (mostly did collection work). The actors are Michael Shannon as Garfield and a young English actor named Matthew MacFayden as Guiteau. Both are very good. Guiteau's career as an attorney is not depicted in the miniseries- mostly the aftermath of it- his career as a political wannabe.

It's a limited 4 episode miniseries.

The process by which Garfield was nominated for Republican candidate in 1881 over Ulysses Grant and others, as depicted in the movie, is fascinating. Garfield did not want to be President nor did he seek the Presidency prior to the convention. He attended the convention to nominate Senator Sherman his home State of Ohio, but gave such a rousing speech in doing so, invoking the legacy of Abe Lincoln, that the Republicans decided to nominate him rather than Senator or ex President Grant. Senator Sherman accuses Garfield of a backstab, saying nobody could give such a speech unless he wanted the nomination for himself. And you as viewer are not sure who is right: the betrayed Sherman, or the supposedly reluctant Garfield. I think they left it gray like that as there are questions among historians as to how "reluctant" a President Garfield actually was.

Unfortunately, we never got to find out how good a President he was because he was shot by Guiteau 4 months after taking office, and then died 2 months after being shot. As played by Shannon, Garfield is a decent, family oriented man, well educated and an excellent orator, although somewhat wary of other politicians, notably Senator Roscoe Conkling from New York, with whom he clashes throughout his brief Presidency.

The miniseries draws its name from a quote attributed to Garfield, whose scolding retort to his chief of staff's recommendation that he bolster his security staff and protocol when meeting with public constituents was as follows:

"Nonsense! Assassination can no more be guarded against than death by lightning!"

Garfield's greatest achievement and contribution as President was civil service reform, which Congress later enacted after his death in 1883. The miniseries depicts the before and after of what Presidents had to deal with in terms of relentless, unqualified office seekers. Of whom, ironically Guiteau was ironically one of the most relentless, aggressive, unfit and unqualified.

I give it an A-.

I was prepared to hate it it but i actually enjoyed Witcher S4. Yes Geralt feel more like a secondary character in his own show (and Liam Hemsworth is no Henry Cavill) but i had fun with the season and man i want S5 yesterday...lol. Yen and Ciri evolved great and heck Liam did a decent job. He's no Cavill but he was not bad at all.

Disclaimer : never read the book or played the game so im one of those "filthy casual viewers".

I do plan on at least playing the 2nd and 3rd game tough.
