The most recent mock draft on NHL.com has Habs hanging on to #1 and picking Wright, Slafkovsky going #2 to the Devils and Cooley slipping to Arizona at #3:
It is believed none of these guys are generational talents but that the #1 pick in 2023, Connor Bedard, though somewhat smallish at 5'9", is a generational talent like McDavid or Matthews. Could the Habs get #1 picks in 2 straight drafts? It's possible. We have to ask how much better Wright will make the team. Habs could possibly be in draft lottery again.

If you guys are curious about Conor Bedard, who is a lock to be the overall #1 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, here he is, along with scouting reports. This is the guy who is worth the tanking all the non playoff teams will be doing to get him. Bedard has what looks like a snapshot rather than a slapshot (see video in embedded article). Scouts like it.

Habs will still have a very good chance to pick him ...lolll
They just have to get in the lottery to have a chance, but next year have not lottery teams will be viciously tanking to have the chance to take him, like the Maple Leafs did when they had an all out tank and got Matthews. History teaches that tanking is well-rewarded, and those rewards are on the table again.

ESPN draft expert Greg Wyshynski is reporting that Montreal is grappling with selecting either Wright or Slavskovsky with the first pick and don't be shocked if the pick is Slavskovsky. It all comes down to how much support Slavskovsky will have in the Habs' "war room."

Wyshnyksi is also reporting that NHL GMs are deeply concerned about travel and military restrictions on young Russian players. Teams do not want to draft a young Russian, only to see him then drafted into the military and killed in Ukraine. That's not what they want! However the possibility of travel and military restrictions could cause some Russians to either fall in the draft or not get picked at all.

Tomorrow night things will get rolling right in Montreal!!!!

at this point, when there iz no franchise player available its like a lotery
Jupiter, I am being told that the NJ Devils desperately want the Slovakian kid, Stafkovsky, and are afraid Montreal will take him. NJ doesn't need a center and doesn't want Wright. I am advised NJ management has called Hughes and requested assurances that he will draft Wright and, absent such assurances, they have requested a trade whereby NJ and Montreal swap picks, with Montreal getting a low round draft pick, so that NJ can draft the Slovak kid #1.

It's been a while since i got excited like this for a draft. We draft first, and it's in our building. What's not to love. Next year would be better with Connor Bedard, there is no clear cut this year, but i guess that's what makes things exciting.

Slafkovsky is intriguing, but he got in the race late and could be a flash in the pan. He's big, a bit cocky, but to me could be a hit or a bust. Wright is more of a safe bet. Declared exceptional player at 15, seems more mature, plays center, i see less risk with him.

Personally i'm more Team Wright, but i'm sure i would enjoy both if they succeed. We'll see if Hugues and Gorton are willing to gamble.
