I never really got into this series. I watched the three movies way back in the day when I was a kid. So I'm somewhat familiar with all the characters (even though I barely remember all the events, etc).

But when I watched the first episode, it seemed more like a comedy(!) than how the movies were. Dunno...found it a bit weird.

There is indeed Comedie but there is Drama, some pretty bad ass fights too. Also the show evolved a lot since Season 1 wich were shorter episodes.

Pretty cool to see another Trekkie/Trekker on this board. Shatner has nothing to do with this show though. It's the actor for Pike (Anson Mount) that does the voiceover for the intro of the series (credits have already been released online). In the link you provided above, I think they were talking about the original series.

Looking forward to this. So far, the "new" series that have come out lately have been a bit lackluster (Discovery, Picard). We'll see with this one.
Charmer and EB -

I don't know if you are aware of this, but there is a "shrine" to the original Star Trek series located in the town of Ticonderoga on Lake Champlain in the Adirondacks region of New York State (about 2 hours south of Montreal). A museum that has reconstructed the sets from the original series - the Bridge, Sickbay, the Engine room etc. They also have special events(like mini conventions). In November, they are having a special event with Shatner where you can walk the sets with the Captain, have an intimate conversation on the Bridge with the Captain, and even dinner that evening with the Captain. EB if you ever plan that weekend getaway with your buddies to Montreal, this could be a side event :) . I have never been, but it looks cool. Here's a link :

(Oh and yes New World is good, but Discovery looks like a bunch of angsty teens who are playing at being adult.)

Dude, i could talk about Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad for days!

Btw, my no.1 favorite character on BCS was Lalo. So charismatic!

Breaking Bad caused a huge paradigm shift in how TV was perceived in Hollywood.

Previously TV was always seen as the dumping ground, compared to movies. The talent and money was all in movies. Very few actors in TV ever crossed over successfully to movies.

Anthony Hopkins was so impressed by Breaking Bad that he wrote a personal letter (@ midnight just after binging the seasons) to Bryan Cranston:

I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant!

Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen - ever.

I know there is so much smoke blowing and sickening bullshit in this business, and I've sort of lost belief in anything really.

But this work of yours is spectacular — absolutely stunning. What is extraordinary, is the sheer power of everyone in the entire production. What was it? Five or six years in the making? How the producers (yourself being one of them), the writers, directors, cinematographers.... every department — casting etc. managed to keep the discipline and control from beginning to the end is (that over used word) awesome.

From what started as a black comedy, descended into a labyrinth of blood, destruction and hell. It was like a great Jacobean, Shakespearian or Greek Tragedy.

If you ever get a chance to - would you pass on my admiration to everyone — Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Aaron Paul, Betsy Brandt, R.J. Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Steven Michael Quezada — everyone — everyone gave master classes of performance ... The list is endless.

Thank you. That kind of work/artistry is rare, and when, once in a while, it occurs, as in this epic work, it restores confidence.

You and all the cast are the best actors I've ever seen.

Fantasy/medieval fans must be in paradise right now...

New Game of Thrones series ("House of the Dragon") is great! My expectations were low going in (mainly because of a lackluster last season of the main series), but was totally into it midway through the episode. Amazing acting, direction, production values, etc. It's at least a 8.5/10 for me.

And the new Lord of the Rings series just started today (i.e. ""The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power"). Not quite on the same level as HOTD (characters/actors aren't as compelling, etc.), but still pretty decent. Was a good move filming the show in New Zealand (like the movies). It would've been really weird if they didn't, plus the scenery looks gorgeous. I'm hoping it gets better as the series goes on. This is a 8/10 for me so far.

Im not very huge on LOTR movies and never watched "The Hobbit Trilogy" but i may watch it anyway. Im due to order something from Amazon soon and will probably get Prime at the same time (as its not much more than actually paying the delivery lol).

Otherwise i been really enjoying House of the Dragon. It really feel much more like early GOT so far (more politics and schemes) but there is some huge time gap between episodes, 6 months between 1 and 2 and i heard they even have a different cast of actors after a certain number of episodes because the characters have aged a lot so im not too sure about this, im a bit nervous. But we will see.

I think a huge shake-up is coming mid-way into the season.

Don't get overly attached to any characters: this is Game of Thrones after all, lol :D

I know, but its also supose to be a one and done i think, not an ongoing series. This is why they focuss a lot on one family and one place.

They already renewed it for season 2, which isn't surprising given how good the ratings were.

Maybe it won't go as long as the original series, but there'll be two seasons at least.

I think it'll probably branch out more once the time jump happens.

I just watched The Chestnut Man on Netflix. Very good murder mystery which interweaves a cold case on a missing girl with a serial killer of women who are "bad mothers." This Danish production uses a similar dynamic to the Tunnel: pairing a male detective who is reassigned from Interpol (for reasons that are never made clear), and paired with a female detective working the homicide division in Copenhagen. The pair are assigned to investigate the serial killings and slowly develop a good working chemistry although it is not quite the same chemistry that develops between the older British male detective paired with the young female French detective in the Tunnel. Although I thoroughly enjoyed both of these Europroductions (which I am generally not a fan of), the one thing the Chestnut Man has over The Tunnel is an extremely creepy ambience. I love movies and shows that perfect an atmosphere of creepiness and this show does do that magnificently.

The Chestnut Man is just 6 episodes and really a miniseries, so it can be binged in 2 or 3 nights, unlike The Tunnel, which is 3 seasons.

Ultraman on Netflix.

Industry on HBO.

Also just saw the first episodes of Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones prequel. Both shows are good but I was more engaged in Lord of the Rings. I will probably get into Game of Thrones down the road like its predecessor.
