Garbage-time goals i said. Not garbage goals. Caulfield scores most of his goals when they no longer matter. But like i said previously: what’s the use of scoring a lot of goals when you give up as many & more when you’re on the ice. Anyways i’m not a big fan of players who look like munchkins. Large heads on a very small body. Beware, beware, beware!

Jake Allen’s season hasn’t gone off to a very good start so far. But people who’ve been critical of his play don’t realize that he isn’t really a legit #1 goaltender. He’s more of a backup & past seasons have shown that he isn’t comfortable playing too many games. The backup role always suited him well. It wouldn’t surprise me if he’d rather play a supporting role to Montembault or any other goalie & play with less pressure on his shoulders. A few years ago his role playing back up to Carey Price fitted him perfectly.

Allen a littéralement volé ce match, avec l'aide de Savard et Guhle mais faut aussi souligner la performance de Slafkowsky, sûrement son meilleur match dans la LNH.
Faut reconnaître qu"il a du pif ST-LOUIS.....contre toute attente il a fait appel à ALLEN qui en a goalé toute une......BRAVO...et que dire again de GOLD CAUFIELD....oui vaut son pesant d'or.....et des défenseurs qui bloquent des tirs à répétition....oui une équipe qui

Again, this goal on a pass from Suzuki to Caulfield which is looking a lot like their other goals - Caulfield seems to locate a spot on the ice and Suzuki seems to know where he is and puts a laser pass on his stick blade- sort of like the batting practice pitch right on the barrel of the bat:

It makes you wonder where the habs would be without the munchkin. He & Monahan seem like they’re the only guys on the team that can score on a regular basis. I think he could score 40 goals one day if he’s able to stay healthy & show he can play well under pressure.
Speaking of Monahan. I expect that the habs will try to trade him for a first round pick but i think they may be making a mistake if he remains healthy & if they can re-sign him. He may be better than any first round pick they’d be able to get for him plus je’s still a reasonably young player. One of these days the team will put more emphasis on winning & they’ll need players like Monahan.
Monahan has been a huge surprise. Though he was a 6th overall draft pick in 2013, the last 2 years he produced a meager 51 points in 115 games. I would still trade him because the goal is not to make the playoffs, but to build for the future with draft picks and with a possible shot at Conor Bedard next year.
Monahan’s production decreased because he was playing injured over the past two seasons. Various injuries including to his hips which is why he finally underwent surgery to both hips during the offseason which caused him to miss a good part of this season’s training camp. This season has been the first time he’s been healthy in at least two years or more.
After watching the habs play several times this season there is no chance they’ll be in a position to draft Bedard or that American kid Fantilli whom several scouts would draft ahead of Bedard. The habs habe too good of a team to finish near the basement. Last year’s poor play was likely an aberration. I doubt the habs will make the playoffs since the Eastern Conference is too strong but i expect them to finish somewhere between the 20th & the 25th overall position. What the habs could do is package several first round picks in order to improve their drafting position (say 3-5) but i doubt the teams in the first two positions would go for it. This happens a lot in the NFL & NBA but very rarely in the NHL.
The players they’d currently like to get rid of won’t get them as much as they’d hope for & a player like Gallagher has an untradeable contract. A team willing to take on such a bad contract would not only need the cap space to accomodate it but the habs would need to cover a good chunk of the money owed to him. But more importantly the price the habs would need to pay likely in the form of first round draft picks & possibly top prospects would be a no-no from the habs perspective.
If the habs were dead serious about having a realistic chance at drafting Bedard they would have kept Dom Ducharme instead of firing him in the middle of last season.
Great! Habs 2020 playoffs players reunion! Just sad Toffoli has been traded!
